Rangers News: A few late day odds and ends from Blue Notes
Steve Zipay has a few late items on today's practice: (click link for full story)
Lots of skating, stickhandling and positioning drills in practice. Head coach John Tortorella took aside Dan Girardi and Michael Del Zotto to correct defensive errors… Henrik Lundqvist practiced, saying his right foot was taped tighter, but still stiff from being jammed into the post in a collision. I think he’ll play Monday night against Phoenix at home.
From John Tortorella:
"One of the most frustrating things…I think we beat ourselves. Dubi turns the puck over, then Vinny Prospal takes a bad, selfish penalty, and along with some missed coverages, that cost us the game…I thought it was a huge mistake by Dubi, we spent two days talking about those things. The stubborness in that type of play changed the momentum of the game."
On Brandon Dubinsky:
Asked if Tortorella explained why he iced him, Dubinsky said, "Nope…I think it was pretty obvious what happened. Sometimes you make mistakes and you’ve got to pay the consequences…I certainly know what I did and what happened to me and you certainly can’t make those mistakes. It was a big turning point in the game and I’ve got to take care of the puck and be strong on it."

Larry Brooks covered the Upstate Ranger coverage briefly in Slap Shots
In the Posts’ Slap Shots segment of the paper, Larry Brooks touched on the Upstate Rangers coverage and battle with the Sabres.

Bill Daly apparently says the Rangers footprints are north and east of the city, meaning a) they’re either in the Bruins territory of New England or b) as Brooksie touches upon, in the ocean.
Bill Daly, you’re an idiot. Its insulting for someone to tell Upstate fans what market they live in. I think they know, and you obviously don’t.
Per Slap Shots
“The question, posed in e-mails from disgruntled fans in the Albany region (as opposed to the gruntled ones who never seem to write), is why the Rangers are blacked out on television when Sabres’ games conflict even though the capitol region is in far closer proximity to Manhattan than Buffalo.
The answer, as provided in an e-mail by deputy commissioner Bill Daly is that the Albany region is a “shared territory” for the Sabres, Rangers, Devils and Islanders, and that the Sabres are given precedence, “because the Rangers’ footprint has traditionally pushed north and east (not north and west) and the Sabres’ out-of-market territory has historically been New York State outside of the metropolitan area.”
If, then, you’re a Rangers fan whose footprints are north and east of the city, you likely are making them on a beach off the Atlantic Ocean. But you might be able to watch the games."
Right Bill Daly, because you know Upstate NY better than Upstaters do?
