Stick salute to HeartOfARanger for breaking this on the site.

Like we all speculated Marian Gaborik will not play tonight against the New York IslandersAndrew Gross reported the story on his blog "Rangers Rants," here are some highlights:

Marian Gaborik will miss tonight’s game against the Islanders with an injury that the Rangersare still not specifying other than to say it’s unrelated to Gaborik’s hip or groin. Since Gaborik also ruled out his torso and was seen shaking his right leg as he left the ice Monday against the Coyotes after colliding, we believe, with Petr Prucha, we have to believe it’s a right leg issue. Coach John Tortorella, asked if he was concerned, said he was not. But when he was asked for a timetable going forward with Gaborik in terms of skating/playing, said he had no idea.

"He won’t be playing tonight," Tortorella said. "And, again, I’m not going to get into explaining his injury but it is not anything from prior as everybody is always worried about and certainly we are are. But, no, I’m not concerned. We’ll keep him out tonight. I have no idea (when he’ll return).

Really no surprise here. My guess is that even if he was feeling very good the Rangers were going to sit him, no need to get him even more injured against the Islanders. Like Jim said before this game off will give him 3-4 days of full rest to recover. Obviously we will keep an eye on his injury until he gets back onto the ice but as of right now it's not a big deal.

Also it should be noted that John Tortorellas "I have no idea (when he'll return)" should not be taken to heart. Torts never does like to guess when players will be back, so that statement does not mean that Gaborik is more injured than we thought.

Remember, we will be at Croxley's in Farmingdale, NY tonight if you can make it, then Cafe 31 in the city tomorrow.

Rob will give you all the recap and be the moderator in the live thread so behave. Go Yankees!

This isn't good.

I really don’t like the Rangers being so quiet on the actual injury. I’ve been through a year of that with the Mets and I can tell you it doesn’t end well. Not good.

i agree

ive been saying this all along with the same example of the mets and jose reyes… what was “day to day” turned into a season of not playing.
but i also heard some rumors about reyes pulling a knife on wright in a club while he was injured… so it can get a bit out of control

that would kinda suck

besides the fact it would be cool to hang out and have a beer with a ny ranger, right now id rather see him bury the isles.

the problem

with hockey is that no one gambles on it. Teams in the NFL get fined for not revealing every little detail of every little injury. its in the NHL rules that anything from a broken leg to a small cut on your toe can be ruled as a “lower body injury.” Tortorella certainly doesn’t seem like the type to reveal more details than he has to, and since the league basically requires nothing, why let other teams in on what’s going on? The only problem, is it freezes out the fans too

Guys try to remember the NHL's rules when it comes to injuries

you are NOT allowed to be specific, this way a goon cannot target a specific injury. This is all status quo

Wow...

I joined this site early this afternoon and I already got a stick salute! I’ve been following this site since I found it this summer, it’s awesome. I’m a die-hard Ranger fan, always have been and always will be. Let’s see the Boys In Blue annihilate the Isles tonight, even without Gabors. Hopefully this is just a safety precaution, I can’t imagine Gabors not giving it all he’s got so he could play against the Wild on Friday. Let’s hope Henrik isn’t sore from that fender-bender yesterday too. I’m excited to see what Parenteau brings to the table, AHL and NHL are different worlds, but the Islanders are a good team for him to face first. Let’s go Rangers!

lets go rangers..

not to worry about gaborik hope we pull off a nice win tonight

side note: hate baseball but would like to see a new york team win as i read an article in the daily news today about how much of an economic boost the city will we get if the yankees win so i guess that would be nice but still not going to watch that garbage

torn between NYY and Philly

People give me crap for not wanting to root for the yankees this year.
This year i personally want the yanks to win against the phillies because i hate how rollins and them dont shut up, and since the mets most certainly didnt shut them up the past 3 years maybe the yanks can.
You see, i dont hate the yankees. I hate how everyone blows jeter up to be amazing at everything. Dont get me wrong he is a solid player and i would love to have him on my team because he has done nothing but win since 96. But when he fields a routine grounder and flips it to second base, people act like god just stood before them….
anyways, yankee fans are annoying as hell and they are the reason i dont like the team.
But regretfully i kinda like the fact that NY could win a championship in 09. When the Giants won the superbowl it was an amazing feeling. so it wouldnt be bad to have another parade in the city and go have some beers and get crazy. So for that reason i want the yanks to win.

im a met fan. but if itll provice an economic boost to the city. than go yanks.

plus its not as hard to root for the yanks when their playing the phillies

Met’s fan here. Can’t root for the yanks. If it’s good for NY… Philies in 7 games is my hopes.

I’m also a Met fan but can’t get myself to say Go Yanks and mean it.

by earthworm on Oct 28, 2009 7:43 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I might hate the Phillies less and at least none of them have admitted to using steroids or HGH, might have to…..gasp……route them on….or maybe I just won’t care…….thats it,
i just wont care.
