Just some thoughts here on the game before the Rangers release the official recap. Here are some links:

Pension Plan Puppets

Tonight was a big game in my opinion. The Leafs were win-less and looking for blood and the Rangers were able to hold them off for two periods and then swarm in the third to put things out of reach.

The first period was all Rangers as they came through with two goals; a 5 on 3 by Ryan Callahan and an absolute beauty from Wade Redden. The Rangers controlled the play, they owned the neutral zone, and Lundqvist was his normal self. They came a Henrik Lundqvist trip away from keeping the Leafs off the board.

The second period started off well with a goal from Dan Girardi but the Rangers quickly found themselves on their heels. The Maple Leafs were able to press the issue, force the Rangers back and eventually Jason Blake scored a goal that Lundqvist probably wish he had back.

And then came the third period where the Rangers really put it out of reach. There were four goals scored in the third by the Rangers. Two by Sean Avery, one by Marian Gaborik and one more by Girardi. The Rangers were relentless they were fierce and they were gritty. Make no mistake the Leafs might be a bad team but that does not mean they weren't dangerous. This is a game the old Rangers would have found a way to lose, so it's nice to see them win.

The first line continues to impress: Brandon Dubinsky has two assists, Gaborik had a goal and an assist, and Vinnie Prospal had two assists. Other impressive Rangers were Avery with two goals and an assist, Artem Anisimov with two assists and Wade Redden with a goal and an assist. Jim will post up the official Ranger game recap when he gets it.

Anyway I'll make the call on this.

Now guys when you do your full official game wrapup with your player of the game, I hope to see Redden because the fact that he could even do 1 thing right is more progress than any other player, let alone 3 pts

Rangers under Torts

What a difference with Tortorella. Renney was terrible, no abiltiy to fire up a team. Tortorella will bring the Rangers a dynasty, not just one but maybe 4 Cups.

by stevich on Oct 12, 2009 10:33 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i dont think renney was terrible. remember before he came we were terrible, and he led us to the playoffs 4 years ina row. i just think we needed a change. the players we had werent responding, so we needed a coaching change.

I like the gamebreaker Gaborik. He’s a 60 goal scorer, a true superstar which the Rangers have always lacked. Gaborik, Kotalik, Prospal, Anisimov, Dubinsky, Callahan, Drury and Girardi ar elite players and Lundy and Valiquette are at the top of their game.

by stevich on Oct 12, 2009 10:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

haha..

well

besides from gaborik, were getting scoring from everywhere in the lineup.

gaborik prospal dubinsky drury callahan avery anisimov kotalik girardi redden mdz

higgins and lisin, along with gilroy will pick it up too. and staal is so solid defensively. and if the 4th line and rozi jsut do their job will be a great team.

Higgins

I thought he looked like he was ready to break out against Caps and Ducks, but then he he looked kind of lost again to me tonight. He just doesn’t look like he’s got any groove going and he’s not been as gritty as he’s known to be. I like him, but he doesn’t look comfortable on that line. Maybe get him with Anisimov and Avery and put Kotalik with his buddy Drury….?

by glen2813 on Oct 12, 2009 10:43 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

well. kotalik is a RW and higgins is a LW. im sure they could make it work, but that scenario would put lisin on the 4th, which torts doesnt want to do.

id keep him where he is for now. give him time. plus i like the line combinations so far

just a few points

redden looked like a new man tonight. hopefully he keeps it up
gabby draws so much attention its insane. his skills are unreal
our D players are learning when to pinch and when not to. alot less oddman rushes.
when leafs pulled game to 1 goal, didnt start to tremble like years passed

this jet game is turning out to be a good one

Fabulous game all around.

The Rangers were dominating tonight & yes give the Leafs some credit, they did fight back, but once the 3rd period started it was all over. Avery, Gaborik, Girardi, Redden and Callahan (actually Cally’s goal was an own goal by the Leafs) are playing well and Anisimov is really playing strong.

If you were to pick a Ranger rookie right now to lead the Calder between Anisimov, Del Zotto & Gilroy, I think you have to give it to Michael Del Zotto. Because right now he is running the rink his way. He’s looking good defensivly & he is amazing with his offense.

Lundqvist is on his game again and making fabulous saves.
The only thing I am a bit angry on the Leafs is that they were running at Lundqvist on frustration. But once again a fabulous performence against the Leafs.

Time to re-group and be ready for a scary LA Kings side that has some good talent and they are on a mission.
