Someone tell me why Zherdev is on the Rangers roster on the official website?

A late entry
Bobby Carpenter… cost us Mike Ridley and Kelly Miller who were young building blocks in the mid-eightes with Tomas Sandstrom and the not so distant arrival of Brian Leetch and Mike Richter. They both went on to very solid careers in Washington and Carpenter was traded to LA after 28 games for Marcel Dionne. Honorable mentions: Normand Rochefort, Stephane Quintal, and Igor Ulanov.
