New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers: Open Game Thread
With two straight wins under their belt, the New York Rangers will look to add to that when they host the New Jersey Devils at Madison Square Garden tonight. The Blueshirts are 3-2-1 on the season and currently sit in ninth place in the Eastern Conference. The cellar dweller Devils, on the other hand, are dead last in the Conference with a record of 2-5-1. No matter where these teams sit in the standings, it is sure to be a thrilling night at MSG nonetheless. It is Rangers - Devils hockey and both clubs have something to prove.
Rangers Lineup:
Dubinsky - Anisimov - Callahan
Frolov - Christensen - Prust
Avery - Stepan - Fedotenko
Boogaard - White - Boyle
Staal - Rozsival
Del Zotto - Girardi
Gilroy - Sauer
A few side notes: Lundqvist is expected to start in goal again, and Jeremy Williams has been recalled from Hartford (AHL) in case Brandon Prust (eye) cannot play.

Must say, I’m a tad surprised Eminger’s not in, I thought for sure Tortorella was just going to rotate 2 games at a time.. Hopefully he recognized that the 2-0-0 record without Eminger is something to build on.

Although if Del Zotto continues to perform well on the PK, it seriously reduces the need to play Eminger. Torts didn’t seem to trust DZ on PK earlier (can’t say I blame him), but now he’s getting regular PK shifts.
MDZ had a great game in his own end last night. W/ the exception of a few small gaffs the whole defense played well

tough situation for white – playing with brian boyle and derek boogard 8 mins a night doesnt really give him an opportunity to show if he’s still got it. The writing seems to be on the wall that he’s gone once Drury comes back.

Hoping There Is No Letdown
We are coming off two nice wins for the NYR, and a bad loss for the NJD, which for some reason Kovalchuk (laziness?) sat out. We could
a) beat up on this disorganized team, or
b) take them too easily, and have a bad game. Which would even up the standings, and which would in April make us regret the poor performance now.
Please please please, Rangers: Keep the heat on Fatso and the Devils! Put them down now, and throughout the season!
T

Not much of a reason...
15-20 minutes late is not much for a benching, but I guess it was a good enough excuse for this struggling team.
I’m looking forward to Avery v. Kovy… I wouldn’t want it any other way.
johnny mac forgot that a 15 year contract means kovy i going to be there a helluva lot longer than he will be – i understand the accountability of it if thats actually what it was, i just dont know if that was the right way.

I didn’t understand the desire of MacLean to put Kovy and Parise on the same line. Yeah, the line could potentially be sick, but they create many more match-up problems on separate lines.

AND ROZSIVAL’S PLAY.
Hank has been doing great. That Arty, Cally, Duby line is fantastic. Love it.
Like what Frolov is doing, wish he would try something other than a wrap-around sometimes but I like that he challenges goaltenders with what he does around the net.
Lets have a great 3rd period.
In Hank we trust.
I am impressed with Rozsival. He is finally taking rips from the point. For the first time he isn’t shy on firing that cannon of his. Some nice goals and even a soft shot against Toronto that slipped in during the home opener.

Looks like the boys are playing well
Freedom is a road seldom traveled by the multitudes...
If it’s not Brett Gardner’s bat breaking the TBS Camera in the first base camerawell. It’s a rangers shot that break the camera above the net in the second period.

At least it took off a solid 2 minutes off the game clock for the Rangers. No PPG, but good clock management.

I was so shocked to hear Johnny Mac scratched Kovalchuk last night against Buffalo. But it doesn’t matter anyway. He is a selfish bastard.

rangers need to get back to their aggressive play...it looks like they're sitting back and letting the devils come to them
Most teams will do that up 2 in the 3rd.

Puck was loose, but once it was covered refs should’ve blown the whistle. And why does Rozsival get a roughing call? He got hit first.

Because he's on the Rangers
