NHL News: Merry Christmas Johnny Mac, You're Fired. Welcome Back to The Combover
In case you haven't heard, the New Jersey Devils have relieved (and I believe "relieved" is the key word) John MacLean of his duties as head coach.
GM Lou Lamoriello has returned to a familiar face to guide the Devils for the remainder of this season, as Jacques Lemaire has been brought back to coach the team for a third time.
"John has done an exceptional job. I have no issue with him. Our record certainly isn't what any of us like, but it has nothing to do with coaching." Lamoriello said.
Right.
Yippie-Kay-Yay!
Anyway, how's this for a Christmas present: Your New York Rangers, once the laughingstock of the league, and the very poster boys for instability and poor management, are now the prudent and stable franchise in NY hockey. Enjoy!

I can see the thought bubble
“I paid out how much for that commie bastard? FML”
"If I had the Rangers payroll, I'd make the playoffs every year" Glen Sather
It took them 30 years to implement the forward pass and 70 to mandate helmets thus making all hockey players who wear helmets and visors as well as goalies who wear masks and pads all wimpy cry babies

I got a lot of problems with you people! And now, you’re gonna hear about it. You, Kruger. My son tells me your company stinks! You couldn’t smooth a silk sheet if you had a hot date with a babe…I lost my train of thought."
Nice
Happy Festivus boys.

Isn't the character's name
John McLane?
Either way, take away the Devils strong regular seasons and you get a team that isn’t too different than the Rangers in terms of accomplishments (modest as they may be).
But Lou has gone terribly against the grain with how he’s built that team since the lockout (bringing back some really really old guys, not drafting too well, handing out NTC and NMCs like they’re candy). Still, I’m not going to shed even a crocodile tear over how much of a fustercluck that team over there has become.

The spelling doesn’t matter, c’mon!
If his name was Fred Flyntstone, would that prevent us from making “Yabba Dabba Doo” jokes?

Would that be Parise having his ribs used for Fatso’s bi-hourly snack?
by MyFavBaseballSquadron on Dec 23, 2010 12:10 PM EST up reply actions
no because parise picks up fatso’s ribs from the drive through on the way to the movies…they somehow get affixed to the side of zach’s car

It will be interesting to see if the team responds or continues to fail like the islanders did after their change.
My money is on no difference in the win column.

I've always marveled at how perfectly round Lou Lamoriello's dome is.
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
As much as I dislike the devils, I do not want them ending up with a top 3 draft pick. If they can start winning some games, especially against those teams the rangers will compete with for playoff position, that would be great.
Beat some teams to help the rangers, win enough to lose out on a top draft pick. I think that would lead to a longer drougth for them long term.
Same with the islanders. I hate them with a passion, but no more top draft picks please!

Classless
I see that the holiday roster freeze doesn’t apply for coaches. It’s always awkward for a parting gift to double as a Christmas present. Merry Christmas to somebody regarded as “Mr. Devil” – Why couldn’t they have done this a week ago or next week? For a Ranger fan who respects Lamoriello, he has now made two BIG wrong moves recently: the Kovalchuk signing and the timing of Johnny Mac’s dismissal.
They fired Johnny Mac?
One of the greatest Rangers of all time?
