Rangers Rumor: Korpikoski Konsidering KHL?
Now, seeing as how I don't speak Swedish, and had to rely on the integrity of an online translator, at the moment let's take this with a grain of salt, but according to Swedish Hockey website aftonbladet.se, Lauri Korpikoski may be considering a jump to the Kontinental Hockey League. If you understand Swedish, feel free to click that link and tell us exactly what it says. If not then here is what I was able to devise:
Timra is looking to replace Mika Pyorala, and may do so with Lauri Korpikoski. The article says the Rangers want to keep Korpikoski, but made him a lowball offer, and that he has allegedly received an offer from the KHL.
If I understand it right, the offer is $1.5M a year.
The article also says Korpi is good friends with former Ranger Jarkko Immonen
That's the best I can do guys, but it doesn't take a perfect translation to see this may not be good news.

No that is definitely not good news. I do doubt though that he would leave for the KHL so early on in his career.

Low ball offer? The kid was qualified at roughly $1 million.

a lowball offer of one million...
i wish i get an offer of like $60,000 lol. Thats why I hate some players its about money (insert marian hossa) but players like (how dare I say this…Scott Stevens and Martin Brodeur) actually play for millions less then they would have been paid had they gone into the market and looked for better offers

I don;t understand th Hossa bashing
He’s obviously ALL about winning.
Why would he sign a 1 year deal with the Wings? He got to the Cup too in doing it. They took it 7 games TOO!
He did sign a gargantuan contract (what human being would NOT?) for 12 years, but the Blackhawks are one of the best young teams in the game.
Again why not?

lets not act
like the contract with chicago was a self sacrifice since it is really 8 years at 53 mil with 4 BS years added to lower the cap figure when hossa wont be playing anymore.
Hossa did take less money last year to get a shot at the cup, which was admirable, well maybe not less money but less security in the dollar figures, but he got paid now.

Keep in mind, my “lowball” statement was an attempt to paraphrase what I was reading from a Swedish translator
My extent of Swedish before today was the Muppets chef, “Bork Bork Bork!”

Hossa
BDMV01 – Actually last season Hossa walked away from about $80M so that he could sign a one year deal w/ the Wings for a shot at the Cup. He’s one of the only superstars in recent years who hit UFA status and did that.

OK
But the guy wanted to win last season he said. And he admitted this season once he heard the dollar figure from Chicago that he decided that is where he was going.

Uh, Chicago has a very good shot at a Cup during the life of that contract.
They are set up front with Kane, Toews, Hossa, Versteeg, etc.
They are set on the blueline with Campbell, Keith, Barker, and….I’m forgetting someone here, help me out please?
The only question is Huet.

but they have no chance at retaining both Kane and Toews next season without a significant salary dump. One of them will be signed to an offer sheet and Chicago will have to take the compensation picks for them.
PS your forgetting Dustin Byfuglien

Expect them to dump Campbell during the offseason. It should clear enough room to buy a year or two, like what the Rangers did with Hank.

His qualifying offer was $1.03 million (a 5% raise on his $984k last season).

All I really have to say is at $1.03 million Korpikoski should thank the stars. Flashes of promising talent but always invisible.

They should let him walk for trying to score on his own goalie in that picture.

Well it certainly frees up some cap space and a spot for someone from the system to make the big club. I got the impression that Torts was not a big fan of Korpikoski.

Right, let’s give up on the 23 year old 1st round draft pick because he didn’t put up numbers while on the 4th line in a Renney system.

Oh God.................When, if ever
are we gonna actually see a Rangers 1st rd pick blossom into a solid hockey player like a Jeff Carter did this year for the flyers? The guy pumped home like 46 or 48 goals. Is it the scouting dept? Or is it the developmental system? Besides Staal, when was the last time the Rangers actually drafted, and developed a legitimate 1st rd star? Boys, we gotta go all the way back to Brian Leetch maybe cuz nobody is coming to mind here. Do you realize that Hugh Jessiman was the only player from his draft class not to play a single game in the NHL? THE ONLY PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im totally disgusted.

aw christ..
Yes, it really is pathetic. We really havent had the best of any luck with first round draft picks. Hugh Jessiman, Malhotra, Brendl, Lundmark, Montoya, Cherneski,Cloutier even Korpikoski. It’s been pretty horrible.
by easygents on Jul 8, 2009 6:02 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I would probably say Kovalev was the last.
Im also sick of acting like the scouting department is the same as the one that made most of those drafts. In the last 5 years we have picked Staal, Sanguinetti (dont know if he turns out), Chere who would have been if he didnt pass away, MDZ who everyone things will be very good in a year or two, and Kreider who is a project that is 3 years away.
That said, why is the 1st round the only one that is important…
Lundy 7th round
Dubi 2nd round
Cally 4th round
Artem 2nd round
Grachev 3rd round
Stepan 2nd round
Girardi undrafted
not to mention we had plenty of prospects who we traded and then were excellent players:
Amonte
Zubov
Weight
Marchant (no star but very solid)
Marc Savard
Zidlicky
Tyutin

I know mleetch
Im just concentrating on our 1st rd picks. We have had better luck or more success should I say with our later rounds and they do say that the backbone of your team is built thru 2nd day picks. But it just boggles my mind to not be able to come up with anything consistently yr after yr, draft after draft in the 1st rd when the 1st rd IMO is easier to evaluate cuz the talent is more clear cut as opposed to later rounds when your looking for hidden gems. I mean come on, the law of averages would have come into play here or there sooner or later………………….no?
