I know its a Ranger site but cmon....

Henrik for the Vezina? I don’t think he is even close to the way Bryzgalov, Kiprusoff, and Miller have been playing this year. Especially Miller he has been playing in the Matrix for most of the season.

gonna have to agree...

I love Lundqvist, but I don’t think he can be put ahead of those 3.

I think you are getting way too wrapped up in a mid season award fictitiously given out

If you think my choice of Lundqvist was bad, you should see some of the others, and Henrik garnered several votes.

Lundqvist shouldn't even be nominated at this point....

Just look at some basic stats for goalies

Lundqvist’s league rankings – Save Percentage – 13th, Wins 11th, goals against average – 12th and shutouts – T21st

Miller – SP – 1st, wins – T2nd, GAA – T3rd (1st amoung regular starting goalies) and shutouts – T1st

Bryzgalov – SP- 8th, wins -T4th, GAA – 5th (3rd starters) and shutouts – T1st

Brouder – SP – 12th, wins – 1st, GAA – 6th(4th starters) and shutouts – T1st

In addition to those three, Nabokov, Kiprusoff and Luongo are all ranked higher than Henrik in all four of those categories and Cristobal Huet, Anti Neimi, Tuka Rask and Simeon Varlamov are all better in 3 out of 4. That is 10 goalies who have better stats in at least three of the four major statistics for goaltenders including six who are better in all four.

by skinsup on Jan 8, 2010 6:30 PM EST reply actions

side note 2...

other than Tuka Rask the other nine goalies are on teams ranked 1 through 8 in the overall NHL standings

Chicago – Huet & Neimi
San Jose – Nabokov
New Jersey – Brouduer
Buffalo – Miller
Washington – Varlamov
Phoenix – Brygalov
Calgary – Kiprusoff
Vancouver – Luongo

Boston and Rask currently sit 13th overall while the Rangers and Henrik are 16th….so another somewhat important stat when it comes to awards that Henrik is behind all 10 of the goalies mentioned above.

i’ve always said put Hank on San Jose or Detroit and he wins 50 games

by cookin26 on Jan 8, 2010 7:00 PM EST reply actions

well he’d probably at least have a winning record then…19-14-5-1 (so 19-20) sure doesn’t sound like the kind of record a Vezina canidate should have, especially considering he isn’t in the top ten in any of the major statistical categories….if Jimmy wanted to get a Ranger on his list he should have included the Hart, at least you can make a case for Gaborik without seeming like an ABSOLUTLY blind home town fan

by skinsup on Jan 8, 2010 7:13 PM EST up reply actions

yeah true. but if henrik did play on a good team hed be a 50 game winner

LET'S GO RANGERS!!!

by Moshe52792 on Jan 8, 2010 7:42 PM EST up reply actions

you do realize that in the 92 year history of the NHL no goalie has ever won 50 games in a season right?

by skinsup on Jan 8, 2010 7:56 PM EST up reply actions

screw that none of my teachers ever did, lol….but really, the Rangers are a good team, maybe not great, but they ain’t Toronto or Carolina or anything….although Carolina does have some decent talent.
So over 92 years only 39 times has a goalie won 40 games…granted, most of those have been since they eliminated the tie or just Brouder with 7 of the 39 seasons, but 50 for anyone is a strech, so the Blueshirts would have to be a really bad team in front of Henrik now for him to improve that much by playing on a different team, and I don’t think they are.

by skinsup on Jan 8, 2010 9:25 PM EST up reply actions

I Think

if you put Henry on Toronto or Carolina they’d be near the same place as the Rangers. If it weren’t for Lundqvist the Rangers would be was out of it.

LET'S GO RANGERS!!!

by Moshe52792 on Jan 9, 2010 11:39 AM EST up reply actions

yes.

i could see him winning 43 or something though easily

LET'S GO RANGERS!!!

by Moshe52792 on Jan 9, 2010 11:38 AM EST up reply actions

Kopitar? Didn’t he have like a 15 game stretch of not getting any points?

by KingHenrik on Jan 8, 2010 11:08 PM EST reply actions

yeah after he started the season with like 33 points in 18 games

LET'S GO RANGERS!!!

by Moshe52792 on Jan 9, 2010 11:40 AM EST up reply actions

Well Congratulations to him, doesn’t change the fact that he’s currently tied for 17th in the league in points.

by KingHenrik on Jan 9, 2010 12:04 PM EST up reply actions

Anze - maybe he gets extra points for having a unique name

it’s all i can think of as to why you’d give him the hart, lol

by skinsup on Jan 9, 2010 12:09 PM EST up reply actions

Vezina Trophy

Supposed to be the goal tender most valuable to his team. Obviously stats are a big part of it but if you look at the Rangers two names stand out, Gaborik and Lundqvist. I think if you take Gaborik out of the line up every night the Rangers are a better team than if you take out Lundqvist and put in an average goalie.

by toxictoast8790 on Jan 9, 2010 10:42 AM EST reply actions

While true

Without Miller, Buffalo would be in the toilet.

If he had a league average SV% (i’m using .915 since that’s what 15-17th place has right now, which is right in the middle, rather than doing the sum total of all shots) , Buffalo goes from +22 in goal differential (6th in the league) down to -1 (16th in the league) Since teams roughly fall into the standings of goal differential, that’s a pretty big leap.

Or if you believe in GVT (goals versus threshold) as an indicator, Miller’s hands down the #1 goalie in the league. That would also give you Ovechkin as the MVP, with H. Sedin, Crosby and Gaborik right on his tail, and Duncan Keith as your Norris winner.

Im not saying Henrik should win

Im just saying that him being in the conversation isn;t that out of line if you look at it as the goalie who is most valuable to his team.

by toxictoast8790 on Jan 9, 2010 2:39 PM EST up reply actions

Actually...

if you check with the Hockey Hall of Fame……

In 1981-82, the trophy’s definition changed. The Williams M. Jennings Trophy was introduced for the goalkeeper with the lowest goals-against average, while the Vezina Trophy then became an award for the goaltender judged to be the best at his position in the opinion of the general managers. The first Vezina Trophy went to George Hainsworth, who, ironically, replaced Georges Vezina in goal for the Montreal Canadiens.

But personally I think you can build a stronger case that Miller in Buffalo or Bryzgalov in Phoenix are more valuable to thier teams than Lundqvist to the Rangers if that’s how you want to go, I mean if you combine Buffalo’s two leading scorers they only have 13 more combined points than Gaborik has on his own and Phoenix’s top two scorers only have 1 more point combined than Gaborik……..granted Buffalo has a more balanced attack than the Rangers, but your talking about – if any one player was removed from a team right…..the post by Ranger Smurf makes some good points on this as well.

by skinsup on Jan 9, 2010 11:44 AM EST up reply actions

well i think we should also looked at goals foron each team.

cause while we may have a star player, for the majority of our season no one else can score. do other teams score more goals than us?

LET'S GO RANGERS!!!

by Moshe52792 on Jan 9, 2010 12:01 PM EST up reply actions

ok...

buffalo 118
new york 115
phoenix 113

but then also consider goals against

buffalo 96
phoenix 104
new york 119

by skinsup on Jan 9, 2010 12:05 PM EST up reply actions

well if thats the case.

well if henrik and team play for the rest of the season the way we have the last 11

7-1-3

than he can be in the argument.

but for now its miller, than bryz, than kipper i would guess

LET'S GO RANGERS!!!

by Moshe52792 on Jan 9, 2010 2:50 PM EST up reply actions

According to the Canadian Encyclopedia

Its awarded to the most valuable to the team so i guess its up to the GM’s interpretation.

kopitar?

kopitar is nice but he goes into point droughts and had an amazing start. If you wanna take a guy who truly is the true meaning of MVP which should mean most valuable to his team…….. Look no further than Marian gaborik. Without him we are cellar dwellers. He has netted 27 percent of the rangers goals. That’s crazy!!!!
