i think the only reason the rangers have drury on..
is cuz he can take faceoffs and play the pk…but i wish he was benched…f’in rangers…even though i have finals i still watch this pathetic team…i wonder what happens if they come out flat again tonight? i think torts will take drurys stick and beat him with it
by nutz_35 on Dec 17, 2009 6:46 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
He’s playing on the 4th line, I’d say that’s a pretty big demotion.
by KingHenrik on Dec 17, 2009 6:48 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
if ur going to stick him on the 4th line might as well scratch him and send the big message.
by mleetch352 on Dec 17, 2009 6:51 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Why what the hell is the difference? He kills penalties, it’s a usefull skill regardless of how much money the person who’s doing it is getting paid.
by KingHenrik on Dec 17, 2009 6:52 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I’d say being the captain of the team as well as one of the 3 highest paid players and having to play with Brash and Boyle at even strength is a pretty big message.
by KingHenrik on Dec 17, 2009 6:54 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
also i think that they need to have a captain on the ice NHL rules but im not to sure on that
by 8kpower on Dec 17, 2009 6:54 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
The Rangers went the first year of the lockout with no Captain what so ever, I think you just need 3 letters.
by KingHenrik on Dec 17, 2009 6:55 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
couple of teams have no captain now: Montreal, Florida didn’t for a while, technically Vancouver, Toronto
by cookin26 on Dec 17, 2009 6:56 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I never understood why you can’t declare your goalie as a captain.
by KingHenrik on Dec 17, 2009 7:02 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
i think cause they cant do like the ceremonial puck drop. and they cant argue calls or recieve explanations from the refs. things like that
LET'S GO RANGERS!!!
by Moshe52792 on Dec 17, 2009 7:04 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
i think because the goalie doesnt skate and cant cross into neutral zone and cant argue penalties with the refs
by 8kpower on Dec 17, 2009 7:04 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
is it because torts blew up in his press conference last night that everyone seems to be giving him a pass for the pathetic performance last night? anyone else think if they respected their coach or that fire he shows cussing at a press conference that performance doesnt happen in the first place?
by mleetch352 on Dec 17, 2009 6:49 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I don’t think Torts is getting a pass, not from the fans. But its still only been 60ish games, and I still think the GM is the bigger problem

Mentioned it earlier
Everyone blames Sather for this team and only a few are actually focusing on Tortorella. About 85/15 in terms of wanting them fired.
Once Sather’s gone, and the team doesn’t instantly turn around (which it won’t), that’s when the fire Torts stuff will start up full blast.

because you play the cards your dealt…it just so happens Torts was dealt a few rags and that he is pot committed to. thats my take on his situation right now

Baloney
Sitting Redden is evidence against that.
Either Tortorella thinks Rozsival is playing well or he’s not going everything in his power to deal with the situation.

i cant blame torts for this…i blame sather for straining us to the cap…if Rozsival made 3 million andthe same with drury and redden we would be singing a different tune
but due to sather giving them those large contracts he screwed this team cap wise
by b4mv01 on Dec 17, 2009 7:02 PM EST reply actions 0 recs

Are not the reason Higgins, Drury, Avery and Callahan are on pace for 40 goals or so.

Anyone think “benching” players now will make the players not want to be part of this team, if these new changes don’t work?

Depends
On how the players in the locker room feel about the guys that were benched.

Even if the players collectively feel they need to play better, no one wants to be benched. If nothing positive comes out of this, players could be asking to be traded.

I fear so desperately for Lundqvist. What goalie wants to play for a team like this, especially a goalie of his caliber? Judging from Redden’s reaction I think he definitely has a grudge going on.

Outplayed in 1st period, but managed to get 2 goals on 3 shots. Callahan (Prospal, Gaborik). Drury (Roszival, Avery). Callahan PP a(Gaborik, Roszival). Islanders got 4 on 4 goal in second after missing an open net when Lundqvist fell down outside crease. Exciting game so far.

2007/2008: Jaromir Jagr (25G 46A 71pts) lost in second round

its nice to see a powerplay that could actually function…we’ve always had a strong PK but to have a decent if not good power play is a nice addition

I’d love to hear someone disagree with me but Rozsival is playing like a 5 million dollar defensemen

sam just made a comment that was odd...he said that no one shows more leadership than henrik...thats not a neccesarily a good thing right?
by 8kpower on Dec 17, 2009 9:28 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
No its not cuz it should be coming from all angles but Henrik truly cares

Yea, that’s what I thought, but I was looking at the standings wrong and something didn’t add up.
by XLII on Dec 17, 2009 9:30 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
ok so gabby has 24 goals right? Who's next....Prospal or Cally now?
by giantsNYrangers on Dec 17, 2009 9:32 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
What a drop off XL huh? 24 to 9...
by giantsNYrangers on Dec 17, 2009 9:33 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Oh yea, look at a team like Washington and see how many players they have with double digit goals
by XLII on Dec 17, 2009 9:34 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Gaborik keeps this up but the rangers dont make the playoffs is he MVP?
by 8kpower on Dec 17, 2009 9:31 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Nope, I think the NHL MVP has to be on a playoff team
by XLII on Dec 17, 2009 9:32 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
even if he leads the league in goals and or points
by 8kpower on Dec 17, 2009 9:33 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
There are exceptions, but he’d have to be leaps and bounds in front of someone on a playoff team to win my vote
by XLII on Dec 17, 2009 9:34 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Thats a tuff one. He might win the scoring title but if they dont get in it'll be tuff to give him the MVP
by giantsNYrangers on Dec 17, 2009 9:32 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
what if
they get in but don’t make it to the finals? does he get the vote then?
by #17ToTheRafters on Dec 17, 2009 9:34 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
let’s assume they lose in 7 and he’s involved in 75% of the goals
by #17ToTheRafters on Dec 17, 2009 9:36 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Playoff performance is not supposed to weigh in on the regular season MVP vote, though I don’t know when the actual vote is
by XLII on Dec 17, 2009 9:36 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
if he leads in points and more importantly goals. than yes theres a good chance if he makes the playoffs
LET'S GO RANGERS!!!
by Moshe52792 on Dec 17, 2009 9:35 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
what happens in the playoffs doesnt really matter.
if he leads in points and goals, and the rangers make the playoffs, he gets it

but definately keep kotalik out of the philadelphia…dont even let him leave new york
by 8kpower on Dec 17, 2009 9:45 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
this game doesn’t really matter. we did gain some confidence but roloson and the isles D were pathetic. and no, redden and kotalik should not play next game. what kind of message would that send?
