Sunday Banterings

Well Jim isn't here so I will be taking over the "Bantering rights" to this week. So here we go:

Hockey related Bantering:

  • I think that as more time goes on and the more Heatley talks to the media the more Murray probably wishes he accepted the Rangersoffer of Zherdev and Rozsival for Heatley. People said him not trading Heatley by the time his bonus would do would bite Murray in the rear and it really has.
  • Anyone else think the Islanders are signing so many goalies so that they can see who to hire as their next GM?
  • I checked around the internet for a "toughest places to play in the NHL" list and found two on bleacherreport. Neither of them had MSG in the rankings. What a joke. I will go more in debth on this in a story later in the week, but to have MSG off the list is wrong. We are one of the few fan bases that stick with our team no matter how they are doing, and we are incredibly loud.
  • Man Kane is really playing the innocence role now isn't he. I'm not buying it, are you?
  • We are doing a fantasy hockey league for the Banter and I got to thinking about the first overall pick. If you had to choose who would you take? Me? Ovechkin.
  • Out of all the Ranger prospects not playing in the AHL I am most looking foward to Grachev and Stepan. You?

Now onto some non-hockey things:

  • I feel that I should explain this now before the NFL season starts. I live in New York but my cousins from Philadelphia got me into football. So by nature I am an Eagles fan, but my father is a huge Giants fan. As a result I am an Eagnts fan lol. I rooted for the Giants when they won the super bowl, and I rooted for the Eagles after they beat the Giants last year. As for who I rooted for during the game? The Eagles. I know it's like being a Ranger and an Islander fan but what can I say I am who I am.
  • While on the NFL does anyone find it wrong that Burress will spend 2 years in jail for shooting himself in the leg while Stallworth gets 30 days for killing someone while driving drunk?
  • Also on the NFL I know what Vick did was a horrible and atrocious act but other players have done worse, much worse, and are loved and not even questioned.
  • Man the Giants look terrible in their second pre-season game.
  • If you haven't been watching it then you better start watchin LOST. One of the best shows ever ... period.
  • A little info for you all about me. You know the show "Ice Road Truckers" I helped cast for that show at my internship with Pangolin Pictures. I wonder how they are doing now?

Count me in (please) for the draft. There is a little desperation for ya.

I would have to think MSG is on any list when it comes to being a tough place for opposition to play. What other arenas kicked MSG out the door? None of these “resurrection teams” better have their arena on these lists. That would be a joke. The three I instantly think of are MSG, Joe Louis, and Bell Centre.

Technically, Stallworth got alot more than 30 days. If you factor in the 2 year house arrest and 8 year probation. Burress should call Stallworth up and ask him for his secrets to spending a “jail sentence” at home. Burress actually gets jail time. Stallworth should be put in jail for as long as his type of crime suggests, oh say life.

if you click the bleacher report link you will go to the story.

The Capitals, Hurricanes, Penguins and Sharks were all in there. How MSG got passed up by them is beyond me. But then again look where it is from.

#1 Pick

Depends on how the scoring goes. If SOG count, Ovechkin by a mile. Otherwise you flip a coin between Malkin and Ovechkin.

I’d rather pick 3rd and hope the first two guys screw up and one of them takes Crosby.

In the car on the way to Orlando…..

You can’t start watching Lost unless you are willing to start from the beginning. In no way are you able to pick that up in the middle

Stallworth should have been put away for vehicular manslaughter

Its really a disgusting fact that he only gets 30 days. What precedent does it set.
Hopefully the victums family files a civil case.

Burress really got shafted.

I don’t care what other players got away with, what Vicks did is no somthing that should be tolerated anywhere.

look while i agree that what Vick did was terrible

i think what Stallworth did was ten times worse. Just to set a bar.

YES

Which is worse?

Joe, what Stallworth did was an accident. Vick intentionallly killed a lot of dogs over 6 years. That is heartless. Eagles fans will excuse anything for their players.

Stallworth driving drunk was not an accident

if you knowingly drive drunk and kill someone it is not an accident in my book. As for Eagles fans excusing anything for their players? I don’t hear any Eagle fans saying that what Vick did was not wrong.

You should get 30 days in prison

for rooting for both the Giants and the Eagles. Giants fans root firstly for Big Blue, but a close second is the team playing Philly.

It's in the details...

The law requires the prosecutor to prove intent and cause on top of the blood alcohol level. The reasons Stallworth was able to get away with such a minimal sentence are:

He reached a settlement with the family already.
He was not the cause of the accident, although this could be disputed about whether a sober driver could have reacted differently.
I’m sure the cost to prosecute was a factor.
It’s always important for the prosecution to win against a high profile defendant and we’ve seen prosecutors lose bigger cases than this.

Since it appears the cause of the accident was the other driver the prosecution was able to agree on a reduced plea deal and close the case.

I hate to feel bad for these overpaid children and street thugs, but the real loser is Burress. He didn’t hurt anyone but himself and he is getting the toughest punishment. The prosecutor is definitely making an example of him(comparitively speaking of course).

Also an Eagles & Rangers fan

Only b/c I grew up on Long Island & hated the obnoxious Jets & Giants fans. Gmen is seriously the worse nickname for a team & the Jets were terrible when I was growing up so I didn’t want to root for them. Plus I loved Cunningham & Ricky Waters, additionally my uncle lived in Philly.
I rooted for the Giants in Superbowl 40 b/c I have a deep seeded hatred for the Patriots.

ovie #1 overall. i find LW the hardest position to fill. there are plenty of Cs to go around.

burress is an ass bc ive heard plenty of reports about his ‘disrespect for authority’ and how he always did whatever he pleased, and u could just tell that about him by his demeanor. i hate players like that and glad he is goin to jail. it might seem pretty stiff when comparing next to stallworth, but what happened with stallworth is just mind-boggling.

definitely most excited to see grachev develop. like what ive heard and the little ive seen thus far.
FYI im a rangers and skins fan. i was a front runner when i was little(mid-80s) but i stuck with them through the years so obviously not a front-runner, bc believe me you being a skins fan is tough
