The Swedish hockey team, defending Olympic champions featuring Vancouver Canucks Daniel and Henrik Sedin and former Canuck Mattius Ohlund, beat Germany by a score of 2-0 Wednesday in tournament action.

Despite a breackneck 3rd period that saw the Germans launching themselves across the ice like soccer goalies in the desperate pursuit of a goal, the Swedes held out for a solid if unimpressive win.

Fans of Swedish hockey had to be excited to see Peter Forsberg back on North American ice. He looked strong in the early going, using his size and speed to create scoring chances for his teammates.

The physical play got turned up a notch in the second frame as Swedish defenceman Johnny Oduya drilled Marco Sturm from behind, drawing a 10-minute misconduct for his efforts and giving the Germans a 5-on-3 advantage for over a minute.

Henrik is the man.

On a related note, what is up with Chad Johnson? He has been beyond abysmal since his return to Hartford. Looks like Lundqvist is gonna have to start every game from here on out.
