I don’t think Stan Fischler would be happy with ‘The maven’ being applied to someone other than himself… ;-)

Fischler is a douche...
He’s the most blatant flip-flopping, front-running geezer in sports broadcasting.

with Artie and Grachev playing so well together the question becomes the right wing because Lisin has played well with them, but if Kotalik is going to play with Drury doesnt cally have to play on the 3rd line?
by mleetch352 on Sep 18, 2009 7:53 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Kotalik plays both wings
so he migh just move wherever Cally isnt

right but we have 7 wings for 3 lines if prospal is playing center…gaborik, avery, higgins, kotalik, grachev, lisin, cally.

i didnt see it but I think that
its still hockey so if it was clean then it doesnt matter that its the preseason. If you think about it the pre-season is the most dangerous because guys are trying to make the teams

It was not clean, he left his feet and drilled him.
by KingHenrik on Sep 18, 2009 8:10 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions 0 recs
Clean. It was a unfortunate set of circumstances. Dawes pushed Okposo to knock him off the puck, which did. The push set him head first into Phaneuf, who was already skating towards him for a check. It only resulted the way it did because of that. Okposo was bent forward after the push, which turned the “body on body” check, into Phaneuf running into someone half his size.

I mean, I feel bad for Okposo, but Phaneuf shouldn’t get looked at for that hit.

very true
I mean a lot of people still give Kronwall crap for the hit on Havlat in the playoffs but there’s a picture floating around online that shows it was perfectly legal. Its a circumstantial thing for a lot of people (ie who’s involved, teams playing)
by Casey Richey on Sep 18, 2009 8:15 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Barely legal hit. I didn’t think that in the split second that Okposo got jostled from behind and put his head down that Phaneuf could ease up – but others disagree with me.
For the preseason, it was unnecessary.
What most Isles fans are upset about is he wouldn’t drop the gloves when it was done.
He now has a huge bulls-eye on his whole body – anybody looking to make a name for themselves will try to go at him.

but to seriously answer ur question from watching the preseason what give us hope in here is that a bunch of “young” players are going to get chances to make this team and contribute (Artem Anisimov, Grachev, Gilroy, Del Zotto), which hasnt always been the case with this organization.

Completely different game. The forwards are doing an exceptional job forechecking down low. The D men have stepped up to keep the puck in the zone and prevent the breakout. The D hasn’t been noticeable – because they haven’t had to be.

Right now?
Gilroy’s a lock – probably had to really suck not to get the spot.
Other than that – I wouldn’t call it yet.
DZ has been noticeable offensively – but also noticeable (not in a good way) defensively.
This is Sangs first look – too early to call. Same with Heikkinen, and Potter.
If you forced me to call it right now. Potter. Because of the experience none of the others have.
Maybe against Bos. we’ll get a better idea

They had a really good shift, keeping the puck in deep.

You just saw why Brashear > Orr. Turned and blasted it on net.
And no call on the hit against Voros?? Holy Cow.
by dbmaven on Sep 18, 2009 9:51 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
brashear definitely has more offensive skill

can i ask a dumb question about the kessel boston situation. boston couldnt sign him because of the cap so why did toronto give up more compensation than just signing him for a 1, 2, 3?

im just saying they could have given kessel 5 years 26.15 mil instead of 5/27 and it would have cost a 1, 2, 3 but instead they gave up 2 1’s and a 2.

because Burke made such a big stink
when Edmonton signed Penner from under his nose

not a fair comparison. he made the stink because they vastly overpaid a player because penner wasnt worth what he signed for. neither was vanek for what the oilers gave him in a sheet either.

but that is exactly why Burke didn't do it
i bet you of that Penner thing didnt happen then he would have done it

ok lets say thats true, how does that translate to the leverage of an extra number 1 pick?
by mleetch352 on Sep 18, 2009 9:58 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
That – could well be the $27mm question.
If the only contents of the deal are the picks (1st and 2nd round 2010 + 1st round 2011) – then why not save that 1st round pick and give up the 3rd in 2010?

Wow…couldn’t even get it off the boards? Oh well – great job by Callihan. He wanted to tie that bad

Well – Anisimov and Parenteau impressed tonight. Lisin, too
So did Brashear/Boyle/Voros
Sanguinetti looked confident and comfortable.
R + R – I may be swinging around to “waive them” if they don’t get their act together by season opener. Potter and Sauer couldn’t possibly be worse.

WTF!
why does this keep happening.. always repeating itself
by Moshe52792 on Sep 18, 2009 10:07 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
like everytime it just repeats itself and adds on the next line..

I’d disagree on a lot of counts.
Sanguinetti was far superior to Heikkinen. And Potter looked better than Semenov.
Still too early to call the 6/7 defensemen, IMO.
Not that I’d roll these lines – but these would be my 12 + 1 on offense
Avery Prospal Gaborik : Higgins Drury Kotalik : Grachev Anisimov Callahan
Brashear Boyle Parenteau + Lisin
And that could change tomorrow.

hmm
i didnt get to watch he whole game due to the holiday, so ill take yer word on it.
and if dubi comes in, grachev looses his spot i suppose..
so what do u do? carry 23 forwards. have voros and lisin the extras. and if dubi signs send i guess lisin or grachev down.
and with defensemen. staal girardi redden rozi gilroy semenov ?
im pretty sure semenov will make the team. so who else?
and if this repeats itself, im sorry. idk why it keeps doing that.
all in all im pretty happy with our team
