Hockeys Future's interview with Evgeny Grachev

The following is an interview held between hockeysfuture.com and New York Rangers prospect Evgeny Grachev. Also just for your information they have him listed as our third overall prospect. (Artem Anisimov and MDZ are the top two...strangely Ryan McDonough is 35th overall and Matt Gilroy is 27th) Okay enough side tracking here is the interview... Well on further examination of the interview I came upon this little information...

So instead of getting in a ridiculous amount of trouble I will just post the link (I didn't see anywhere that says I couldn't do that) (INTERVIEW)

maybe because if you look at the list it would strike you that it is alphabetical in the notables section…

The reason that McDonagh/Williams are not ranked in numbers along with any of the draft picks from this year is because there has been no rankings update since any of that happened. check the list in the fall before the season. McDonagh will slot in around 3-4, Williams probably around 8 and not sure if they will rank Gilroy based on age but he would probably be at a similar spot to Williams, though i would rank him ahead of Sauer.

agreed

they aren’t even in the Rangers system yet to compare with these guys.

I don’t know if the Habs system is any better than the Rangers, or worse, but if McDonough was their top defensive prospect then I don’t think he could be 35!!! overall with the Rangers.

Maybe behind Sags and MDZ, (wait, Staal…, Sags, MDZ, Mcdounoughghgh, Girardi, Sauer, Gilroy?? WOW?!! Stacked much?)

by FreeBradshaw on Jul 20, 2009 10:23 PM EDT up reply actions

they will redo the rankings preseason. McDonagh was not the Canadiens top D prospect, he was there top prospect period.

I expect preseason to be Artem, McDonagh, MDZ, Grachev, Sangs, Stepan, Gilroy, Sauer, Byers, Williams, Kundratek. It is possible that Kreider or Werek could be in the top 10 if it is purely based on potential and not factored in proximity to broadway.

I put McDonagh 2nd because he was ranked 18th overall on the hockeys future top 50 earlier this year and i do believe he was around 30 by THN, so he could be number 1 even.

McDonagh will be the #1 prospect

HF ranks the top 50 prospects across all organizations and McDonagh (18) is ahead of Artem (30), Del Zotto (40), and Grachev (43). If I understand HF’s rating system correctly, Nigel Williams, recently acquired from Colorado, will be 6th, after Sangs and Stepan, and Gilroy will be 8 or 9, right around where Sauer is. The organization as a whole will likely rank very highly.

Look for a big trade. Stocking up for bait?

by NYdemo on Jul 21, 2009 2:35 PM EDT up reply actions

why trade them?

I mean look at that D rotation?

The Red Wings always seem to have a top flight D rotation no matter who they send out there, but aside from Lindstrom they are mostly FA from outside the org.

Can you see how building with Staal, Girardi, McDonough, MDZ, Sanguinetti, and probably Gilroy for now? WOW!!!!!

by FreeBradshaw on Jul 21, 2009 4:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Didn't say "I want a trade"

Hey, I didn’t say I want a trade, I merely pointed out that it looks like their stocking up trade bait. I’m patient enough to cheer on a rebuilding effort but:

To answer your question and play Devils advocate for a minute…So if I look at the D, what do I see? A couple of overpriced, barely capable, veterans, a couple of solid young guys and unproven prospects. Certainly not what Detroit wins cups with.

I can see building around the youth, but is that what this organization typically does? So now, I feel we’re going to see a few of those prospects(and a starter) moved for a “proven” commodity.

Yeah that is true. Alot of the guys in the notable section are new to our system and probably not easily comparable to our guys. Also I find it funny that I did not pick up on the alphabetical order in the notable section.

interestingly boring

i like the prospect rankings and all but that interview was pretty boring. while i read it, i loved seeing him say he wanted to play in america, but i found it interesting that NO ONE stood out. Thats not a great sign. Ryan Bourque had a nice little goal during a scrimmage shown on the rangers website.
I want grachev to be a blue chipper SO bad. The rangers need someone to come up through their system and be an offensive force. Then we as fans have some ground to stand on when people bitch that we buy all our talent.
We got hank, staal and hopefully grachev. it would be nice.
the boring part was just that grachevs interview showed a boring personality, but hes still learning the language and all so whatever.
side note… i think him playing on the third line would be a waste of ice time for him. He needs lots of minutes and PP time. hartford will prep him well unless he Blows everyone away at training camp this fall.(hopefully he does)

Wow!!!

Dude… if you are going to be a blog writer, it would be smart to do some digging around before you add an entry to your blog. The fact that you actually thought McDonagh was 35th overall (by adding 17 and 18 nonetheless)… blows my mind. And it has nothing to do with whether they are comparable as the other commenter stated. The webmaster of the site just places new draft picks and recently acquired prospects into the ‘notables’ section until the Rangers writer for HF recreates the ‘top prospects’ list, which is only done a couple times a year. McDonagh will definitely be #1 when the new list is created and he will be joined in the ‘top prospects’ list by Gilroy, N.Williams, Kreider, Werek, Bourque and even likely Valentenko and Boyle.

it was a simple mistake. I didn’t notice it was alphabetical order…so what. Its not like you haven’t made obvious mistakes.

Stupid

Thats stupid putting McDonagh that low along with Gilroy haha it almost makes me feel as though the credibility of this article is worth nothing……

and the fact you didnt read the comments to know why the appearance is not factual makes me question your credibility.
