"We got two hot meals a day, we got a great practice facility, we got limos flying all over the place, we got New York City, the theaters, I need this, I need that, it’s time to put your hand, instead of asking for more, take it away and start getting things done."

Torts doesn't get it
The Rangers organizational philosophy is to be “first class all the way”. This goes from the players accommodations, to travel, to marketing. If he wants to work for an organization where employees are seen as valueless and everyone is afraid of the boss he should apply for the Devils opening.
Players specifically come to the Rangers to be pampered. I’m not saying it’s right or the best thing for the on ice product, but this it’s a big reason why veterans are drawn here. If he’s going to try to fight this approach, he’s fighting a losing battle. And the players will him run out of town the way they did in Tampa Bay.
I Disagree

This is the NHL, not a day spa. Sure, the Rangers are a “first class” organization (all NHL teams have basically the same travel accommodations and such), but what matters is what you prove on the ice. He’s trying to instill some early accountability in the bunch, and I don’t mind that whatsoever.

That's not the point
The Rangers as an organization treat its players like they are staying at the Four Seasons but Tortarella wants to coach them like they are staying at a Red Roof Inn. I’m not saying Torts is wrong, or that I disagree with him, but it a recipe for disaster.
Like it or not, the Rangers organization provides a cushy lifestyle for its players, and they in turn come to expect cushy treatment. Now the players boss is going to be up their ass and it is going to wear thin very quickly. This type of coaching philosophy is at odds with Rangers organizational philosophy. It didn’t work with Keenan (Messier and Campbell were pretty much running the locker room in 94). Hell, it didn’t work with Robbie Ftorek when the Devils players ran him off the bench and that organization is much better suited to that style.
Again, it’s not that Tortarella is right or wrong. It just seems to be at odds with how this organization is run. (And I’m not defending how this organization is run.)
