NHL News: Brent Sutter to step down as Devils head coach
TSN is reporting that New Jersey Devils head coach Brent Sutter is stepping down as head coach. here is the full story:
Highlights:
"Sources confirm to TSN that the New Jersey Devils will announce today that head coach Brent Sutter is stepping down, citing personal and family reasons. Sutter has a year left on his contract with New Jersey.
If Sutter is to become a candidate for the vacant Calgary Flames' head coaching position, the Flames would have to ask permission from New Jersey Devils' GM Lou Lamoriello to speak with Sutter."
This might be a move to get Sutter to be a canadate to coach in Calgary. Rumors surfaced that this might happen a few weeks ago and now it seems to be coming to life. Sutter has one year left on his contract with the Devils.

Seems kind of strange, the Devils have been out of the playoffs for over a month, and now 17 days before the draft Lou has to start looking for another coach.

Good, maybe he will spend too much time looking for a coach, and no time looking at the fact that Jiri Hudler (RFA) may become available if the Wings sign Hossa long term. It’s a big IF, but hey, it’s the offseason, and I needed something to write about lol.

I clicked post too soon.
I also wanted to add that I stopped doubting Lou, he’s one of the top GMs in the game. I hate it, but he is.

without question, its amazing how thru coaching change after coaching change, and defection after defection (many through the Lincoln tunnel) the Devils rarely lose a step.

It’s because they know how to draft. I mean, Parise was what, #26, in that draft?
It also doesn’t hurt to have Brodeur in net.
Or Clemmenson?

No Brodeur doesn’t hurt. Don’t remind me about Parise, that was the Hugh Jessiman year.
Of the 30 players taken five years ago, Jessiman is the only player to never have appeared in an NHL game. (If you want to torture yourself with the names of players taken after Jessiman, here are a few: Zach Parise, Ryam Getzlaf, Mike Richards, and Brian Boyle)

Don’t worry, I’ve already written a piece about that horrible draft like 5 months ago….I think I cried while writing it.

Most people saw this coming a while ago
He was never really happy in New Jersey. He also struggled to get the players to buy into the more wide open system he wanted to play and reverted to a counter attack style.
Lou changes couches like he changes underwear so this shouldn’t be a problem for him.

Any word if the devils will ask for compensation IF Calgary signs him to coach there?
I find sometimes it's easy to be myself
sometimes I find it's better to be somebody else
