Rangers News: Let's play two! AHL-NHL Double Dip at MSG West

For those of you that didn't know, there is a doubleheader today over in Newark. At 1 PM, the Hartford Wolfpack will take on the Lowell Devils, and then at 7 PM the Rangers and Devils take to the ice.

Here are the rosters for the games today, thanks to Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants:

Hartford (1 p.m. game):

Justin Soryal-Paul Crowder-Dale Weise
Devin Didiomete-Corey Locke-Ryan Bourque
Brodie Dupont-Ethan Werek-Andres Ambuhl
Daniel Bartek-Roman Horak-Jordan Owens
Trevor Glass-Sam Klassen
Nigel Williams-Tomas Kundratek
Ilkka Heikkinen-David Urquhart
G: Scott Stajcer/Miika Wiikman

Rangers (7 p.m. game):

Sean Avery-Vinny Prospal-P.A. Parenteau
Aaron Voros-Tyler Arnason-Enver Lisin
Evgeny Grachev-Brian Boyle-Ales Kotalik
Patrick Rissmiller-Matt Maccarone-Dan LaCouture
Wade Redden-Matt Gilroy
Michael Del Zotto-Michal Rozsival
Brent Henley-Corey Potter
G: Henrik Lundqvist/Chad Johnson

I must say I am a little bummed. Was hoping to get a look at Heikkenen and Klassen tonight, before surely at least one of them is cut.

Arnason-Boyle-Maccarone, not exactly a Murderer's Row at center tonight. But on the plus side, we get to see Grachev, Gilroy, and Del Zotto again, and we'll get our first look at Vinny Prospal in a Ranger uniform.

i am very surprised to see henley and potter in the night game instead of heikkinen and or klassen. the good news is that all the youngsters that are playing both games are getting extended looks and thus have a larger chance of making the club.

also the larry brooks column from this morning that talked about torts not really wanting two young d-men to be 5-6 as he said, "When I say I want two young defensemen on the team, I’m thinking of them as six-seven," worries me because i dont want mdz kept here to be in and out of the lineup when he could play every night in juniors.

torts went on to talk about not wanting to play them together which i certainly understand and you could easily split rozi and redden to play with the you guys, but i was not impressed with semenov last night and hoping that a vet d-man gets cut to be a starter for you is not the best hope i have, but guess we shall see. if gilroy and mdz play tonight as they did last night they are going to force torts to make other adjustments because they will have earned their way on this team.

Gilroy-Staal may well be something we continue to see all season, which I personally like a lot, I think Gilroy would actually be a better compliment to Staal than Girardi. I also like that they’re testing him and MDZ with R&R tonight. It looks like they’re going to get every opportunity to make the team. It’s interesting that Tortorella likes the Kotalik-MDZ combo on the PP, that will help his case also.

I agree that if they’re going to carry a young 7th defenseman, I don’t want it to be MDZ. If that’s the plan I’d much prefer potter or sauer make the team than any of the kids who don’t already have NHL experience (Heikkinen, MDZ, etc…)

My hope is though that Gilroy and MDZ prove to be just too good to send down and they don’t bother tying up more cap room with a veteran defenseman.

The 4th line tonight is certainly playing to not get cut, but I don’t see any of them making the team regardless.

Boyle centering Kotalik and Grachev is quite interesting. Looks like this would be his chance to solidify the 4th line center spot.

lets not go crazy on calling what sauer and potter have nhl experience. sauer has 3 games and potter has 5 i believe.

i could see staal – gilroy, redden – girardi, mdz – rozy as the 3 pairs on d this season.

potter, sauer, heikkinen all are fine as a 7.

Just saw a picture on Twitter from the game, there is no one there, you could have sat behind the Rangers bench and called out the line changes

well Laurie twittered that Messier is sitting right behind her with Schoenfeld, that doesn’t sound depressing to me

i meant the few number of people. no to sit with the ranger brain trust is not at all depressing.

2nd period comments seem much better in terms of Heikkinen, Bourque and Horak.

Anyone think a goaltender is going to get cut? I hope not because I want to see Zaba and Johnson play in more games than just one.

Heikkinen isn’t playing, which disappoints me. Remember, the players not playing tonight just had their impressions. And from the looks of it, Voros will be battling LIsin for fourth line duties.

First look at Henrik tonight. Sam Rosen said he looked in real good shape yesterday during the broadcast.

i think the most likely is Stajcer goes back to Junior along with Horak, Bourque, Werek, probably Klassen as well. dont remember if kundratek has junior eligibility left i think he does with medicine hat. at least those are likely trims of who played today.

Laurie (BeyondTheBlueshirts) – reports that OWENS will be playing with the Rangers tonight, and Dan LaCouture played this afternoon with the W.P.

Baby Rangers win in a shootout after Dale Weise tied it with an unassisted goal with :37 left in regulation and a scoreless OT period. Andres Ambuhl with the final shootout tally.
