Rangers Recap: Lundqvist and Gaborik lead Rangers past Bruins, 1-0
As we said earlier in the day, the Rangers needed a big performance from their goaltender today to help spark them. Henrik Lundqvist did his part, and Marian Gaborik made sure he left with a W, scoring the only goal in the Rangers 1-0 win over the Boston Bruins today at Madison Square Garden.
After two listless games against the Islanders and Wild, the Rangers played with emotion all day long. There was good hitting and goaltending from both sides. The Rangers needed a big win today, and they got one. Hopefully they can carry it over on the west coast swing that begins Tuesday night in Vancouver.

Post game quotes after the jump......
John Tortorella on the team's effort...
"That is a tough team to play against - the way they play, how strong defensively they are, how they play in the neutral zone. It needed to be a patient, grinding type game. I think if you open yourself up, that is when they counter and that is when they become successful. I thought our decision making was good. I thought our grinding was better. Cally (Ryan Callahan)...I thought (Christopher) Higgins had a good game in the grinding part of it. (Ales) Kotalik, as far as being strong on the puck. We found a way to score a goal and found a way to win."
Marian Gaborik on Vinny Prospal...
"His work ethic is unbelievable. He is a great playmaker. He goes there and works hard. He sees the ice, you can see that every night out there. He is looking to pass and he did tonight."
Henrik Lundqvist on today's game...
"It was a fun game. This is what I was used to last year...low scoring and tight. I got a little spoiled this year. We have been scoring a lot. The feeling was one mistake could cost us big time. I like that feeling. I have to be on my toes all of the time."
Vinny Prospal on tonight's game...
"Obviously Hank (Henrik Lundqvist) was great for us in net. He made some huge saves throughout the whole hockey game. We were able to score the goal and it proved to be the winner. They are a really good hockey team. They have everything that a hockey team needs. They have the playmakers. They have the goal scorers and they have a great goalie as well."

what about the Yankee game?
Oh and by the way Gabby played at not 100% and still scored a goal. Here is to him.

4th Line Drury?
That’s what the MSG announcers said, not sure if it’s reality. Seems to me like the distinction between the 3rd and 4th line are pretty blurry right now, but who would have thunk that we’d have a 7 million dollar 4th line center. I hope he plays with lots of heart.

you can bash dru all you want for his salary, but sather is the one who paid it to him and drury is the same player now he was when they gave it to him. he scores slightly less than he did then, but he was never going to be a gaborik, in fact if you take away his pp points the last couple years he is on the same pace at even strength for what he got then.
all that said, he was paid for his leadership and he earns his spot killing penalties and there is no other forward i would rather kill penalties than him. does he make too much money? sure he does, but that’s not his fault so stop begrudging him for sather overpaying.

I gotta say Leetch
I expected more out of him offensivley. Right now he is on pace for 10 goals and 16 assists for 27 points. I want a 50-60 point year out of him with at least 20 goals and then all that other stuff. Thats the guy that Sather paid for, not this one.

I pointed out
and now so has leetch, Drury w/o PP time is a 35-40 pt guy. Yes, he’s even below that pace but he’s not talented enough at ES to produce 55 pts.
This one is up to Tortorella. I know he likes Callahan on the PP unit with Gaborik and Prospal..but he needs to put Drury in that spot instead and put Callahan on the 2nd unit. It’s not like Callahan has been a PP force to this point.
That should get Chris going, in theory.

But as I said before Smurf
He needs to do everything else right. He needs to kill penalties well, win faceoffs and be a physical presence in the netural zone. He has be off and on with that all year. Some games he is great others I think hes a healthy scratch. He needs to step it up big time.

Begrudge?
Nope, not here. I’m all for people earning their paychecks though. He needs to work his ass off to earn that amount money killing penalties. When someone runs Hank, the Captain should step up and punish the offender. Number 11 certainly would. Has he done that this year? I know he’s more of a lead by example type and is an upstanding citizen, but hockey is a tough sport and sometimes you need to step out of your comfort zone to send a message to both your teammates and opponents. If you truly believe he’s the same player that he was 3 years ago, you need to look at some tape. He’s much slower now and can’t keep up with the new pace. Scoring aside, he’s not doing the intangible things as well and is not lugging the puck up the ice anymore. I expect his ice-time to decline making it even harder to earn that 7 million dollars. Our #2 line floundered even as our team excelled out of the gate, in no small part due to his puck carrying/moving issues. He is not playing like the 2nd line center they signed him to be. Just because I hold this opinion doesn’t mean I wished for it to occur, just commenting on what I see. Failing to acknowledge it does not make it go away.

im sorry but i dont think drury is having his regular type of year. usually he’d have 6 goals and like 7 assists or something around that. nothing to write home about but some decent numbers. With that said i like dru and pull for him and thats why it pisses me of when lisin is on the first pp unit and not him, torts does not play him with kotalik, and over uses him on the pk. i really want to see a first line of drury, gabby, and prospal, i think it would work out well. drury still needs to step it up and score, because if hes getting paid all this money to win faceoffs and be a good pk guy, then we would have re~signed blair betts. 40pt paced players get paid 2 million a year not 7.
