Rangers Recap: Lighting 5 Rangers 1 the "we still have no secondary scoring" edition

2 months ago: New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist (30), of Sweden, is replaced by teammate Steve Valiquette after giving up his fourth goal of the game during the second period of an NHL hockey game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, in Tampa, Fla. (AP Photo/Mike Carlson)

Except this time it did matter. The Rangers had no heart, they had no passion, they didn't care and it showed. John Tortorella's return to Tampa Bay was ruined, and good; Tortorella deserved to get nothing from this one. His boys came out flat and he did nothing to change them. Few Rangers came out to play tonight and I include Tortorella in that category.

The first period was all Lightning, aside from a secluded minute where the Rangers moved the puck well and Sean Avery took a perfect feed from Marian Gaborik and rang his shot off the post. Steve Stamkos snapped home his 16th of the year finishing a pretty pass from Martin St. Louis and as the period drew to a close Kurtis Foster scored a power play goal with Ales Kotalik sitting in the box. The Rangers were outplayed all period and I was actually quite surprised that John Tortorella didn't call a time out, especially in the beginning moments of the first when the Rangers were getting completely dominated. Regardless hats off to Tampa Bay who came out firing and had the Rangers on their heels the entire period.

The second period continued to be bad for the Rangers. With Artem Anisimov sitting in the box for a high sticking penalty the Lightning went on yet another power play. It was there that Stamkos took the puck all the way from the point to the slot with Michael Rozsival just backing up and giving him space. Rozsival then let Stamkos pass the puck to St. Louis and then stand there as Steve Downie banged the puck home. You may not blame Rozsival here but I do, play the man with the puck or if you do decide to hang back don’t let the puck get past you.

I'm sorry but here is yet another gripe I have with Tortorella, Rozsival is playing horrible hockey right now; why is he on the ice in key moments? I know that Wade Redden is out but Michael Rozsival is just a waste of a hockey player right now.

Shortly following that goal Lighting scored again after Bobby Sanguinetti couldn't keep Paul Szczechura off the puck and he banked the puck in to make it 4-0. That goal chased Henrik Lundqvist, who didn't play as horrible as the score line would indicate but he didn't play a good game.

The third period was basically an encore of the other two, from all respects. The Lightning continued to dominate the play and scored their fifth goal (Foster scored his second, another rocket this time right off the faceoff). Nothing changed, including the Rangers play.

I’m going to put this here because it is way too important for the empty netters section below. I fully believe that John Tortorella has lost or is losing this team. No John Tortorella team should come out and play like this consistently, which they have been. As Jim said to me during the game "this nice little two game winning streak will probably turn into a three game losing streak." If the Rangers keep playing like this who can blame us for the thought?

Empty Netters:

  • If I hear Sam Rosen or Joe Micheletti say the phrase "The Rangers need to generate some scoring chances" or "The Rangers need a spark right now" I am going to punch a baby. We know boys, shut up and call the game, we are irritable as is.
  • Jim mentioned this during the game but big props to Brian Boyle for taking one for the team and fighting in the second period. He isn't a fighter and got the crap kicked out of him to try and spark the team. Good for you Boyle, the boys let you down tonight.
  •  After a fantastic game against the Florida Panthers Chris Drury was invisible tonight. Sorry Chris but you need to start stepping up.
  • Look Chris Higgins might be playing really well but if he doesn’t start scoring I say relegate him to the 3rd or even 4th line. I know he makes the moves and gets some shots but he simply isn’t scoring and it’s hurting this team, period. He needs to step it up big time.
  • The same goes for Ryan Callahan who is not scoring goals and unlike Higgins is not getting many chances. He had a few tonight and didn’t bury them, of course. (I wrote this recap before the game was over and don't feel like changing it. He scored to make it 5-1 (congrats) but the point still stands, where was that for the past 16 games? I don't want to be too hard on him because he works his ass off and is one of the few Rangers who I really think cares but the point has to be made.)
  • On the bright side if Tortorella does make the call to go with Lundqvist tomorrow against the Penguins he has half a game off. Personally if I were a betting man I would say that Steve Valiquette starts tomorrow, just a hunch.

Won’t have to sit on this one for long as the Rangers play the Penguins in Pittsburgh tomorrow. Vent here my friends, the floor is yours.

Torts/Team Leader

i have to agree with you joe about torts losing some of the team…i don’t think they are responding to him anymore, which is downright scary considering we’re not even at the halfway mark. tonight the team was awful and gutless.

i think some of it has to do with player leadership, or lack thereof. drury is what he is, he is talked about enough, we all know he is a pitiful and oft-invisible leader for our team. cally, as hard as he plays, is not the man to lead the troops just yet. prospal is someone who could be somewhat of the fiery leader, but with just the “A”, i don’t seem him doing that. fact is it all really stems down from the coach and captain, and both don’t seem to have the team responding at all.

and also higgins, as hard as he tries, cannot put the biscuit in the basket. he’s like the little engine that never could. time to give him fourth line duty. i think if brash got the ice time higgy got with the top 2 lines he would have bagged more goals already (a joke of course….but maybe not haha)

Was even worse in person

Having seen this debacle first hand, I’m lucky I had a small dinner (or it would’ve decorated section 329). I’m also quite certain that: a) Lightning ‘fans’ are both clueless about the Sport and jack-arse’s (more on this below), b) Rozsival needs to get cemented to the bench, AHL, or both, and c) the one Rangers fan with a Lindros jersey needs to bury that thing. Now.

The ‘off camera’ perspective featured a team on the Bench who simply didn’t see to care period. Ditto during stoppages where there was disinterest all over their faces.

On a brighter note, Bobby 54 looked fairly good out there, one of the only NYR (in addition to Brashear, surprisingly) who played a strong, all-around mental game.

I’m not certain what needs to be done here, but it can begin with getting rid of our 2nd tier, underperforming veterans (who have any trade value) plus younger players who might’ve already peaked.

Unless the early season start was an anomaly and/or this team is hampered by poor execution, this roster is an abomination.

Last – and alluding to above: maybe it’s due to having a legacy team and/or more knowledgable fans, but endless insults of ‘going back to where I came from’ due to wearing a Rangers jersey is indicative of a poor fanbase. (Not to mention I live across the street from the SPT Forum. Where should I go?) Probably the last time I set foot in that damn arena on my own dime.

Is this the worst team in the NHL right now

I’ve watched countless other NHL games and no other team is playing this clueless style hockey where they are trying to be a offensive team that can’t score and look so lost in their defensive zone coverage that I wonder if these players are being coached or just expected to perform. This team by far gives up the most break aways and odd men rushes which is astonishing considering the defense never seems to be at the points when the puck goes there. I mean it looked like an all-star team vs a minor league team. The first 5 min. of the game was pathetic display of hustle they couldn’t clear the zone, lost every loose puck battles, and when the defense had time to move the puck they iced it. I was thinking to myself they should just ice the puck every time they get it maybe they keep it 0-0 with 200 icings in the game. I blame this on the team’s make-up with their lack of toughness. By toughness I mean the ability to knock the other teams down or off the puck with a clean hit and occasionally hurting an opposing player, knock people down in front of the net so they don’t get rebounds, and fore check causing the other team’s defense to fear playing the puck making them hesitate like our defense does when they go back to get the puck. Every team we face now all look faster and tougher than we do. Did anyone think Gaborik got blasted from behind in the first period w/out anyone going over there to say cut that out. Donald Brashear is not the answer we need someone like an Adam Graves or Jeff Buekeboom that will actually be on the ice when one of our players gets taken advantage of to keep the other team honest. Thank god Gaboriks on this team or it would be completely unwatchable and I wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t win a game.

Higgins

As long as he generates chances, you can’t relegate him to 3rd duty, let alone 4th. It’s a simple concept really, the more you shoot, the more you score. Yes, he’s really, really snake bitten right now but he’s one of the few Rangers outside of Prosborik that is consistently generating shots, he needs ice time.

I would get him off of the Prosborik line though, since they can generate their own chances, so Higgins would be best suited on a different line. Stick him with Anisimov and Parenteau and move Avery up. I don’t think Avery belongs on the 1st line really, but it makes the most sense right now until Dubinsky returns.

That gives you:
Avery-Prospal-Gaborik
Higgins-Anisimov-Parenteau
Lisin-Drury-Callahan
Brash-Boyle-Kotalik

I gotta say smurf im losing my patience and fast with him

he needs to start burying the puck, and if he doesnt then why take minutes from guys who have been such as lisin?

He’s shooting 3.7% thus far. His career before this was around 12%. Eventually, they’ll start finding the net. Now I know it’s almost at the point in the season where you just say it’s not going to happen, but I mean it’s not like there are alot of guys who are generating shots that are rotting away.

Lisin is a good example, but they’ve effectively been the same player at this point, Lisin only gets 1 minute less at this point. (ignoring special teams).

I mean, I understand the frustration, but w/ Higgins and Callahan you have the same kind of thing as Redden-Girardi. Everyone is quick to kill the first one when the 2nd one has been worse, but because they’re the homegrown kids, they get a pass.

Callahan has ZERO 5 on 5 points this season. (his one even strength goal/point was 4 on 4) Sure he hustles and hits and that’s all well in good, but zero points in 23 games is just bad.

I will agree that that is the general way of Ranger fan thinking

but as I put above Callahan needs to start scoring. (I do believe his goal tonight was was 5 on 5 thought wasnt it?) Regardless as I said above he needs to start scoring goals and now. He has been a HUGE dissapointment as has Higgins, but you are right I do feel for Cally since he is home grown.

It's a soft line-up thats easy to play against

Higgins-doesn’t score and doesn’t play an overly physical game (Expendable)
Anisimov- looks good for a rookie and has been scoring points horrible on face-offs and takes big hits with his head down
Parenteau- doesn’t score and doesn’t play a physical game can see why he’s been reugated to the pack. (Expendable)
Lisin- hasn’t scored lately and doesn’t play a physical game (Expendable)
Kotalik- should just be on the power play doesn’t play a physical game five on five invisible( Expendable)
Boyle- not enough offense to think he’s an upgrade for Blair Betts and as we saw tonight for a 252 lbs guy he can’t fight and is not fast enough to throw big hits. (Expendable)
Brashear- Horrible turnovers and for his price tag I don’t see how he is an upgrade for Orr, first off he not as indestructible as he was even last year plus he’s 38 Orr was 28 you can’t fight this long at a high level its bound to catch up with you sometime and having 5 minutes of ice time was this really the defining move that would make us a contender in the off season. he’s a non presence because he is a liability on the ice taking a regular shift take a look at the San Jose game where this all seemed to start.(Hopefully he retires after this year so we don’t have to pay him)
Callahan- at least throws the body but isn’t big enough to keep d-men honest and hasn’t been scoring should be a 20 goal scorer (Give him one more chance)
Drury- it is what it is, he’s not the same player he was in buffalo and for his price tag should be a 60 point player (expendable)
Avery- this is not the same player we had even last year even though I think he played better and should be on the line with Gaborik and Prospal (hate to say it but if he doesn’t play with an edge he’s no use for us, we have too many players like this already)

Staal- has looked very average especially with Giradi being so inept physically.

Giradi- Can this guy knock anyone off the puck let alone knock anyone down. He should fire his strength and conditioning coach. (expendable)

Redden- hasn’t looked as horrible only when making an outlet pass through the middle of the ice. needs to be more physical, waste of money. (Expendable)

Rosival- Has anyone seen a d-man so afraid to play the puck when someone is fore checking. He makes so many unforced turnovers because he afraid to get hit. (just buy out his contract)

Delzotto- Finally a draft choice worth getting excited about, Hugh Jessiman kills me considering we could of had Mike Richards or Zach Parise

Gilroy- Shouldn’t be the one left to stick up for Prospal because no one on this team has the ability to strike fear in their opponents.

by Twitch366 on Nov 27, 2009 11:58 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Twitch I agree and disagree

Drury: Rightnow sure he is expendable when it comes to points but he is the only guy who wins faceoffs. We need him here, and he isn’t going anywhere seeing as how he has a no movement clause.

Redden: his contract is like a no movement clause

Avery: Has played much better and is getting back to the Avery of old. Not expendable at all I fully disagree.

Lisin: Is injured but one of my favorite Rangers right now. He generates his own scoring chances and can score. I fully disagree again.

other than that welcome to the Banter and lighten up a little pal we only suck :-)

You should agree with one thing and that this team is in trouble

I just feel that this team needs a major shake-up or we will miss the playoffs this year. I don’t know if the coach hasn’t a clue to fix it, or the personnel on the ice just isn’t the right mix. I like to think a Stanley Cup coach knows what it takes to win and these players are under performing and need a good kick in the pants. After an effort like tonight and play that has been lacking for over a month now that panic should set in. We were lucky to win that Panther game, and all these teams are right where we are in the standings. I’ve been watching a lot of games and I think were in the most trouble (besides Carolina) with the toughness and skill needed for an 82 game schedule. We don’t make it hard for opponents to defend us by driving to the net with purpose and we don’t give star opponents anything to worry about physically playing our d. An example tonight would be Del zotto’s hit on Lecavier(sp?). Lecavier went after Del zotto and we pretty much lost every physical battle after that. Lecavier stood up for himself and created space for himself the rest of the game. On offense not one Ranger has that edge to create the space they need to be effective. Gaborik can do it with his speed and skill, while we have too many of the same type of players on our team that are not skilled enough to score off their initial shot, small and speedy, but are over matched physically trying to get secondary scoring opportunities from rebounds off those shots. How many secondary scoring chances do you see each game? You need to battle to get them and they might not be skilled or tough enough collectively to get them. Bottom line about the players you defend is they are not scoring and if your not scoring you better be shutting down the opponent. That 7-1 start is looking more and more like a mirage.

by Twitch366 on Nov 28, 2009 12:57 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I agree with ya!!

I have to agree with basically everything you noted above. This game last night was an absolute debacle with the team showing not one iota of heart or toughness. We have too many guys who are being paid to score aside from Gabs who just aren’t cutting it. I for one am not willing to give Cally a pass, he’s being depended on to score 20-25 goals, plain and simple and though he works his tail off every game he needs to net his fair share. All the effort in the world is not enough, this is the NHL and you need to be able to finish, otherwise the 4th line or the minors is where you belong. I’m not saying he needs to go at all, I love his hustle but players like him, Higgins, Boyle, Drury (faceoffs not withstanding), Voros (pleeeezzz) need to get this message loud and clear. I’m not even going to mention the lack of total toughness on the dee side and Hank getting run every game with no repercussion (Great signing of Brashear). Last nights game was a total team loss and I shiver at the thought of what might happen tonight in Pittsburgh with the Pens coming off the loss at the mausoleum to the Isles who it pains me to say, are playing a better and more spirited game right now than our boys. Season’s not lost but we need a quick reversal of fortune and attitude before we fall further in the standings and can’t climb out in time.

This team needs a Dubz back BAD!

I’m interested to see how this team plays when Dubinsky gets back. That play that Anisimov made to Callahan, is a move and assist chance Dubi makes about 2-3 times a game. Gomez lost time to Dubi last year because he worked harder than him and made grinding plays with nice passes from time to time. I’m really annoyed that we havent found a LW for Prospal and Gabby yet. Which means when Dubi is back i want to see Prospal on the Wing again with Dubz down the center. Drury is going to have to play third line minutes with Kotalik and Higgins, while getting 2nd pp minutes and 1st pk minutes. I like Anisimov on the 2nd line with Cally and Avery. Why do I say all these things, because these scenarios havet not been tried out in repetition and continuity.

by louielounz1 on Nov 28, 2009 1:59 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

yeah when dubinsky comes back i think he needs to be on the 1st with prospal and gabs on the wings.

second line keep avery anisimov parenteau

third can be lisin drury callahan

and fourth can be higgins boyle and kotalik (higgins is taking ice time away from players who can score and kotalik is terrible 5 on 5)

what do u guys think of those lines?

and for the D, keep sangs and get rid of roszival (btw terrible coaching by torts with roszival having the most ice time. is he even watching the game?)

staal gilroy
girardi mdz
redden sangs

good mix of offense and defense. i feel comfortable enough with staal girardi and even redden (sometimes) to let the rookies roam around a bit and play their offensive game.

what happened to torts fire and 2 man forecheck and winning because of outworking teams? are the players not buying into it? seriously no on eon this team tries.

and enough od oh but drurys doing the little things. thats great for him, but theres a reason their called the “little things”

time to step up and score some goals. he had a point blank shot last nnight from 10 feet away, right in the slot. and he shot RIGHT at the goalies chest. wtf is that?

LET'S GO RANGERS!!!

by Moshe52792 on Nov 28, 2009 8:45 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Higgins isn’t really taking time from any one that is outscoring him. Yes he doesn’t have the goals but he’s still getting about 1.32 points per 60, which puts him in the middle of the pack. Lisin is the only notable exception ahead of him.

But if you want to go on the basis of team +/-/60 , the lines are exactly as you say.

Bottom line is the team plays with zero toughness and until that changes team are going to have their way with us.

Oh, and Hank may want to stop allowing 3+ goals a game at some point.

Smurf

Absolutly no way you can be upset with Lundqvist right now.

Like I said in the recap this team is letting him down big time. Rozsival just let Stamkos walk into the zone and then did nothing to try and deter St. Louis from getting the puck to Downie. Nearly every goal that was scored was put in from right in front of the crease including the goal where Sanguinetti couldnt work Szczechura off the puck and he banked one home off of Gilroy.

Gotta blame the team for this one, but definitly not Hank.

Season, yes.

10 of his last 14 games he’s allowed 3+. I understand he’s not getting alot of help on the back end, but old Hank bailed them out a bit more than he has of late. That’s all i’m saying.

Concur.

All 4 goals were arguably not Hank’s fault. The shot from the point NO ONE could’ve stopped. (It was a helluva’ rocket.) I blame Rozi for two ghastly turnovers that left him out to dry for goals 1 and 2. Goal #4 was a bad bounce plus even worse clearance in front of the net.

No Soup For You

We’re all agreed that the Rangers are playing dreadful hockey. Can Tortorella turn it around? Or has he already lost the team? At what point should Sather start making some roster moves? Hartford has some great prospects, but are they ready for NHL duty? The Rangers defensemen are young and inexperienced. Is it time to write off the season and go to a youth movement? It is painful to watch the Rangers play right now. They are a real embarassment. We probably will end in last place in the Atlantic Division. I wonder if we could beat Hartford?

by snark38 on Nov 28, 2009 9:10 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

What's next.....

Everyone on here makes good points and suggesstions for what the Rangers should consider to do. however, I have no idea what to say because it seems Sather will not do anything because he is afraid to admit his miskates and their is no push from Mr.Dolan.

Rozy is so bad, how much can we all write how bad he is…trades have to be made, one contract bought out—Rozy, and a trade to bring in a veteran D-Man. By the way, has anyone checked out how good Fedor Tytuin been with the blue jackets..another Sather miskate….

Can Mark Messier influence Sather to make the moves we as fans know have to be made…rid of Rozy, brashear, another scorer and veteran D-man….this sucks welook forward to the hockey season and I will always watch and support my favorite team but enough is enough already..put the cigar down sather and man up…..

I agree

but Mr. Dolan looks at his income and sees ohhhh the Ranger fans are buying tickets, our vendors and apparel are sufficient so… The team must be doing something right. He doesnt care if the Ranger faithful are happy with the team, he just cares if the Ranger faithful are faithful. So that the players will resemble a playoff contending team. His pockets arent hurting in a bad economy, so why get rid of Sather?

Colton Orr

one more thing I left to mention. When Colton Orr was not signed at the start of free agency, it was because he did not fit Torts system and thye wanted more scoring..etc….My point and my opinion pertains to when Orr was on the Ice, teams feared him. Gabs and Proposal get hit and a rookie D-man has to take a 10-minute penalty to stick up for your best players. If Orr is on this team still, this crap does not happen..period. I recall the game a few seasons ago when the flyers were knocking us all over the place when Renney had Orr out of the lineup. Next game, Orr knocks out fednorik and the Flyers never messed with us again and Orr never missed a game..Thanks again Sather….

We obviously have nice young peices to build around

Lundquist

Gaborik

Del Zotto

Staal

Dubinsky

Whats puzzling about this team is the apparent lack of effort and the gaps between the d and the other teams offense in our defensive zone. When the other team gains the zone and passes it in our slot they have wide open opportunities, when we do a similar play the other teams d is glued to anyone in the slot or in the passing lane to prevent them from getting the puck. If the pucks loose in front of the net our players are put on the floor while we allow second and third chances in our end. There is something called a good penalty to take and I have yet to see a penalty called against the other team for clearing the crease when the puck is loose. We take far too many needless lazy offensive zone penalties that have nothing to do with preventing the other team from scoring and not enough penalties in our zone when they have the puck in high scoring areas on the ice.

We need more of a physical presence to play w/ Gaborik, because last night Stamkos hit him from behind into the boards with a cross check and if Gaborik goes down this season will really tank.

Avery-Gaborik-Prospal

Higgins- Drury – Lisin

Callahan- Dubinsky- Anisimov

Parenteau-Boyle- Kotalik

This is the line-up I’d go with and keep together for a least two games and switch Brashear w/ Parenteau depending on the other teams line-up.

Boyle would be in because of the penalty kill.

swap Anisimov and Drury. Anisimov is our best option for goal production beyond Prosborik thus far. It’s a shame the guy can’t win a faceoff…that’s probably the biggest hinderance from him getting more playing time.

It's amazing...

How our attitudes have changed from the 9th game of the year to the 25th game of the year. It totally seems like that 7 game win streak never, ever happened. They can barely win 2 games in a row now.

I’ve got no answers at this point, boys. Other than a full-scale meltdown by Tortorella or Avery, or just a total rehaul of the roster, I’m not sure what is left to do.

I don't think there's a quick fix

We are up against cap and have two unmovable d-men with their contracts w/ alot of years left. I wish we could move them and get more physical, younger, and talented on the back end. We need to draft that type of player because no one gives those away w/out giving something major up, contract dump, or past their prime. Cablevision has enough money to eat these contracts and deal w/ growing pains of Sauer and Saguenetti. The Knicks have been far worse off spending money on useless players than this franchise and Cablevision has eaten those errors of their GM

These are the players we have and if they start scoring they way they were at the beginning of the season it would cover up the glaring needs this team has physically and defensively, and allow Gilroy and Delzotto to continue to develop the defensive end of their game, but I don’t see how anyone can think this team will go far in the playoffs w/ their current roster.

Were starting to see the results of what happens when teams shut down Gaborik their is no one to pick up the offense.

Not to be stupid, but...

…there’s got to be a tangible reason why this team went from 7-1 to pure garbage. Injuries are not it. What KEY 1-2 elements need refining in the System to re-enable that?

Please don’t cite a history of fast starts + a coincidence. We were the best team in the league for the first month of the Season. That’s no fluke.

Happier note: welcome Twitch!

Yeah well Injuries kind of are it.

We can win a faceoff without Drury, not having Dubinsky pushes players up a line (which is screwing with chemistry) and I thought that Dubinsky was doing very well point wise. Now time for Cally and Higgy to step up.

other teams are finding ways to stop us

were not making hard for them either, it’s hard to pinpoint one problem with this team, I thought we were awesome when the year began then we played san jose, took a 2-0 lead and everything began to unravel. the fore check we had disappeared our defense has looked slow to pinch and caught in between stepping up and staying back not to give up chances making them look inept and the forwards inability to fore check and knock anyone down has them caught in too deep in the offensive end leaving big gaps between the two and makes it difficult to get back in their defensive end to pick up the trailing players and when they do pick them up they are on the wrong side of the players stick, or they don’t take them out when they crash the net for rebounds allowing them to bank loose pucks home for tap in goals. Playing physical in front of our own net has to be at least somewhat teachable. In the offensive end we aren’t generating the kind of scoring chances that lead to second and third shots and when there is a rebound it seems like our players are too deep and tied up to cash in. way to many penalties in the offensive end and not enough in the defensive end.

the vets are the problems

players like drury and rosival who have been with this team the longest are probably the bottom third of players on this team skill-wise…a team with real leadership would never have this much lack of effort and consistency…i know for a fact Messier would never let this happen

what scares me the most this was torts and prospals return game to tampa and the team didn’t even back them up on this one…as a team you would think they would rally behind these guys

as for what to do now…i think right now you have to ride it out…try to get these players to get going…possibly make a trade or sit down rozi but other than that you cant do much cuz calling it a season is ridiculous…this team has showed when they are motivated they are a pretty good team and a pretty fun team to watch

trade for george laraque ?

if this team thinks they got there asses handed to them by the lowly not so good bolts they are going to get destroyed by cindy and the pens tonight so they better have a good game plan cause they are going to be pissed from losing to the islanders .and enough with this colton orr stuff i liked the guy also but he is gone and not coming back so lets get a real enforcer in hear who will protect are players thats george the hammer laraque do it now..

what would that do

You have to play a regular shift to keep a team honest and super heavies are only one dimensional these days they rarely force the player that is running around to be held accountable they usually just fight the other team’s heavy that has nothing to do with the flow of the game. You need a rugged player that has skill enough to be on the ice when this stuff happens. Laraque isn’t going to answer the scoring and defensive gaps on this team. Back in the day we had Graves take care of Messier and Buekeboom take care of Leetch plus other rugged players that played a regular shift like Jay Wells. I remember a game against Flordia where Bill Lindsay was running around and at the end of the game you had Graves Messier Kocur and Buekeboom surround him and face wash him and elbow him in the head to let them know they didn’t appreciate his game that night. We don’t have that kind of team toughness those Messier teams had in the early to mid 90’s. Chris Drury got taken out and not one Ranger responded. If any team gives it to us physically we just don’t have those type of players on the team to stick up for them.

I have nothing constructive to offer. If this keeps up I’m going to throw my body down a well.

SATHER LEAVE PLEASE.

you know whats funny about sather? He makes one good move trading Gomez, to get Gabby. But around these moves he’s an idiot.

Kotalik doesnt look worthy of 3 million dollars at all maybe 1.5 or 2.
Despite getting rid of Gomez he got Higgins, who let me tell you is just lighting it up out there!
moving down the list
Big Brashear … now let me tell you, Colton Orr was not signed because heDOES NOT fit in Torts’ system..hmm who will fit that system ooo oo i know i know pick me… yesssss.. umm Donald Brashear?
correctamundo!!!
wait. im not done
lets sign Prospal for 1.1 million.
Okay so maybe he did two geat things this offseason
but…i want to complain so how come he didnt sign Prospal to a two year contract…nitpick much yes. but im in all out anti sather mode.
God i hope mess takes over soon that would be the nicest move Sather can ever make.

Bro, Sather has a lifetime contract.

The only way he goes is if he wants to. And dont think that all these moves are his and his alone. He consults with Tortorella and other members of the organization b4 making a deal but yes its his final say. Were stuck with him for awhile. He is holding us fans hostage for as long as he wants.
