Please Sather, Say "No" to Forsberg

I just read the article about Petr Forsberg trying to come back to the NHL and Sather said that he would very much like to see him in a Rangers jersey. Please Please PLEASE say no. hes good no doubt about it, but hes not the Forsberg of yesteryear anymore. We've finally been doing better to bring up young people through our systems and trades, and adding an age old post prime player, would be something that would ruin the chemistry(in my opinion) we have a quick fast paced style now, and forsberg just doesnt have the legs to keep up with the likes of Lisin and Kotalik anymore. Lisin is arguably one of the fastest people on the ice when hes on, and unless we want alot of 2-2 rushes with forsberg trailing, i dont think he would find another place to work. We dont need a center, let alone a 3rd line center(which he would probably be behind Drury and Dubinsky) but Anisimov has been impressive and Boyle hasnt been a bad addition to our team. What we really need is a quality passing winger to take the place of Voros and get a good amount of assists and energy going. Voros just isn't supplying the same time of energy he did in years past. I think we need someone with the energy like we had with Jed Ortmyer where he would come on the ice and everyone would just rally behind him, but we need someone who can put up assists and goals when theyre needed like Prucha did in his first year.

But we really need to get past this whole 'Get players who are far past their prime just because they've had really good careers in the past' which Sather has become sadly notorious for doing through the years. Please stick to what you started Sather and find someone under the age of 30 who can still skate up and down the ice with pace.

I say yes to Forsberg

He has not played much in the past years due to his foot injury. So in essence, this could be a blessing in disguise. Foppa’s body is fresh. His is one of the best playmakers in NHL history and a Gaborik/Forsberg tandem will be dynamic.

A one year deal cannot hurt. Also, about team chemistry. Forsberg would be the last person on earth to ruin any chemistry that the team has created.

I say Yes 100 times to Forsberg.

The we finally have young players coming up through the system reason isn’t really valid at all when you consider Forsberg would likely be a couple month stop gap, would not be a long term deal and would not cost huge dollars. Very small gamble for a possible huge return. We aren’t talking about the Mets signing Gary Sheffield to a 5 year deal here to block Fernando Martinez.

We shouldn’t sign Forsberg because he can’t keep up with 2 guys who have been getting a lot of 4th line time? Who cares? Prospal isn’t a speedster, and he has been okay. The idea that Drury and Dubinsky are better then Forsberg, even Forsberg at the current level he is at, is laughable. Drury IS a 3rd line center. He is probably a 4th line center and PK’er at this point. He brings nothing else whatsoever to the team. Dubinsky has already lost his job as the first line center.

The whole old player thing doesn’t mean anything when it is a one year deal. And yeah, signing Shanny and Jagr worked out so horribly for the Rangers. I basically disagree with every single aspect of this post.

Forsberg hmm....

One year deal to push the team through the second half of the season and into the playoffs? Absolutely. Forsberg can’t possibly turn out worse than last season’s big trade that saw us lose Prucha, Dawes, and Kalinin for Derek Morris (not that I miss Kalinin but he had trade value at the very least). Forsberg undoubtedly won’t be as fast as he once was or as physical but his ability as a playmaker and what he could bring to the powerplay is definitely worth looking into. Gaborik and Forsberg sounds scary, or Forsberg could give the spark of life to some of the second liners.

Being prone to injuries is the only issue (other than the obvious lack of cap space issue), I would want the scouts to poke and prod his body like a frog in Biology class to make sure he can take the abuse of the NHL again. Throw Voros or Brash in the minors. Or deal away Roszival or Redden. Who knows? Maybe we could get a teddy bear out of the trade. And put skates on it and teach it how to protect the f*cking goalie.

lmao a teddy bear.

the truth is. the big 3 contracts. rozi redden and drury are really holding this team back.

with that amount of money we can bring in 2 all star dmen and another allstar to center gabs and prospal

LET'S GO RANGERS!!!

i wish we could just deal away drury and rozi. bring up sangs and bring in forsberg

Drury is a leader...he may not be a goal scorer anymore

but he’s an awesome PK’er and he’s the yin to Avery’s yang. Rozi can go but Drury stays bloated contract and all.

im sorry but i dont see drurys leadership. i really dont. plus im sure forsberg is just as good of a leader.

so pretty much were paying drury 7 mil to be a penalty killer.

"leadership:"

has no stat. There’s no way to see it.

Should he be producing more? Yea…it would make that contract look a bit better too of course.

But if the team calls him the leader…then you gotta go with it.

i was responding to the person above me.

what i meant was. id bet forsberg has the same or better leadership ability than drury.. just because someone wears a C doesnt mean their a leader. the guy barely talks.

hes not a bad player. its just another case of sather ridiculously overpaying drury. id pay drury 3.5 mil. thats about it

LET'S GO RANGERS!!!

by Moshe52792 on Nov 7, 2009 8:12 PM EST up reply actions

aiiiight.

agreed.

Drury is way overpaid.

Yet…the Rangers thought they were getting Sabres Drury (who…well he may have been worth $6.5..so the extra mil to pry him away).

I’d like to know what the hell is wrong with Dru? Keeps getting these nagging injuries or the semi-serious thing liks he’s got now…is it injuries?

I have a hard time believing that a guy like him was merely playing for a contract in Buffalo…he just doesn’t seem the sort.
