Rangers News: Some Gameday Notes
Martin Biron will start tonight against the Islanders, according to Jesse Spector over at the Daily News.
DP in goal for the Fish Sticks. Ricky is 11-12-2 lifetime against the Rangers, with a GAA of 3.14. Dipietro will be playing in his 11th game of the season tonight, or two less than he has played the last two seasons combined. Only 11 years to go on that contract Islander fans, hang in there. I will be buying my four year old daughter a prom dress when that contract expires.
Derek Stepan has been working with Mark Messier again on his faceoffs: (Andrew Gross)
"My faceoffs (stink) right now," Stepan said. "I think it’s a mentality. Brian Boyle said to me it’s hard to win a faceoff when you’ve lost a couple in a row. It’s trying to find the right track. The last four four games I’ve been absolutely terrible. I’m overthinking it."
Joe previewed the home and home over at SB Nation NY
It should come as no surprise to you that the Rangers are one of the most profitable teams in the NHL, but also the second most valuable to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
As I am sure you have all heard, Sean Avery will be getting first line ice time with Marian Gaborik tonight. I am personally setting the over/under on shifts they take together at 6.
Puck Daddy is throwing a Viewing Party tomorrow night in NYC, the info can be found here.

prospal stepan gaborik
dubinsky anisimov callahan
avery boyle fedotenko
boogey drury prust

"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."
LET'S GO RANGERS!!!
aves with gabs

clearly Torts is obsessed with giving chance to christensen and gabby.

I have no problem with the Biron start tonight, I expected him to get one against the Isles. I have to ask why Torts feels compelled to make excuses for doing it that are just bogus on the face. I mean Henrik needs an extra day after two days off? Come on don’t treat us like we are retarded.
My recommendation to Avery was do something within 3 shifts.

I don't think it was a bogus excuse
He said Biron had been sitting, and he wanted to get him in, and this would give Hank an extra day to work. Hank is coming off a 2 day break, if you start him tonight, then he’s off Friday and Saturday, and starts Sunday. This was Marty start, Hank gets a 3 day break and starts 2 games in 3 days, before the team has another 3 day break
wanting to get biron is legit the excuse was that hank needed an extra day of rest.

Aves has been on fire since he took that 4 min high sticking penalty. I think he deserves a shot, and am glad to see him moved off of the 4th line. Hopefully his work ethic and his great passing ability will help him mesh well with Gabby.
I just think he can draw some attention away from Gaborik, been saying it for a year.

totally agree Jim – I mentioned that also in my very first BB post, over a year ago.
It’s a possibility, certainly, that it’ll create space for Gabby, and it may spark Sean’s game.
When both of them are playing well, they demand attention from the opposition.
Let’s just hope Taveres doesn’t slew foot Avery and get Avery a game misconduct.

agreed, should be fun to see avery, step, and gabby together
i think that could work in the other direction as well
if they ignore avery and focus on gabby, avery will make them pay

I kind of expected Biron to get the start tonight
It seems a perfect set up…its a high caliber game technically away from home and its the front end of a back to back…besides, i think marty would like to show the fish sticks what couldve been last season
Im predicting ..
A huge Game from Aves tonight! Man could he use one. Wouldn’t mind seeing Gilly put one home either.
Off the subject and sorry to steal the thread but How about this trade?
Kennedy & Gilroy for Wheeler?
Where
Would you place Wheeler in the lineup?

He seems to have been kind of a disappointment since his rookie year? I think he’s got the tools to be a good player, but so far the Rangers have gotten equivalent production from their players that get similar amounts of ice time. He doesn’t seem to do much on the PP and the Rangers are stocked with guys to throw on the PK.

I get what you are saying, but the fact of the matter is that they’ve tried just about everything else to get Gabby’s game going, why not try this?
If this doesn’t work, Gilroy will center him tomorrow night with Zots on the other wing.

Isn’t amazing that the Rangers are where they are without Gaborik scoring consistenly and Lundqvist not standing on his head most nights. Without Gaborik and Lundqvist at world class levels, most people would not have expected the Rangers to be over .500.

Well I think if you had told most Ranger fans before the season that 25 games in Dubinsky and Boyle would be double digits in goals, they would have called for the men in white coats

Since we are talking Isles vs Rangers anyone remember the press conference after our embarrassing game in the first of a back to back against them and the tirade torts went on? Let’s hope we do not have a reason for him to do this again.
