Rangers News: Rangers Make It Official, Vinny Prospal Signed
Here is the official press release from Rangers.com
New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent forward Vinny Prospal.
"Vinny is a highly-skilled player with good offensive instincts and the ability to play on the wing or at the center position," stated Sather. "We think he will give us added flexibility and brings a veteran presence to our lineup."
Prospal has eclipsed the 20-goal mark four times, including a career-high 33 goals in 2007-08, and has recorded two career hat tricks. He has also surpassed the 70-point plateau three times, and is one point shy of 600 career NHL points and two goals from reaching 200 career goals.
The 6-2, 198 pounder has skated in 874 regular season contests with the Philadelphia Flyers, Ottawa Senators, Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Anaheim Ducks, recording 198 goals and 401 assists for 599 points, along with 473 penalty minutes. Prospal has skated in 80 or more games in each of the last seven seasons. In 2007-08, he established career-highs in goals (33) and game-winning goals (five), and tied his career-highs in games played (82) and power play goals (10). He led Philadelphia in goals, and ranked second on the team in shots (215), and third in points (71) and assists (38). He also tied for third on the club in power play goals and game-winning goals.
His most productive season was in 2005-06, when he registered a career-best 80 points (25 goals and 55 points) with Tampa Bay. He also established career-highs in shots (236), power play goals (10) and multi-point games (24). Prospal tied the Lightning record for longest point streak, recording a point in 13 consecutive games from October 26 to November 20 (eight goals and 13 assists).
Prospal appeared in 82 games with Tampa Bay last season, registering 19 goals and 26 assists for 45 points, along with 52 penalty minutes. He ranked fourth on the team in assists, tied for fourth in points and finished fifth in goals. He also ranked third on the Lightning in scoring during the month of January (six goals and eight assists), and was one of only two players on Tampa Bay to appear in all 82 games.
Prospal recorded a season-high, seven-game scoring streak from December 30 against Montreal to January 12 at Los Angeles, collecting nine points (three goals and six assists) over the span. In addition, Prospal recorded his 400th NHL assist on March 7 against Carolina.
Prospal also captured a bronze medal with the Czech Republic at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy, tying for the team-lead with four goals and finishing third on the club with six points.
The Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic native was originally Philadelphia’s third round choice, 71st overall, in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.
There you go boys and girls, its official.

Great signing but.......
This doesn’t look good for duby. You think there is still a chance that duby signs even with the cap the way it is now? I just don’t get it. Duby isn’t an experiment like zherdev was. You know this kids gonna be good. I like the offseason sather has had and prospy is a good add but if he trades duby he gets an F for letting a hard working home grown kid walk into another franchises dressing room.

vinny prospal.
things with dubi must be getting hasty slats is lowballing him. look duby is worth no more then1.5 mil a year if he is looking for more then that then heu kid stay home you are not the second coming of adam graves . as far as prospal i guess he will fit in good he can help the pp and maybe the pk i am not crazy about it we shall see…
Prospal-
Honestly, did we really need this guy? Are we back to signing 34 yr old free agents? Get Dubinsky signed and we are set! We added Gaborik! That would be enough for most teams! They should have dumped Wade “I forgot how to play hockey” Redden! And added a veteran Defenseman to help out the amazing young Blueliners we have instead of signing Prospal- Just a head-shaker for me. Seems like a waste of funds. Could have sealed Dubinsky up for a 3-5 yr deal instead. I hope he did not sign Prospal to let Duby walk and lose another talented young forward for an aging 2nd or third liner. We shall see!
Go Rangers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The money they are paying Prospal is minimal, I think you are getting a little too worked up over it. He’s a scorer, and he came cheap

Prospal-
I just think that they could have given a rookie a chance at a roster spot, which is now -1 due to the prospal signing. Just do not want to see them go back to the over 30 Ranger club from years past..
Need to get that Duby signing done though! I’ve been a huge Ranger fan for over 20 years now, since they were on ch. 9 (WWOR) . Can’t help the “getting worked up” part. Any thoughts on Redden??

By the way, welcome to Blueshirt Banter, I hope you know I’m just giving you a hard time. Don’t worry about the Prospal signing, he can pay big dividends at a very low price

this is a good signing. one of the better contracts on our team right now. also, i like the fact that vinny’s an ‘older’ hockey player. he has plenty of playoff experience, which we obviously lacked last year and the year before that. i like him on a line with cally and drury. i don’t think that we’ll see much of vinny on the 1st line but time will tell.
its good to see that everyone’s stressing out over dubi. brandon really helped himself in that dreadful caps series. he was our 3rd best player on the ice (hank, avery). he’s also a fan’s and a coach’s player. i think both torts and sather know he deserves a contract. i highly doubt him not getting signed.

I love that we are considering a 34 year old an “older player” when just two years ago we had Straka, Jagr, Drury, Shanny and “your not good enough to play on my team” Nylander, Malik (I believe), plus whoever else we had at that time over 30
now the over 30 players are "what the hell were you thinking Glen when you gave him this contract Redden, Drury and now Vaclav Prospal. I do believe Sather is giving the team to the younger players…took you long enough Glen.
