John Tortorella is minutes away from meeting with the media but, in a bit of a surprise since Tortorella has mentioned he prefers just having one bench assistant, assistant GM Jim Schoenfeld will remain as an assistant coach, joining Mike Sullivan.

This is a fabulous smart move by Tortorella – something we’re not used to from the Ranger’s organization.
Having an ex-All Star Defenseman, who already has a good working relationship with the young D-corps, and who’s been involved with guys like Sauer, Potter and Sanguinetti in Hartford is a huge plus. If you remember at the end of last season – the d-men in some interviews were commenting about how they’d learned so much from Schoeny about position, using the stick down low to block shots, and other fundamentals.
So many good reasons for this !
