Rangers News: Twitter Bits from today's practice

One day after being claimed off waivers from the Anaheim Ducks, Erik Christensen is practicing with the team, centering what appears to be the "third line" with Higgins on the left and Kotalik on the right.

Artem Anisimov is centering the rearranged top line with Prospal going back to left wing and Gaborik on the right. All those Artem fans - here's his chance.

Wade Redden is back practicing with the team.

At noon, everyone will know whether or not Steve Valiquette has been claimed off waivers or will be in Hartford. Once that happens Chad Johnson will be able to practice with the team (probably tomorrow).

Sources: Zipay/Gross and various other Twitter-ers...

Update: To many people's surprise (including mine) - Steve Valiquette has cleared waivers and will be reporting to Hartford.

Where is the source confirming Vally went to Hartford?

There was lots of speculation Vally would be picked up by the Leafs.

Then you’ll have to wait until they write one and post it.

Several ‘articles’ are now appearing.
Here’s one from Carpiniello:

I really did think someone would pick him up. He is a real emotional player but when he doesn’t let his anger/dissapointment/whatever kick in after giving up a goal he can be pretty good thanks to his size.

Vally seems like a great guy.

He’s constantly hosting goalie camps for the kids, always read to go no matter what, he sure had to battle his way to make it this far, plus I love the spiderman helmet.

However, I just don’t think he can handle play at this level unless he is with a defense-oriented team.

Nice to see Artem getting a chance on the top line. He probably won’t stay there too long, but it should be good experience.

Talking about Russian players….anybody a little disappointed with Grachev’s stats so far? I was expecting more production, but it’s still early in the season so maybe he wll pick it up

He had a slow start in the OHL last year and picked up once he got comfortable.

The “fly in the ointment” right now is the report that the Rangers are not releasing him to play for Russia in the World Juniors. That could be a huge mistake. Check out Laurie’s take at

thanks db….good read. And I do agree that they would be making a mistake in not letting him play. Representing one’s country is a huge deal and like the article said, if Russia does well it could really boost his confidence. Lets just hope he doesnt get pissed off at the Rangers and leave the organization….I would be crushed if that happened lol (i really would)

by MattPwrcf1 on Dec 3, 2009 5:04 PM EST up reply actions

Well – he really wants to play in the NHL. If that remains true, then it would be kind of crazy for him to bail.

I just don’t understand the “logic” here – what’s the downside to letting him go play ??
Very strange stuff, if you ask me.

I def am disappointed w/ Grachev stats so far Matt.

He had a killer season last year and I was very excited thinking he would make the team out of t.c. and when he didnt I thought well maybe he’ll sart the yr in Hartford and eventually get the call up. He has had a very slow start to the season and im hoping he will pick it up and get going here. im glad you brought it up bro…………….we’ll see, its not like he’s the only one w/ a slow start huh?

13 years? these long termcontracts in he NHL are ridiculous!

Didnt the Islanders learn their lesson with the retarded contract they gave Yashin way back when? Then they go and drop a 15 yr contract on Dipietro……lol. Do you think they are regretting that one? Load up the gun for Duncan…………!!
