Rangers News: Christopher Higgins signed...
The report from the Rangers main page...
"New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with restricted free agent forward Christopher Higgins.
Higgins, 26, was acquired by the Rangers, along with Ryan McDonagh and Pavel Valentenko, from the Montreal Canadiens, in exchange for Scott Gomez, Tom Pyatt and Mike Busto on June 30. He has skated in 282 regular season contests with Montreal, recording 84 goals and 67 assists for 151 points, along with 96 penalty minutes. The 6-0, 205-pounder has eclipsed the 20-goal mark three times.
In 2007-08, he established career-highs in games played (82), goals (27), assists (25), points (52), power play goals (12), game-winning goals (five), and shots (241). He led Montreal in shots, tied for second on the team in power play goals and game-winning goals, and ranked third in goals. He was also one of only three Canadiens to skate in all 82 games during the season. Higgins registered 11 points (six goals and five assists) in the first 13 games of the season, and went on to surpass the 20-goal plateau for the third straight year.
Higgins appeared in 57 games with the Montreal Canadiens this past season, registering 12 goals and 11 assists for 23 points, along with 22 penalty minutes. He tied for second on the team with two shorthanded goals, and placed sixth on the club with 151 shots despite missing 25 games due to injury. In addition, he led the Canadiens in goals (five) and shots (40) during the month of November. He tallied his first career hat trick on November 11 vs. Ottawa to cap off a season-high, four-game scoring streak that began on November 1 at the New York Islanders, registering six points (four goals and two assists) over the span.
As a rookie in 2005-06, he led Montreal with three shorthanded goals. In addition, Higgins has registered six goals and five assists for 11 points in 22 career postseason contests with Montreal.
The Smithtown, New York, native was originally Montreal’s first round choice, 14th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft."
So far the terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Thanks! I’ve been reading here for a few months. Great coverage and I think it’s excellent you guys got to scope out the Draft.
"Malik now." "6 foot 6, 238, not a noted goal scorer but he's gonna give it a shot here." "Malik has not scored this year. In on Kolzig, faked it....SCORES" - The climax of a magical 2005-2006 season that lead to their first playoff appearance since 1997.
I sit in 311 for season tickets and its about 4000 for both

hey Stroker.....
I like all of your teams right down the line!! But I cant believe there are Ranger fans out there that dont like what Sather has done here in the last week or so. That blows my mind! Sather basically turned Scott Gomez and his dead wood game with his totally overblown contract into a solid, young ,local winger who can score goals and works hard. And throw in Montreals top prospect to boot! That scenario right there would be huge enough on it’s own, but then to be able to turn around and acquire an amazing sniper just entering his prime w/ the loot you would of paid to gomez.?!!!!!!! I didnt believe there was a GM out there worse than Sather. Thank god for Gainey. Love ya Bob! And I know the knock w/ Gaborik’s health is a fact that is a concern. That’ll make the difference between this making the signing good or bad ultimately in the end. But you know what? High risk, high reward. And I believe the 1yr deal makes Higgens an UFA next year though. I might be wrong on that. But either way and it’s difficult for me to say this but…………good job Glen.
Maybe there’s no reason to worry, but I’m feeling uneasy without Dubinsky and Callahan locked up yet. People have different opinions of what to do with Zherdev and Korpikoski, but I think fans as a whole want Dubi and Cali locked up.

Dont worry Calm Down
Dubi and Cali arent going anywhere bro…………………………
I’m new on here,I’ve been lurking for a couple weeks, and really like the posts I read, specifically…giantsNYrangers…it’s nice to see someone with a positive outlook on the moves that have been made.Too many fans are going straight to the negative with Gaborik without him even lacing up! I’ve been on a few different fan sites, dont post much, but alot are just bashing on every single thing to the point you’d think you were on a Devils site.
Anyway,great site,good reading.
Hey jm82
Thanx for taking the time to read my post. Why are so many Ranger fans so pecemistic with these moves? Anybody with half a brain would agree that what Sather was able to do here was nothing short of miracle work! Not only did he address our biggest need and totally upgrade the roster while adding scoring power. He added an elite defensive prospect and left us with alot of cap room which gives us flexibility to make more moves in the future if need be. Anybody who cant see that is a retard plain and simple. What people resent though I think is, everytime you think Sather has basically ran out of time and we hope his firing is right around the corner, he pulls a move like this that buys him some more time. Ughhhhhhhh……………….I dont know but, LETS GO RANGERS!!!!!!!!!! Is it October yet?
