Trade Specs: Frolov and 2nd Round Pick For Rangers 19th Overall and Lauri Korpikoski

Pure Speculation

I made a pitch for Frolov at this years trade deadline. He's a perfect fit for the Rangers as he's a big strong goal scoring winger who most importantly has low cap hit. Frolov has notched 30 or more goals twice in the past three seasons. He's believed to be available for trade and if the Kings do decide to go after Dany Heatley, there's little doubt Frolov would be involved. It should be said first that this trade is completely dependant on what direction Dean Lombardi is going to take the Kings this season. There was a wide spread rumor that he had traded his 5th overall pick and Jack Johnson for Chris Pronger but it was shot down by Lombardi himself. A trade of that magnitude would signal that the Kings are no longer rebuilding and looking to stockpile draft picks and young talent. However, if Lombardi is looking for one more year of development and rebuilding, this trade would be perfect sense.

The Kings would get the Rangers 19th overall pick which would give them two 1st round picks. They would also get Lauri Korpikoski who is a solid 3rd liner at this stage of his young career. There has been some talk amongst Rangers fans that Sather should trade down since they are in a weak draft position for what they need.

In return the Rangers would get Alexander Frolov who scored 32 goals this past season, more than anyone on the Rangers current roster. Most importantly though, the Rangers get cap friendly scoring depth. Frolov's cap hit is only $2.9 million (although his salary is $4 million for next season). The Rangers would also get the Kings 2nd round pick to go along with their own 2nd rounder that was given in compensation for Alexei Cherepanov.

Horrible trade offer

They wouldn’t do Korpedo and the 19th pick just for Frolov alone.

Not enough for Frolov. A defensive prospect of the Sauer kind would have to be included, plus an additional mid-late round pick.

That's not the offer that was speculated

The Rangers would get the Kings’ 2nd round pick as well.

Anyways, I’d pull the trigger on this one. I haven’t seen the development in Korpikoski that I would have liked. He’s talented, but probably won’t be more than a 20-25 goal scorer in this league at best. Frolov is a somewhat proven goal scorer, is young at the age of 26 and comes with a good cap hit. He also provides the size the Rags desperately need on the wing.

However, it probably won’t be enough for the Kings to go ahead with it.

I'd pull the trigger on this one in a heartbeat

This is assuming that Los Angeles actually has brain damaged monkeys running the organization.

No way

the Kings do this. Korpikowski hasn’t done much at all nor has he even showed that he’s the type of top level prospect that would be needed to pry Frolov from the Kings.

I doubt the Rangers would get back a 2nd rounder too.

Rangers would have to give up more. The Kings don’t have to throw in a 2nd rounder either, maybe just a mid level prospect (kinda like a Korpikowski).

Id love to get this done as soon as possible tho!

if our gm was anyone but sather

i’d have hope

instead, i’m figuring he’ll dump dubinsky and cally to make cap room for tkachuk and guerin
