Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

Softer then Clarkson after he's seen a lady....

Is it just me, or has the NHL gotten really soft! Recently I watched Stan Fischlers top rated tough guys in the league and I have to say, it left me thinking that I have fought with tougher women in line at the grocery store. I know Stan means well, and if they asked him to name some tough guys in what is now a soft NHL, he did what he was told. But to openly admit that any of these five guys could scare you if you were in a dark ally with them is absurd. I cannot begin to imagine the pain and frustration a man like stan, who knows hockey as well as he does, must have went through to come up with Hartnell and Clarkson as the top five tough guys. Did he throw this together over breakfast? I do appriciate the fact that Orr is not on there for throwing one punch three years ago.

I don't think today I could name five players that are good enough at shaking the gloves with anyone of the old NHL. But just for an interesting conversation, I wanted to see who cracks the top five of the bloggers here. Name your top five fighters of ALL TIME.

Here are my five, My favorite being Joey Kocur because of his size and his ability to wait out the fight for that great moment where he would break his knuckles on your face. God I miss real Hockey!

1. Bob Probert

2. Joey Kocur

3. Tony Twist

4. Tie Domi

5. Darren Langdon (because Im a rangers fan, so I had to have at least three on this list!)

Honorable Mention - Darcy Tucker- Because in all my life, I have never seen Darcy Tucker win a fight, but god bless him he was going to try every single game anyway. lol. He had the heart, but not the hands.

Hmmm. Very Tough

Ok. Here’s mine:

1. Dave Semenko – at the height of his reign he never even had to fight
2. Bob Probert – held the belt for a long time
3. Dave Schultz – belonged in jail
4. Stu Grimson – destroyed Langdon
5. Nick Fotiu – because ya gotta have a Ranger

Honorable Mention: Kurtenbach, Kocur, Twist, Gilles

Hey BlueBlood – do one for middleweights next!

Semenko...totally slipped my mind

Nice pick on number 1. It totally slipped my mind. I was watching Probert vs Twist yesterday when I wrote this. Good stuff, and I also watch Probert vs Domi, with Domi doing his silly belt thing at the end. He said Messier came over to him in the locker room, after a shower and said, “If you want respect in this league, don’t pull that bullshit again.” Domi said was also very intimidated by Messier, then they went out on the town. You can’t make stories like that up.

You got it on the Middleweights. I’ll post that Monday.

Its real easy to talk shit about Clarkson on a computer.

If you were in a situation where it would be acceptable for him to rock you, I doubt you would be so hard. Personally, I’ll throw my money on a guy who has gone toe to toe with Brashear, Orr, and guys like this then the guy saying he has fought tougher grandmas on the internet. You wouldn’t be scared to fight Colton Orr or Donald Brashear? Really?

I like the idea of what you are trying to do, what I don’t like is you disrespecting guys who are as tough as they come, regardless of what you may or may not think. Could the fighters of today stand toe to toe with the guys you mentioned? Probably not.
But it is different hockey. The guys now are faster and more skilled, there is less fighting, and less dirty plays and cheapshots (this is true for all sports, fighting used to be accepted, everybody moved on, that was that. Now There are all types of suspensions for fighting(and as for the NHL, there was some real dirty stuff going on back in the day that would never fly now)), guys don’t need to fight as much, it isn’t the way the teams are built.

You can say the boxers today aren’t on the same level as they were 20-30 years ago, but that doesn’t mean the guys from today won’t kick the hell out of a normal guy.

i think its funny

nrmax88,

You sit here and do the exact thing you accuse me of doing. Yet you know nothing about me. You are one real tough guy hiding behind the internet. I fear no man on this earth. I would not run, like donald brashear did his first fight in montreal, from a fight with any of these men. I honestly would not be scared of fighting Orr or Brashear. I most certainly would not be scared of Clarkson! These three men have the worst balance in the National Hockey League, and I am someone who played Jr b in canada. I am not good enough for the NHL. I understand that. I was a average player, I am not bragging that I played anywhere. I merely am saying, they are not at all “tough” compared to the standards of the OLD NHL.
You are correct though, I am not a professional Athlete. But to say that would crawl up into an ball if one of those three men wanted to fight me, is a joke. NONE OF THEM HAVE BALANCE. I say this and I mean this. How can you say the league’s skill level has gone up if the lowest of the low…the goons don’t have the ability to balance themselves in a fight. I had to hear for the last two seasons about Colton Orr’s speed skating classes in the off season from the blue seats. He’s terrible. TERRIBLE. And I am more scared of Brashear coming across with a cheap shot then standing toe to toe with him! Clarkson is a joke, much like yourself sir. Much like yourself!
