Post game quotes after the jump!
John Tortorella on Brandon Dubinsky...
"We all know he didn't want to be sitting out. I wish he didn't miss any time (in training camp). I think he has a little extra incentive and is happy to be back playing. I thought he played very well in a lot of different situations."
Christopher Higgins on the game-winning goal...
"Dubi (Brandon Dubinsky) took it in deep. I was just trying to go to the net, draw defenders to me. Dubi had a great play, he was getting around them. It just fell on my stick. It wasn't the prettiest goal but I guess we will take it with a minute left."
Brandon Dubinsky on Marian Gaborik and Christopher Higgins...
"Obviously those guys have great skill and they are great players. I have not been here the whole time so it is going to take me a little bit of time to get used to playing with those guys. I haven't been practicing with them at all so this was the first time (we played together) tonight. We found a way to get a couple of goals which was great. Hopefully we will be able to practice together and get to know each other."

looking good
looked good last night boys..from gabby’s quick hands and feet to dubi’s aggressiveness and willingness to make a play..hank shakin the rust off…t-minus one week!
Downside of last night is that Anisimov looked handcuffed playing on the 4th line with Brashear and Voros, and Tortorella told Newsday:
“I don’t think he’s going to be in the top six as I write my lines,” coach John Tortorella said last night before the Rangers earned their third straight victory, beating the Washington Capitals, 3-2, at the Garden. “But he’s the type of guy I can put in those situations during a game. He’s had a very good camp . . . Artie’s killed some penalties, he’s taken faceoffs for us, he’s been responsible defensively, and what right now puts him in a good spot for this team is that he’s scored some goals, he’s got some offense.”
If that means AA gets on the 3rd line where we all thought he would, then that’s fine. As a 4th liner though he’ll likely struggle most of the season.

no one thought he would in the the top 6
we want him on the 3rd line

anisimov is a perfectfit on the third line.. hes a rookie, but he obviously has a lot of talent..
no reason to put him in the ahl, and the 4th line playing with brashear and voros is a waste..
put him on the third line with cally and avery.. than we will have 3 skilled lines..
plus, if you think aobut our PP, having anisimov infront would be awesome..
Kotalik and MDZ/Gilroy at the point.. gaborik, prospal, and anisimov is big and has skill, so stick him infront of the net…
LET'S GO RANGERS!!!
Last nights game may be a brilliant harbinger of what’s to come – at least in the first month or so of the season.
For the last year plus (e.g. ‘The Renney Era’) we got used to a (boring) defense first – collapse around the goalie – take away the shooting lanes – jump on the other team’s mistakes type of game. With few exceptions the games were close and decided by one or two goals.
Now, we can expect to see a “the best defense is to keep the puck out of your zone” pressure-type game – heavily dependent on the forecheck – d-men stepping up quickly at both blue lines to keep the puck in the offensive zone, or keep attackers out of our zone.
This will lead to some lopsided games – where we score a lot.
It will also lead to some lopsided games – where we don’t score a lot – and the other team catches either lucky breaks or creates them – and they put the puck in the net – e.g. their goalie is hot and ours isn’t (hey – it does happen occasionally).
And against the better teams – like Washington – it’ll lead to one goal games again – where a single mistake is the difference between win/loss/tie.
It’s absolutely going to be fun to watch – long stretches of non-stop rushes up and down the ice – lots of action. Time will tell if we have the defensive corps that can get back to cover in this type of system (my opinion – only Gilroy has the speed and instinct to do it successfully on a high percentage basis – he proved that a number of times last night and in prior games. The others are going to have to be much better at picking their spots – and it’s 50/50.)
It is so nice to have a goal-scorer again ! Gaborik could have a 100+ point season.
there is definitely alot of excitement in the air with this team as the opener draws nearer and nearer, and definitely alot of questions. one thing we know for sure is that they are goin to be a very exciting team to watch and we have 2 bonafide superstars(with all the other issues circulating, ol’ reliable henrik has almost been overlooked) and alot of young talent. as we saw glimpses of this preseason, particularly last night, we have a chance to be scary good and explosive if a few things go our way, and i have a feeling most things will go our way, and we might end up with a legit shot to make serious noise in the playoffs(not like the last few years where we 2nd round was an accomplishment). all that being said, i cant wait for this season to start even though i have to be in upstate ny at a wedding for fri night! trust me when i tell u i will be looking for some broadcast of the came within a 5 mile radius
