2009 NHL Entry Draft Round One Open Thread
The first night of the draft has arrived, and I am up in Montreal at the Bell Centre sitting on press row with the other SBNation hockey managers. You will note in the left hand column there is a new section entitled "Live from the NHL Draft", I will be posting any stories and interviews in there, and I'll let you know in the open thread when something new is posted. Grab a beer, sit back and relax, and enjoy the draft!

Predictions Jim?
1) Jay Bouwmeester’s rights get traded from FLA to PHI for Danny Briere
2) Dany Heatley is traded to NYR for Nikolai Zherdev, Michal Rozsival, 19th overall pick.
3) Rangers do not draft in first round
4) Rangers draft 2 to 3 forwards.
5) Rangers draft a goalie
6) Islanders draft Matt Duchene (GM Garth Snow just might do it!) and is delivered with a greeting of boo’s from the Isles faithful. Team later moves to KC.
7) Lightning draft Victor Hedman.
8) Brian Burke offers his first born child for John Tavares but COL drafts him much to his chagrin.
9) Leafs Trade Kaberle and 7th overall pick for Phil Kessel.
10) Rangers acquire Ryane Clowe for Brandon Dubinsky – more likely, Leafs acquire Clowe. So two predictions in one.
Here’s the thing, if the Rangers are making a deal, its either done, or its going to happen quickly
The Ranger brass is not here yet, theirs is the only empty table on the floor right now, that could mean something

my wife thinks it's funny his last name is similar to mine
and they’re reporting a deal, details coming soon
This from a man who thinks the plural of goose is sheep.
As per the NHL
NHL Central Scouting’s Gary Eggleston
“Chris is an excellent skater with explosive speed and acceleration. His short-distance speed is exceptional. He sees the play ahead of time and knows what he’s going to do with the puck as soon as he gets it. He is an excellent passer and playmaker. His foot speed, combined with his anticipation and quick stick, gives him the ability to create turnovers and gain puck possession. He is a constant threat to develop breakaways on the penalty-killing unit. He has both an excellent wrist and slap shot, which he disguises well and releases quickly. He can score goals in a number of ways.”
I'd prefer a winger
But good size and speed is necessary up front, no matter what slot
