Rangers News: Lines for tonight, Lisin scratched (as in not in uniform this time)

From Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants, here are the lines for tonight, subject to change after everyone's first shift:

Sean Avery-Vinny Prospal-Marian Gaborik
Christopher Higgins-Artem Anisimov-P.A. Parenteau
Donald Brashear-Chris Drury-Ryan Callahan
Ales Kotalik-Brian Boyle-Aaron Voros
Matt Gilroy-Bobby Sanguinetti
Marc Staal-Michal Rozsival
Michael Del Zotto-Dan Girardi

Can't wait to see Drury and Callahan get it going with Brashear on their line.

Also, Enver Lisin will be scratched this evening, I guess at this point we can call him "Enver Lesson" (ba-dum-bump)

Henrik Lundqvist in goal, in case you had any doubt, and if you did, why?

Be here all week folks........

What has Lisen done to get benched 2 games? He hasn’t played well… but not many have? What am I missing? I herd Torts post game comments but it still doesn’t make sense to me?

The third line tonight is interesting… But I don’t think it is in a good way.

Hopefully we can get some revenge tonight… but I’m guessing it is going to be painfull to watch.

At least I we get the rest of the week off! As a fan I need the rest.

Brashear can’t keep up on the 4th line, can’t see how he will do it on the 3rd line either.

You make a good point, if you are going to bench Lisin, there are about 6 others that could sit in the press box with him.

Brasear can’t keep up and Drury looks like he’s half asleep out there the last two games.

At least you can hoope that Lisen will improve… I lost hope in many of the guys. But maybe I just answered my own question. You bench Lisen he may respond. Some of the guys seem like they couldn’t care.

by CTrangerfan on Nov 30, 2009 3:10 PM EST up reply actions

WTF

I mean, how on earth can Brashear on the 3rd line be remotely considered a good idea? Let alone to do it for the 2nd time this year.

If Lisin needs to be benched, and for the life of me I don’t know why he needs to be benched, then go get Grachev from the doldrums and start an actual top 9 forward.

I just don’t get it. It’s dumbfounding.

see this is what i was talking about

Tortorella is trying to send a message to the wrong players. Bench Rozsival, bench Higgins, bench Drury, hell even bench Kotalik but not Lisin

Agree

Except for Higgins of course. His lack of scoring is not for lack of trying, at least not lately. If you bench him, you bench Cally. Same argument.

I would also add a bench Girardi and bench Redden.

There’s a sooner chance of him benching Henrik and Vally and go empty net for a game though.

Actually I wouldn't mind seeing Torts bench Callahan

Or at least sit him a game, let him get his barings.

Staal with Rozsival? Is he officially saying “lets take our worst defenseman and put him with our best, and see if that fixes it?”

Words out of order

Tortorella is lost with this team.

It’s like he has no idea what parts he has or how to use them. He just keeps sticking stuff out there with no discernible logic or reason.

i agree.

him putting brashear on the 3rd just shows he has no idea what to do.

put lisin in there, this is getting foolish.

hopefully we can play beter in our zone.

oh and their putting rozi with staal cause staal is the only one who can cover up his mistakes.

Torts is the worst

Firts I like the idea if this guy coming here to ny but I feel like he’s tearing this team Down to teach a lesson but doesn’t know how to motivate them back up. Benching lisin is RIDICULOUS!!!!! The kid was in his words "lost " defensivly before the season started and although he still isn’t the best in his own end he works his ass off and doesn’t look like as much of a reliability when I watch him now then before. So WTF is he doing makes no sense at all. Drives me nuts how is this gonna help lisin he needs to play to get better and find his scoring touch. If it’s a lesson he’s trying to teach him he should get fired now because he’s not the one to bench. I’m starting to hate torts if seeing brashear on the 3rd line didn’t put me over the edge already. He’s lucky he changes the lines every shift otherwise I’d be outside with a sign that says FIRE TORTS!!!’ for the next 55 games.

by klh2009 on Nov 30, 2009 3:59 PM EST via mobile reply actions

I’m not a huge fan of brashear myself but at least he attempts to stand up for his teammates (fact that he doesn’t do a good job of it is another story). Nothing kills me more then not seeing them stand up for each other or hank.

If we are going to make a rebuilding season out of this I would rather see rookies up here making the mistakes then vets not making the effort. I do like torts style but their is no excuse for a fiery coach to allow his team to play so relaxed.

by NYR9320 on Nov 30, 2009 4:13 PM EST via mobile reply actions

no heart.

hey bb. im new.
now then….what happened to the fiery torts we saw last season. he has been all but a good coach these last few seasons. the question is why the hell is he benching lisin? hes been one of the better rangers as of late. why is torts not calling any of his “famous” timeouts? after the few goals in the first, second, or even third period.

i dont blame vali as much, even though they were soft goals, but c’mon. torts is loosing a grip on this team, and they need to send a STRONG message tonight if they hope to even make the playoffs.

p.s. what up with dubi? any word on him?

Lines

They are a bit odd, but at the same time I have been wanting to see Avery on the first line for quite a while now. I am curious to see how he plays with prospal and Gabs. I think the result will be good.

Avery

I’ve been waiting to see him on the first line too I thought if somthing can get him going it’s prospal and gabs…. I mean the Avery dubi jagr line were good hopefully he gets a couple good open looks tonite.

by klh2009 on Nov 30, 2009 4:45 PM EST via mobile reply actions

I think its quite obvious what he's doing, even if its the wrong way to do it.

Torts obviously wants to have Brashear on the ice more so he can stand up for our guys more often and Boyle and Voros can do that stuff too. Yeah all three absolutly stink at it but what are we going to do. I would like to bench Drury but with his value on faceoffs(when on his game) is much more valuable then Lisin at this point. But yeah its odd for sure why hes doing this, and just shows how he really lost the wheel. lets hope he moves Kotalik up to third and keeps the Goons on the 4th most of the game and maybe we’ll have a chance. And lets hope Lisin isnt benched for long either.

by CrazyRangerFan on Nov 30, 2009 4:46 PM EST reply actions

I disagree

I don’t think Torts wants Brashear on the ice more to defend his teamates. He can wait untill someone throws their weight around and then put out Brashear. No need to play him 15 minutes a night a pray that somethinig happens while hes on the ice

I assume it is his way of benching Kotalik. The trueth is I have no idea what is going on in his head.

As for..

“Henrik Lundqvist in goal, in case you had any doubt, and if you did, why?”

I’m starting to doupt everything because most of it makes no sense to me!

What Torts is doing??? I just don’t get the lisen benching. Brashier on the third.

by CTrangerfan on Nov 30, 2009 5:00 PM EST up reply actions

Brashear is on the third line because he is one of the few people who crashes the net

so instead of trying to GET HIS TEAM TO DO IT! he is putting Brashear there.

Blueshirt Banter: Covering the New York Rangers the only NHL team with three home arenas.

by Joe Fortunato on Nov 30, 2009 5:02 PM EST up reply actions

He just looks to slow… he’s getting there to late. I don’t see it working but the lines will likely change after the first shift anyway.

I’ll be glues to the set for this one.

by CTrangerfan on Nov 30, 2009 5:05 PM EST up reply actions

Completely disagree

The most logical reason he has brash on that 3rd line us to def defend us early on in the game what possible other reason can there be? You saw how physical the end of that penguin game got. Watch brash fight early on then get dropped to the 4th cause you know damn well he didn’t put brash on the 3rd because he sees a scoring touch in him.

by klh2009 on Nov 30, 2009 5:04 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

he is putting Brashear there to help

crash the net. Brashear might suck right now be he has a pretty good hockey IQ

A captain

Am I the only one who thinks we need a real captain on the team? Chris Drury is not rallying anybody, he’s not leading by example, he’s not pulling a shanny, cally or gilroy and standing up for teammates. He is, for all intents and purposes, invisible. Everybody blames Torts, and he does shoulder a lot of the blame. Erratic changing of lines, hindering of chemistry and now a dumb benching of Lisin are all on his back. But Drury should be the focus of the team, someone to build around. Short of being “the face off guy,” and a solid penalty killer, Drury has been crap. We need a real captain on this team to step up and give these guys a tongue lashing and some identity.

It sounds like a lot of people are ready to throw in the towel on this season already.

But I think we have some very talented players who are severely under performing right now. Some changes definitely could be made to make the team better, but we are most certainly capable of winning games with the group we have, so long as they start playing up to their potential. Look at the Pens from last year. We were all laughing at them in january when they were sitting pretty in tenth place looking like they were going to miss the playoffs. How did that one turn out? After they brought in Bylsma everything changed. If 25 games into the season Torts hasn’t been able to figure out how to make this team wins maybe it’s time to give someone else a chance.

by chuck1ley on Nov 30, 2009 5:45 PM EST reply actions

Yeah thats a good option...

but who is left? We went from the mild mannered Tom Renney who barely showed emotion even when the Rangers were penalized what seemed like 100 times against Chicago last season to now the firey John Tortorella who wears his heart on his shoulder and will tell you how it is whether you want to hear it or not. Plus you can’t just give up on him so early on. Please nobody bring up the situation in Tampa last year with Melrose their were such extreme circumstances for that

by b4mv01 on Nov 30, 2009 6:13 PM EST up reply actions

Getting Painful!!

Went to the game on Friday in Tampa what a disgrace! I still believe in Torts as a coach, but even I have my limits. This is clearly a team that is thinking Way too much. I believe the reason that Torts is not going ape doodoo on the bench is that the team psyche is extremely fragile and could implode to even worse depths. We all have to remember Torts still doesn’t know these guys very well. If we have to take a step back this year to move two forward then so be it. I’m tired of 1st or 2nd round exists. I hope somebody takes out CINDY!!

by Rangers fan in Tampa on Nov 30, 2009 6:13 PM EST reply actions

My prediction was almost right……the Rangers went 2-2….before Pittsburgh and Gabby scored 5….I said he’d score 5 and they would go 1-3….against teams they should beat….the drubbing against the Pens only make an exclamation point that the Rangers are not ready to contend for anything.
