Rangers Gameday: News and Notes, Scouting the Blue Jackets

As the Rangers get ready for the BJ's tonight at the Garden, here is what's going on today:

Andrew Gross has a lot of info today. First off, the line combos for tonight:

Higgins-Prospal-Gaborik
Sean Avery-Artem Anisimov-P.A. Parenteau
Enver Lisin-Callahan-Ales Kotalik
Donald Brashear-Brian Boyle-Aaron Voros
Marc Staal-Dan Girardi
Michael Del Zotto-Michal Rozsival
Wade Redden-Matt Gilroy

Henrik Lundqvist will make his 5th straight start.

Meanwhile, Chris Drury skated for the third straight day and, for the first time since suffering a concussion he went through contact drills after Tortorella put his team through a non-optional morning skate (typically Tortorella prefers optional morning skates, particularly as the season progresses).

Pregame notes from the Rangers:

Marian Gaborik leads the Rangers with 11 goals and 18 points in 22 career regular season games against Columbus; Michal Rozsival leads all Ranger defensemen with five assists and six points in seven career appearences vs. the Blue Jackets.

All Time – Rangers vs. Blue Jackets
Overall: 3-5-1-0
At MSG: 1-1-1-0
At Columbus: 2-4-0-0

I thought Higgins played ok against Florida, he was probably the 3rd best forward on the ice behind “Prosborik”

I think Callahan said in Gross’s story that he has not played center since last year’s training camp.

Cally at center!?!?

Are you kidding me he looks like he has no setup skills at all. The guy is a gritty winger who hardly carries the puck over the blueline. Seriously I hope I eat my own words and cally looks good at center but seriously now that just retarded if he does horrible I think we need Locke or grachev up here as much as indont want to say it

Grachev isn’t ready, and he’s been playing wing since coming to North America last fall.
If you really want to screw him up, then by all means – bring him up to the big club and put him at center.

What good is having a prospect if we can’t screw him up?

Gilroy

I was just looking at the stats and noticed that Gilroy is the only Rangers dman with positive +/- of plus 4. This stat can be deceiving sometimes, but Gilroy plays a lot of minutes so I think it showes that he is doing ok on defense. I do want to see his offensive game come around though….

Cally at center

why not, i would have avery there but cally’s game is all around the ice like a center if he can win face offs, i say its a good idea all he has to do is keep good positioning and dump the puck deep. why? you all say, well hes on the line with kotalik and lisin, can anyone say minus. cally is responsible and i think he relishes a line where he can captain the guys around him. Lets see if it works, what do we have to lose.
If it wouldnt screw up his development i would call up heikkenen and move gilroy to a wing, but he is still working on his d game so that would ultimately be a dumb move. please rozy start playing good enough so someone would want you by the deadline.

I have taken my rightful place as the Number 1 team in the Blueshirt Banter Fantasy Hockey League…I just thought it was important everyone knew that.
