Rangers News: Brandon Dubinsky activated, Parenteau sent down

That's from Blue Notes the blog of Steve Zipay. Here are the highlights from the full story:

That was the lone bit of news from today's 40-minute practice. Dubinsky may still sit out tomorrow's game with the Thrashers to take a couple more days to prepare for his return from a broken hand, but John Tortorella decided to demote Parenteau, who had no points in his last eight games after doing well upon being recalled earlier in November.

Dubinsky will be among the top six forwards, obviously, but where is up in the air. Tortorella gave some indication today, saying that he may split up Vinny Prospal (0-3-3 in last 8) and Marian Gaborik and that Chris Drury (0-3-3 and minus-5 in last 8) is still an important player for the team.

Tortorella also indicated that Chad Johnson may get a game next week, possibly one of the back-to-back games with the Islanders.

Actually a pretty big surprise here, at least for me. I thought that P.A. Parenteau's game has been pretty good so far, but apparently he has not earned an extended stay with the big club. I was expecting Aaron Voros or Brian Boyle to be sent down (maybe even for cap reasons) but it's P.A that gets the axe. It's unfortunate, but at least he will keep Matt Gilroy company.

Regardless of who was sent down it's good to see that Brandon Dubinsky will be back. You will really be surprised how much better the Rangers play with him in the lineup, trust me. This might be the start to turning things around. Thoughts?

Aiight.

If the Rangers still stink with Dubi…they truly stink.

With him back here, we got a tough guy back in the lineup. I really hope they put him back on that top line, or at least he ends up there with Gabby and Prospal.

And yea,

PA is a surprise. I thought/hoped that any of the other dead weight was just sent somewhere other than the Rangers…

Put Prospal on Drury’s wing with Callahan.

Avery Dubinsky Gaborik
Prospal Drury Callahan
Higgins Anisimov Lisin
Boyle Christensen Kotalik/Brash

Johnson

I think Johnson had a decent preseason. I would definitely like to see him get a game in. As far as Dubinsky is concerned…..I think he should center prospal and gabby

prospal dubi gabby
higgin anisimov callan
avery drury lisin/kotalik
brash boyle voros/lisin

i think we gotta let anisimov play…he needs to get the experience…drury doesnt provide anything anymore except maybe some faceoffs…

gabs dubi higgins
prospal anisimov avery
cally drury lisin
kot boyle brash

higgins has been great with the first line but i really think that moving prospal away from gaborik might bring out the best in other players and give the rangers the secondary scoring that they need.

dubi

Dubi’s presense has to help. I’m concerned about Drury. Cally and Avery did some good things out there down low, but without much help from Chris. A decent center will make the wings look better and create scoring opportunities for them. Chris hasn’t provided such in a long time. I would like to know why. Certainly Drury can be counted on playing a sound defensive game, but lately puck management has been a big problem with him. Too many times he has been pick pocketed. Too many times a pass up the middle has been telegraphed making it easy to be intercepted. Too many times down low in our own end he tries to clear but ends up making a nice pass to the opposing team’s point men. And we pay this guy an insane amount of money to do these things! And then Torts has a hunch that Drury is due for a great play, but puts him out of his comfort zone manning the point on the PP late in last night’s game. Now I’m questioning the coach’s mind to boot.

Dubi is huge

I thought the rangers were coming out of their slump at the time Dubi and Drury got hurt. That is when they really tanked. I really think this will help a lot

Help me Bran-Don Dubinsky, you’re my only hope

by goodieNY on Dec 14, 2009 12:40 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

even if the points don’t start racking up immediately, dubinsky has been a crucial part of our first line, PK and PP. he’s our main faceoff guy (sorry vinny, captain.), hits harder than anoyne on the ice not named ryan callahan. i’m thrilled to have him back. i’m also glad he wasn’t rushed to return, because now we’re getting dubi back with no expectations whatsoever, we can only go up from where we’re at.

1st stop – .500 :)

Parenteau Waived - Dubinsky a 'game time decision'

Lines with Dubinsky being reported as:

Higgins Dubinsky Gaborik
Prospal Drury Callahan
Avery Anisimov Kotalik
Brashear Boyle Lisin

and D-pairs as
Staal Rozsival
Del Zotto Girardi
Redden Heikkinen

Clearly trying to get secondary scoring off the dime by putting Prospal with Drury/Callahan and Avery with Anisimov/Kotalik.

Shaking my head with Parenteau waived – when he gives the staff so much more flexibility over the perpetual ‘healthy-scratch’ Voros…. and he’s cheaper, on top of that…..
:shrugs: I just don’t get it.
