Zherdev update: Oilers not interested

According to Jim Matheson in the Edmonton Journal, contrary to some reports, the Oilers are not interested in Nik Zherdev, Tom Renney didn't give him much of an endorsement:

From the article:

He's a square peg in a round hole.

While Zherdev might be intriguing on the wing because the Oilers have pulled out of the Dany Heatley trade with the Ottawa Senators, sources say Edmonton Oilers associate coach Tom Renney hasn't enthusiastically gone to bat for the enigmatic Ukrainian-born forward.

Renney is a players' coach, but his patience was stretched on Zherdev, a 24-year-old former first-round draft pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets, when Renney was the Rangers head coach.

Bringing you "All Zherdev-all the time".......All I know is we are probably going to have to change the tag line at the top of the page in a few hours

Depends

If Voros makes the team.

Or if you just want to include the whole Rangers system, they have a Zaborsky in the system too.

Its sort of like ESPN

and their all Farve all the time (I guess that’s a big ‘sort of’ on the career accomplishments)

Will he or won’t he? And if he does come back, didn’t he suck for the latter part of the season?

by FreeBradshaw on Aug 4, 2009 10:45 AM EDT reply actions

I agree

we don’t mean to do that to you all but this is the ONLY Ranger news. Its not like in the NFL where they go … Farve Farve farev farev fareva Farev jim johnson died farve farve farve farve farve favre

LOL

I know, I was just playing off the Zherdev all day theme.

Id much rather trade him even if its for 2 left skates.

I must admit I am pretty surprised to see that Glen is going to let Nik walk for nothing. Especially after giving upTyutin for him last year. I found an article today that was all about how Columbus was trying to acquire Redden at last years free agency. So not only did we get stuck with him we lost a great young defender for one year of an enigmatic Russian and a basic no show (Fritsche). We severely got stiffed last year guys.

Now that I really think about all but Redden is gone from last years signings. Kalinin, Naslund, Zherdev, Fritsche…wow haha
(If i forgot anyone can you let me know)

Rissmiller

And Voros. Does Roszival count, seeing as Sather re-signed him last year?

by Reginald Perrin on Aug 4, 2009 11:57 AM EDT up reply actions

Rozsival is arguable...

abd good point on Rissmiller and Voros forgot those two. Rissmiller is gone isn’t he. I keep seeing some sites listing him as a Ranger while others list him as gone.

I bet Sather called around tto trade Z and there is not much interest. It was a bad trade for the Rangers but most teams make mistakes. No sense in throwing good money after bad. Z’s selfish attitude is not good for a team’s chemistry.

i love how the 20/20 hindsight revisionist history that goes on against the Zherdev deal. when it went down people were laughing at how we got a talent like Z for just Tyutin and that we got them to take Backman and his contract as well. Is he an enigma, sure. but this revisionist history to bash the guy who put up the same numbers he had before is BS.
