NHL News: Brendan Shanahan to return to the Devils
Shanny is staying in Newark.
Here is the full story from the Boston Herald
Isn't it funny how the headline of the story is "Brendan Shanahan, 40......." like his age is part of his last name?
Although I guess that is better than "Brendan Shanahan, 2 years older than mud, will return to the New Jersey Devils next season"
Or "Brendan Shanahan, who learned how to skate during the Ice Age, will return to the New Jersey Devils next season"
Anyway there it is, the Devils took this temptation off the table for the Rangers. Not that I think the Rangers were really ever interested, but the thought may have crossed their mind.

Come on – the man was a pimp, no doubt. ;)
"Malik now." "6 foot 6, 238, not a noted goal scorer but he's gonna give it a shot here." "Malik has not scored this year. In on Kolzig, faked it....SCORES"

Rangers tsk tsk
we need a veteran in the locker room, a proven leader, a big left wing on the third line, hmmm, what else …ohh yeah this old guy will be all of that to your team while keeping guys like avery and brashear in check.
ok shanny go for 30 this year and score more than a guy named ..what was it ohh…zherdev, a guy who gets more press than a dry cleaners in chinatown. Show everyone(sather) you still got it and show why gms should gamble A YEAR on old proven leaders rather than gamble SIX YEARS on second pair defensemen. go shanny.

I agree, veteran leadership is great to have, but not sure its a World War II veteran the Rangers need

If Shanny learned to skate during the Ice Age....
What will the headline be if the Rangers take on Chelios ?
“Chris Chelios, 47, who taught Brendan Shanahan how to skate during the Ice Age…..”
:-D

I'd lay a good amount of money
That Shanny doesn’t score 30 this year.
They’ve spent the whole offseason getting faster, and they’re going to add a past his prime LWer who wasn’t exactly speedy 3 years ago? Stop the madness.
I’m actually pretty happy that most of the team was born in the 80s.

Plus, let’s not forget that Lemaire is back coaching this team, and in his 12 years of coaching, players have scored 30 goals 12 times, and 6 of them were Marian Gaborik.

Was my son's favorite
He was my 8 year old’s favorite, may still be, but we’re both glad he’s not a Ranger.

30 is a reach i no, but where is dubz, cally, anisimov, lisin, staal, girardi, boyle, byers, and two rook dmen, turn to for advice or guidance… the coach who got thrown out of a game, avery…, brashear(why is orr gone), drury, higgins, and kotalik are really quiet when it comes to the media, i could only imagine what their like in the locker room. gaborik ? who knows and lundvquist is a goalie, no goalie should ever have to worry about anything other than the pipes he guards. i didnt leave out any one i think …rozy….red…….
no i covered all bases. we have great team don’t get me wrong, i just think we have a glaring hole in leadership which shanny could’ve, no, should’ve filled.

i dont disagree we could use some vocal veteran leadership
but do u remember the playoff series against the pens 2 years ago? they made shanny seem like he was standing still. love shanny but there is no room for him here

Way too slow.
I love him….we should have hire him as a second assistant coach.
