NHL News: Sergei Zubov headed for KHL?

Photo

Looks like those of us who wanted a Sergei Zubov reunion on Broadway (including yours truly) may be out of luck.

According to Beyond the Blueshirts, a report on Russian Sports Website Sports Express says Zubov is close to signing a deal with SKA St.Petersburg of the KHL.

As always, Beyond the Blueshirts is second to none in finding these stories from overseas and posting them up.

I thought Zubov would have been a nice addition to help on the power play for a year, and help in grooming the young defensive prospects in the Rangers stable. Looks like we may never know.

UPDATE: It's official, TSN is reporting Zubov has signed the deal

Well,

it was a matter of time before he went back to “The Motherland” to finish his career. I was just really hoping he would make a brief stop back in New York before going there. It would have been great to see him mentoring our young defense core and teaching some of our prospects a thing or two.

On the other hand this deal is not official and their may be a chance he does make a stop back in NY

I'm hoping Sather is more worried about

Dubinsky than Zubov right now.

I hope...

That Zherdev gets awarded around 3.5 to 3.75and the Rangers accept it and trade him away and a prospect or pick for a Center to play with Gaborik. Now i know you all say that Dubinsky can play with Gaborik but wasn’t Gomez or Drury supposed to play with Jagr? I just want to air on the side of caution.

The problem is

There aren’t alot of talented centers that are readily available for a disgruntled work ethic questionable RW.

Kessel would make sense but the Bruins are looking to unload him as a cap dump. Ditto Patrick Sharp. Brad Richards and Marleau can probably be had but they make too much money. Who else is out there?

On another note, if they somehow found 3.5m – I’d rather see them make a play for Tanguay, a ppg game with PP skills who already found his potential and doesn’t already play a postion that the rangers have quality in.

zubov as a 7th defenseman isnt too bad but dubinsky and zherdev are the rangers priority right now

has anyone watched msg this morning…they have the rangers pens game last year where zherdev tied the game up with 8 seconds left…what a nice shot…i watched the whole game cuz its the first time ive seen hockey in a couple of months…just gotta say…prucha gave it all on every shift…renney was an idiot for benching him so much

nashville has interest in zherdev

according to eklund nashville has interest in zherdev but then again…eklunds rumors are always wrong

by nutz_35 on Jul 30, 2009 1:01 PM EDT reply actions

basically your headline reads:

nashville has no interest in zherdev

I'm starting to believe

that the Rangers are done making moves.

Dubinsky, (Zherdev?), and prospects- final out our team.

trades are, and always will be unexpected.

I feel that one more move is coming to add a little size to our defense. I’m not sure that Torts is going to feel comfortable having two rookies on our back end.

Plus i think the Rangers are going to decide what to do with Zherdev before they sign Dubinsky. If Zherdev gets a one year deal that the Rangers may be able to afford then I think Dubinsky will accept a cheaper contract to help the team out and then get his raise next season when Zherdev’s contract ends…again

by b4mv01 on Jul 30, 2009 1:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Isn’t it still surprising Dubinsky has no contract though? What exactly have the Rangers still been waiting for… after everything that they’ve been waiting for already, passed?

I am definitely surprised but like I said in my above comment…i think Glen has asked him to hold on for a little bit until the Zherdev situations gets taken care of

Nashville

I guess it makes sense they’d want Zherdev’s rights to lure his best friend Radulov back. If Zherdev gets awarded 3.5-3.7 I’d welcome him back, I’d love a third line of Anisimov Lisin and Zherdev.

what if zherdev does get signed by the rangers for 3.75 mill….and they dont make a trade…who doesnt make the team…lisin? unless they put one of them on the 4th line which wouldnt make any sense…i just don’t see zherdev on the team anymore

Just an update

It’s now confirmed that Zubov signed w/ the KHL team he was rumored to this morning

I am a little suprised Zubov made this move. I thought he would have tried to stay in the NHL for a bit longer, but I guess not.

Well, I wish Sergei the best

It was a pleasure to watch him with the puck. Such great passes.

Lopez wants it away, and it's hit deep to left center, Andruw Jones on the run, this one has a chance... home run!!, Mike Piazza!, and the Mets lead 3 to 2!!

Many like me didn’t know (or forgot) he lead the team over Leetch in points during the 94 season (I was too young). Definitely was an excellent player.

"Malik now." "6 foot 6, 238, not a noted goal scorer but he's gonna give it a shot here." "Malik has not scored this year. In on Kolzig, faked it....SCORES"
