Olympic Trade Deadline Open Thread

3 PM this afternoon is the Olympic trade deadline. No players can be moved after today until after the Olympics. We'll keep this thread open until later on today and keep it updated as best as we can.

Unfortunately, I will be at a business seminar all day today, and will probably have no idea what's going on until later in the day. Although Joe and NIck usually keep me up to date via text.

Have at it guys, but go easy on the rumors from you-know-who.

Just the type of reclamation project Darth Sather would go after….“he just needs a change of scenery”.

Yeah, like Kotalik.

isnt he a RFA after this year..

maybe not at 3.5 but at 1.75… we could pick him up and maybe he clicks with someone on our team and we resign him for a small price after this season or maybe he doesnt and we let him go

LETS GO RANGERS!!!! SECTION 405!!!!!

What about?

Ok so Brashear cleared waivers…
Anyone think it would be in the Rangers interest to acquire Brad May (just placed on waivers from DET)?

I know we now have Prust but he’s more of a middle weight. I always liked May and thought he could add toughness to this team.
Your thoughts?

2 hours left, i wonder if slates can do something. I wonder how much having an away game tonight messes with things.

anybody read florida's letter

pretty much saying we suck everyone must go where gonna tank and try the pittsburgh approach to win a cup

read it! why can’t slater/Dolan come up with something like that

by Strades on Feb 12, 2010 12:35 PM EST up reply actions

if they get horton out of florida then i dont need the letter, lol.

by Michael Gleich on Feb 12, 2010 12:36 PM EST up reply actions

to answer why though it is simple. 1. the long time gm who ran florida in the ground left last year so the new guy can write the letter starting over. 2. it’s florida and not ny.

by Michael Gleich on Feb 12, 2010 12:41 PM EST up reply actions

i wouldnt mind seeing what they want for booth

by b4mv01 on Feb 12, 2010 12:36 PM EST up reply actions

he keeps saying rangers and oilers are possible to make a trade, they only guy i’d take from edmonton is strudwick

by mjbnyr on Feb 12, 2010 12:44 PM EST reply actions

Really? For what reason would you want him back compared to some of there other players?

by b4mv01 on Feb 12, 2010 12:46 PM EST up reply actions

i always liked strudwick, hes a lot tougher than the r&r sisters

by mjbnyr on Feb 12, 2010 12:48 PM EST up reply actions

Oh my

Read coppernblue on SBN. Strudwick gets their 20th star like every game. He’s had an absolutely abysmal year.

Drury & Rozsival for Penner & Souray straight up!

by Mike_from_NNJ on Feb 12, 2010 12:46 PM EST up reply actions

how many times does it need to be repeated that drury has a full No Movement Clause so putting him in trades or talking about sending him down to hartford is pointless?

by Michael Gleich on Feb 12, 2010 12:48 PM EST up reply actions

I was being facetious. Sheeesh. Like Edmonton would do it even if Drury waived his NMC.

by Mike_from_NNJ on Feb 12, 2010 12:49 PM EST up reply actions

horcoff’s contract is actually worse than drury’s believe it or not.

by Michael Gleich on Feb 12, 2010 12:50 PM EST up reply actions

also it wasnt meant to be mean or anything just have to stamp it out before more people keep bringing it up today…lol.

by Michael Gleich on Feb 12, 2010 12:52 PM EST up reply actions

It's cool

No offense taken.
BTW: What is Horcoff’s contract?

by Mike_from_NNJ on Feb 12, 2010 12:57 PM EST up reply actions

5.5 mil for 5 more years.

by Michael Gleich on Feb 12, 2010 12:57 PM EST up reply actions

I’d trde Drury and Reden for a broken stick, but the trueth is the stick is worth more. Oh yeah and the no trade clause.

by CTrangerfan on Feb 12, 2010 12:58 PM EST up reply actions

Drury is valuable to this team but obviously not for his large contract

by Michael Gleich on Feb 12, 2010 1:35 PM EST up reply actions

more like 3-4 hrs before they are done announcing stuff, but yea.

also depends on the definition of big. no huge names have really been out there now that kovy is already moved, so if that is what you mean by big than yea.

by Michael Gleich on Feb 12, 2010 1:15 PM EST up reply actions

also with a lot of teams still “thinking” they are in the hunt not a whole lot of sellers out there. could change w the 4 days of games after the freeze and before the deadline. also this mini deadline could have some who move (especially close to the freeze) and cause their counterparts to have to respond after the olympics

by Michael Gleich on Feb 12, 2010 1:20 PM EST up reply actions

i think if the rangers really want horton

they are gonna wait till march 3rd to see how this time off helps heal his leg

by mjbnyr on Feb 12, 2010 1:22 PM EST reply actions

my guess says if sexton is really serious as he sounds like he is in this nuclear approach horton and many others might get moved today. as for the leg, it was a clean break that didnt require any surgery so it is not a question mark, plus as i have said before a move for horton while helpful this year is about the future.

i started this discussion in the other thread.

moore got a 2nd
cullen got a 2nd and a solid young d-man
whitney is supposedly going to net a 1 or 2
ponikarovsky is going to get a 2
yet we are bagging a chance to get at least a 2 for prospal

by Michael Gleich on Feb 12, 2010 1:53 PM EST up reply actions

We could easily get an early 2nd/4th, or a 25+ overall 1st for Prospal. He seems to be a Modano-type guy who will be able to play into his early 40s.

Like looking in a mirror...

Here’s a TSN Fan post about Edmonton’s current situation, and how management ran their team into the ground…sound familiar?

It is encouraging to see that Katz is focused on drafting and development. I expect for someone who has been so successful in business the current situation is unacceptable. But the Oilers are going to have to shed some dead weight and cap space if they intend to rebuild this team. Hopefully in 2 years we’ll have a couple good young players and the cap space to go after someone big. Lowe messed this team up by signing mediocre players to rich contracts, and his legacy will need to be cleaned up before we move forward.

Rangers are 2-8-0 in last 10, against similar competition they’ll be facing from here on out.
The “worst” team point wise on the remaining 22 games schedule is Toronto – but that’s not representative of how they’ve been playing of late (esp. since the Phaneuf move). They are a much better team at this juncture.

If they maintain “pace” and go 5-17-0, that means a 69 point finish. If Toronto plays .500 hockey and goes 11-11-0, they end up with 71 points.

Finishing anywhere from 3rd worst to 7th worst is absolutely possible.

idk he is about to be 32 and has had an average year now that jacques is gone so if you get a young guy like niemi and a scorer like sharp i think you do it and spend the 6 mil to improve the overall team.

right now to me no move is good cause by the time the deadline comes even though it is only 4 days of games we could be even further back and as forced as possible w sather to sell.

by Michael Gleich on Feb 12, 2010 2:59 PM EST reply actions

Of course if we miraculously win our next 3 we can forget about selling.

come on, lets be realistic…beat pitt in pitt probably w/o gabby and a sick staal?

tampa maybe we win and then @ott after the break.

flip side is montreal and philly split next two nights they got to 66 and 65 and if tampa beats us they are at least 65.

by Michael Gleich on Feb 12, 2010 3:04 PM EST up reply actions

Thus, miraculously.

i.e. Need divine intervention to do so.

With luck they lose 15-4 over the 3 games and maybe they can go full firesale.

Oh yeah, everything has broken perfect so far.

Yeah, Carolina selling is a problem. I just wonder what will happen if we finish 3rd and Hall/Seguin go 1-2. Do we take Fowler?

by George E. Ays on Feb 12, 2010 3:16 PM EST up reply actions

db and i were discussing this just this morning thru twitter. you have to consider it and then maybe trade sangs/mcdonagh to get a forward. it is a tough call cause he is going to be special. hopefully we get 2nd and wont have to worry about that.

by Michael Gleich on Feb 12, 2010 3:18 PM EST up reply actions

if carolina held onto whitney at least thru the freeze could help them add a few points as well.

by Michael Gleich on Feb 12, 2010 3:11 PM EST up reply actions

but yes it would be like them to screw up a perfectly good plan.

I think I’m started to understand Sather’s grand plan, and it’s AWESOME!

We pick up as many dead-weight goons as we can, and every upcoming game we dress 2 of them. Anytime we play a team above us in the standings, 1 goon takes out their goalie, the other goes after their best player. Figure by the time the playoffs roll around we’ll have the best goalie and forward in the East!

Though I really think Sather finally found Redden’s stash of coke and has been raiding it since yesterday afternoon. Can’t wait to see what’s next!

love Shelley

Great move, never hurts to have a true top enforcer to protect your team, the only issue is getting the coach to give him ice time regardless of the situation. Enforcers cannot enforce when they don’t dress or hit the ice. Shelley has been a top enforcer for a long time and can handle getting regular shifts. IF they use him, its a great acquisition.
