Some of the cuts

I’m surprised about. I wanted to see more of Andres Ambuhl. I wonder why Tyler Arnason is still around though.

Good job on beating everyone else to this story! Is there anyone on the roster your shocked about or scratching your head on?

I wanted to see Ambuhl too, but at least he will be in Hartford, so we can keep tabs on him

Apparently Ambuhl needs some time to adjust to the North American game – frequently enough that happens with Euro. players.

Have to get Jess’ (Prospect Park) take on those sent down to Juniors. I think the surprise there might have been Kundratek – but not sure.

Heck it happened with Grachev. Ambuhl will start impressing more in less time than you know it.

There were a few shifts early in that rookie game where Ambuhl looked like Avery but he faded until popping up for the shootout … definitely has skills. If he can get the physicality and consistency down, he will be nice to have.

I’d be surprised if Vally didn’t get backup … but I wouldn’t mind Chad Johnson as a backup for Henrik.

one game

isnt enough.. he looked good for a game.. i wouldnt line him up ass backup yet…

and im just hoping dubi signs..

by Moshe52792 on Sep 17, 2009 6:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Vally is the one of the best backups in the league. He’s always ready to play, and he doesn’t complain about his role. I really doubt his job is in jeopardy.

on a serious note though, i thought maccarone was doing pretty well in camp.

Sanguinetti

How is Sanguinetti doing in camp? I am stuck in Minnesota and can’t really keep up. I don’t know what i would do without you guys. Do you think the last D will come down to MDZ or Sangs?

by ae2cdk on Sep 17, 2009 9:00 PM EDT reply actions

Sangs hasn’t played in either of the two pre-season games. He had some issues during the early part of the camp – whether it was conditioning or not – no one’s talking. Torts said that he’ll get a game in pre-season.

Personally, I think DZ should play the year in the OHL (just like Staal did) – so based on that I don’t think the last D spot(s) will be for him. Don’t know about Sangs or the others. 2 weeks to go – and we’ll know for sure.

by dbmaven on Sep 17, 2009 11:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Who do you think gets last D spot?

Thanks for the info i didn’t even know Sangs hadn’t played in the pre season so far. So you think Semenov has a shot at sticking? BTW what happened to McClaren?

chandler knight

by ae2cdk on Sep 18, 2009 12:08 AM EDT up reply actions

McClaren is hurt and isn’t in camp, Semenov has a shot at staying around as the 6th/7th defenseman.

by KingHenrik on Sep 18, 2009 2:45 AM EDT up reply actions

I really hope Maccarone makes it up to the NHL at some point.
The name, the moustache, the height (6’7), he’s just so interesting.

kind of early to talk about Johnson after one appearance-I don’t think even the staff has had a good evaluation period to form an hard opinion. Vally is always ready willing and able to do what is necessary and brings a history and results.

by Rick 4 NYR on Sep 18, 2009 12:48 AM EDT reply actions

Not to mention

With Henrik going to the Olympics the backup is likely going to see action in ~25 games this year, it would be bold to have a rookie backup with that kind of workload.

Not that rookie goalies haven’t had success lately in the NHL, but that type of work load behind an established #1 is more suited to Valiquette than Johnson or Zaba.
