Rangers News: Wade Redden out 5 to 7 days

Steve Zipay over at Blue Notes is reporting that John Tortorella said that Wade Redden will miss 5 to 7 days with an "upper-body injury". It appeared Redden hurt his shoulder last night on a check from Victor Oreskovich of the Florida Panthers.

Looks like we are going to get a good look at Bobby Sanguinetti, as the Rangers play three games in the next four nights.

sorry to see redden get hurt...

but this may actually help the rangers because they can finally see a bit of what sangs can offer…hopefully sangs will have an awesome audition and they bench rosival when redden comes back…i know rosival had a good couple of games but this guy needs to just go away…maybe he will play well and we can trade him to phoenix for doan (i wish) haha…the rangers have a plethora of players now and i think we might see them unload one or 2 of them…i actually think dubinsky might be in trouble…i can definitely see dubi being packaged with rosival or redden to free up some cap space

right now i dont want us to re-sign Girardi either.

Next summer get rid of Roszival and Girardi (aka MR stagnation) and give Sanguinetti a permenant spot. By all indications McDonough is coming out of college next summer so if he’s ready give the other spot to him or actually with Rozy’s cap space get a hard hitting D man. Maybe even try out Heikkenen. He’s doing well in the A.

Honestly I don’t think Girardi will still be a Ranger come trade deadline.

any ideas as to what we might get for him? with the way we have drafted the last couple of years i certainly wouldnt mind adding picks.

Depends on their place in the standings

If they’re out of it, Girardi for picks makes sense.

Otherwise, he’ll be the bait to fill whatever holes they have…which is most likely a bruising D-man.

you guys are so quick to get rid of players after what, 15 crappy games for girardi?

he played well for 2+ seasons, and he plays 15 bad games and you want him gone. hes our second best dman no question about it.

trust me im all for getting rid of rozi/redden but not girardi

Couple things

Girardi’s been the worst PK d-man to date.
More goals overall have been allowed with him on the ice than anyone else, despite playing with the 2nd best quality of teammates.

So I think one can certainly question whether or not he’s our 2nd best d-man this year (IMO, that honor goes to Gilroy thus far)

But beyond that, and much more importantly, he’s a RFA, and he’s going to command at least 1.75m next year and probably closer to 2.5m, and there is a veritable army of defenseman in the organization that are going to find their way into the lineups over the next couple years, and they’re going to make less than 2.5m.

Getting rid of Rozsival/Redden is not exactly as easy as snapping your fingers and getting rid of them, and if Sanguinetti plays up to speed, it is Girardi’s spot that is most likely in jeopardy to make room for Sangs next year, with R & R parting ways to make room for McDonagh and Budweiser when the time comes.

It’s not a matter of wanting to get rid of him, it’s a matter of being realistic about the future of the Rangers organization, and whether you like it not, Girardi is playing for his job and so far has not played to the level he’ll need to play at to keep it.

Moshe, I am not looking at just the 15 games of this season, I’m looking at the big picture:

1. He has not played well in this system, meaning he may be a bad fit.
2. Tortorella has not been thrilled with his play.
3. He is a RFA at the end of the season, currently making $1.55M.

Staal is also a free agent at the end of the year. With a salary cap that is expected to go down, its going to be difficult to keep them both. It just seems pretty obvious DG will be the odd man out.

I agree

Girardi will probably end up with Renneys team, just for that reason, he doesnt fit Torts’ system. He looks lost at times.

UGH

its hard to hear talk of moving any dman without first solving the rosival issue.I agree with the comments though, they make sense.
When it comes to rosi,i hate the guy more and more every game,i’m getting to the point that im probably blaming him for things that arent his fault now.I watch him like a hawk when he’s on the ice,and he really is awful.I’m more forgiving of a young guy than I am of a guy who seems to be worthless.
I’m really looking forward to watching Sanguinetti tonight, and 2 rookies together on the blue line?? LOVE IT!
