Marian Gaborik: Last of the Original Wild
Jim Souhan of the Star Tribune has a nice piece about Marian Gaborik saying goodbye in St. Paul.
Souhan's article references the strained relationship between Gaborik and Wild management (both front office and Lemaire), which is hardly earth-shattering news. But it also serves to highlight a level of maturity on Gaborik's part. Instead of signing a big contract and saying "so long," he took the time out to thank the organization and - more importantly I say - the community for supporting him throughout his nine-year career.
This does not necessarily change my opinion of Gaborik one way or another - after all, I'm still excited to see a healthy Gaborik don the blue sweater this fall - but it is a nice touch. Plus, it is far more relaxing than reading about Korpikoski's potential move to the KHL or the ongoing Zherdev discussion.

Gaborik
Seeing Gabz in the Blue does feel good considering if he is healthy he could put up as much as Crosby or Datsyuk in terms of OFFENSE, thats what we’ve been waiting. I too agree that this Zherdev talk is a little annoying, i cant wait for him to be traded or leave in free agency because he can play like St. Louis one day and St. Nik the next when he laxidasily roams the ice. Lets move on from this guy already.

I understand the Zherdev thing is getting old, but its a constant topic, so we’re obligated to bring it up for discussion. Look at it this way, one way or the other it will be settled very soon, and we can go back to talking about the death of Michael Jackson

I think that the big thing with Zherdev, though, is an age issue. The guy is still just 24 years old. What’s the potential for him to actually develop under a full season of Torts after some growing pains? My tendency is to think that if he’s acting this way in contract negotiations, he clearly thinks he’s better than he is and might get really put off by Torts’ style – especially considering that Hitchcock’s similar style in Columbus really turned Zherdev off.
