Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

Rangers News and Notes: Afternoon Edition

Sorry this is late, but we've had some site issues today, as you have probably noticed.

Andrew Gross confirms what Joe had for us earlier: No Avery tomorrow. (click link for full story)

Some other notes from the story:

First off, today's lines stayed the same:
Vinny Prospal-Brandon Dubinsky-Marian Gaborik
Christopher Higgins-Chris Drury-Ryan Callahan
Enver Lisin-Anisimov-Kotalik
Donald Brashear-Brian Boyle-Aaron Voros
Wade Redden-Matt Gilroy
Michael Del Zotto-Michal Rozsival
Marc Staal-Dan Girardi

Assuming Henrik Lundqvist gets the start. (The guess here is that Steve Valiquette plays Monday against the Maple Leafs at the Garden after Lundqvist starts Sunday against the Ducks).

Chris Botta has a nice article on Del Zotto on Fanhouse:(click link for full story)

It's quite a shock, watching a defenseman just four months removed from the Ontario Hockey League in this crucial position on Broadway. Picture the Yankees' closer being a teenager out of Single A, the Giants' quarterback straight out of Boise State. That's Del Zotto as the point man on the first unit of the Rangers' power play.

More after the jump....

From the Charlotte Checkers, the Rangers ECHL affiliate:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers announced that the New York Rangers have reassigned forward Ryan Hillier to Charlotte while goaltender Miika Wiikman and defenseman Trevor Glass have been reassigned from Hartford of the American Hockey League and goaltender Billy Sauer has been reassigned from Lake Erie of the AHL.

OHL comparison

I disagree with Botta. I think the OHL is arguably just a notch below the AHL just in terms of pure talent. Obviously there’s more to the game than talent, but if your in the O you can play.

Rangers are doing well

w/o Avery right now so no need to rush him back. I love him and want him back very much but let him come back when he is 100%. Cant wait to see him agitate!

yeah let avery get better and lisin is filling in admirably. 3rd line never really seems to get enough time out there. always appears they are gettin yanked the sec i see them out there. and duby and gabby seem to be on the ice every other shift. the season is a marathon not a sprint. they werent lying when they said torts really rides his horses.

also any chance they swap cally for kotalik when avery comes back bc i dont see AA avery and kotalk meshing. is it just me?

not sure

i really couldnt tell ya, but avery anisimov kotalik just doesnt sound right.

i think theyll put avery with anisimov and cally and than put drury higgins and kotalik together, not sure though.

and yeah thats what torts does. expect the first line to play 20+ mins every night

LET'S GO RANGERS!!!

i agree con, Torts has to get that 3rd line on a little more. Also, i feel as if avery coming back (whenever) is going to help Anisimov get into a groove, i really dont see lisin and ani making it happen out there.

3rd line has been bad

The 3rd line hasn’t been out there because they haven’t been very good. I think they actually lost minutes to the 4th line in the last game. Torts seems to view the lines as a hierarchy of playing time. Top line plays the most, second line next, etc… I don’t think Kotalik has played well enough to warrant being moved to the second line. He’s been good on the PP (when he hits the net anyway), but invisible at even strength. The only time he stood out was the diving play at the end of the Devils game. Do you really want to move Cally down for him? More ice time for Kotalik at even strength likely means less for Cally…

Not that I would want to move cally down but i would like to have some balance on the lines, & also to have a solid third line that is more productive than the 4th line. Plus I think drury and higgins would benefit from having kotalik on their line, and vice versatile
