"TORONTO -- New York Rangers forward Dane Byers was suspended one game for his role in a fight during the third period of Monday's game in Vancouver.

The NHL announced the punishment Wednesday. Byers will forfeit $2,590 in salary to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Rangers coach John Tortorella was fined $10,000 because one of his players was deemed the instigator of the altercation. His fine goes to the NHL Foundation."

So why wasn't O'Brien punished too?

AH I see how the NHL operates, a guy gets into a fight with a willing partner gets suspended and his coach fined.

Yet another player who uses his stick to reach clear across to the opposing bench and uses it to poke at another has nothing happened to him?

Totally and completely dumb by Colin Campbell who shows that nobody can be more “clueless” than he is.

The suspension +fine is automatic

If you are assessed an instigator penalty in the last 5 minutes of a game. Had nothing to do with Campbell.

Another head-scratcher

Maybe Colin Campbell can explain how O’ Brien reaches across to the other bench and hits a player with his stick, but doesn’t get punished. Oh, that’s right. It’s Sean Avery. End of story.
