Can these deals work?

Some moves to consider, one or the other:

1.   Edmonton: Matt Gilroy, Alexander Frolov

Rangers: Ryan Whitney, 2011 2nd Round Pick, 2012 2nd Round Pick

2. Atlanta: Matt Gilroy, Alexander Frolov, Todd White

Rangers: Andrew Ladd, Dustin Bfyugelin, 2011 3rd Round Pick

3. Dallas: Evegny Grachev, Alexander Frolov, Todd White, Matt Gilroy, 2012 3rd Round Pick

Rangers: Stephane Robidas, James Neal, 2011 2nd Round Pick, 2011 3rd Round Pick

4.    Nashville: Matt Gilroy, Michal Rozsival, Evgeny Grachev

Rangers: Shea Weber, 2011 2nd Round Pick

deal 3 gets us dman, forward, and picks
deal 4 is possible, i think

Deal 4 is not even close. While Weber is a pending UFA< there’s little chance NSH doesn’t pony up and give him a lifetime contract. He’s their franchise player.

3 is not happening, I don’t think, since Dallas is giving up the two best assets in that deal.

1 is not happening, I don’t think, since I doubt either Frolov or Gilroy would land Whitney straight-up, and neither of ’em is worth 2 2nds, I think.

In #2, it might work, but ATL isn’t going to give up two players with rings it just traded for. I think Ladd leads them in scoring and Byfuglien in scoring from the blueline.

why would any of these teams make any of these deals? I really dont think any teams would consider him anything more than a decent 3rd pair or 7th defenseman with just a little bit of upside. None of those teams would have any use for Frolov, if they wanted him they coulda went after him as a FA this offseason and hes been a complete dud this year so his stock has only dropped.

The only way any of these deals would work is if the other GMs are all on crack

by nyrangerfan521 on Nov 13, 2010 2:56 AM EST reply actions

meant to say Gilroy in the 2nd sentence*

by nyrangerfan521 on Nov 13, 2010 2:57 AM EST up reply actions

Not to beat the dead horse, but none of these trades other than possibly #1 have a chance in hell of going through. I understand how important first round draft picks are, but you can’t give up spare parts for top line talent without throwing in first rounders. Look at what it took to get Kessel.

If Gilroy can barely crack the roster on the Rangers, what do you think his trade value looks like right now?
Grachev looks promising, but still needs to improve on a few things. He’s young and has time. I wouldn’t give up on him yet, but if it’s to get top line talent, he’s a casualty of doing business.

White looks like he has some use. I don’t see anyone giving up even a fourth round pick for him at the deadline. Don’t see any team in the league that can use him unless they lose 2 centers for a while.

Enough’s been said about Frolov already. I’m sure GMs know how he’s playing right now, and won’t get much trade value until he offsets this drought he’s in.

Rozy will have some trade value because he’s at the tail end of a front-loaded contract, mainly to teams running on a limited payroll beneath the cap. He won’t net us as much as most of us may think, but something is better than nothing.

1: Could work.
2: Swap Gilroy with Sauer and throw in a first and maybe a third.
3: Keep dreaming. I know about the off-ice issues out there in Dallas, but they’re not fools (e.g. Gainey, Sutter).
4. Remove Gilroy, throw in a first, and possibly another draft pick, and that only gets them to start haggling.

So many people have blue-tinted glasses when it comes to trade ideas that they can’t look outside the box. You can’t give our scraps for talent without giving away at least 2 of your top-5 prospects on EL deals and/or first or second round draft picks.

In the perfect dream world we win the cup every year by trading Redden for Ovechkin straight up, but this is reality. If you picture yourself being the other team’s GM, is there even a chance in hell you don’t hang up the phone on Sather and have a good laugh while telling your staff about the guy that just called you that must have been high on several things at once thinking you were dumb enough to even remotely consider the idea of the trade you just proposed?

Sorry, sleep deprived and ranting a bit… will leave it at that and hope things don’t get out of hand. Good night.

Deals 2 and 4 are laughable. The single funniest thing here is the idea behind #1, however—Frolov and Gilroy aren’t worth two second-round picks by themselves, tossing in a player puts this proposal into video-game fantasyland.

Got to agree with NYR521 here—the only way any of these deals get done is if Sather starts selling crack and LSD to the GMs of these teams before calling them to talk trades.

What is the point of a post like this, except to get the old scorn generator working?

I think these trades work in NHL 2011 much more than they work in real life. I am not convinced Matt Gilroy has a lot of trade value, Todd White has zero trade value (too old, contract is much too high at nearly 3 million), teams that have a pending UFA wouldn’t want to trade him away to get Frolov who is going to be a UFA.

I don’t see any of these working out.

Not to mention that twice Todd White has gone through waivers, and nobody wanted him for free.

They’re comedic.

Todd White is here to stay, he is overpaid but is a good faceoff guy and can skate. I’d rather have White than Brashear and Rissmiller to worry about.

Gilroy, Frolov and White have no value at all. They will all be UFAs at the end of the year and have underperformed so far.

Why would the other team do any of these deals? It is our scrubs for real good players., lets say Frolov got hot, he still is an UFA so why would a rebuilding team like Ed trade us Whitney for the rights to gilroy and 2 2nd round picks?
The Dallas trade- those players would not even get us Neal but Dallas is going to throw Robidas what to be nice guys?
And the Weber trade, I am just going to leave that alone
These trades make no sense imo.

these trades just wont work.. think of it from the other teams point of view..

would u really give up shea weber and a 2nd round pick for gilroy grachev and rozi?

i sure as hell wouldnt..

one has a chance of going through, but the rest.. no chance..

dan. if you were the thrashers gm, would u legitimately give up byfuglien, ladd, and a 3rd round pick for white, (who they traded to us for brashear and rissmiller and than waived brashear.. also is an aging guy with an expiring contract) frolov, (expiring contract) and gilroy (a 25 some odd year old with some promise but is a big question mark?

since frolov is a ufa and they could just sign him at the start of the season. there pretty much giving up big buff, ladd, and a pick for gilroy… come on..

With all of these trades

I think people have to set their sights a little lower. We are trading… garbage really. We should expect a role player or a 7th d-man in return, not a top pair defenseman with a cannon like Byfuglien AND a guy having a great year on the first line like Ladd. If the target was someone like Rob Hainsey or Boris Valabik I’d be less critical. But even then I don’t think the trade works out. I think Frolov’s only real chance to be traded is to a team that wants to add another gun for the playoff push, and if that deal happens we would probably be getting a draft pick(s) or a prospect, we wouldn’t be getting a crucial player.

In Hank we trust.

by Dig Deep on Nov 13, 2010 2:04 PM EST up reply actions

exactly. people need to understand. if your so willing to give players away, than theres obviously something wrong about them. why would another team want a play you have no problem getting rid of. maybe these trades work in nhl 11 (which i love). but you cant trade 5 pieces of dog meat for filet mignon. theres a reason were willing to get rid of certain players.

would u get rid of staal and a 2nd round pick for roszival and 2 VERY questionable prospects?? yeah.. no.. lets say grachev and the second round pick are a wash. so than..

would u trade staal for rozi and gilroy. hell no.

Last time I commented about trade proposals, my mssg was deleted, I too said some of the proposals were laughable and people got offended. No team in this league is going to take our scraps unless we take a problem off of their hands…..like Souray. So lets get out of dream land and make a realistic proposal. In Atl. Buff is the second coming of Christ for them. He’s staying there for a long time.

The only realistic deal is the 1st one.

Which isn’t very possible. The 4th one if FAR from ever happening, same with the 2nd and 3rd deal. We really need people to not be biased when posting trades here.
