I HATE TO SAY THIS BUT.......
I absolutely love Ryan Callahan and Chris Drury when they are not pushed to be first and second liners. These 2 are the quintessential 3rd/4th line energy players, and fantastic penalty killers. When not put in scoring positions they are at there absolute finest, blocking shots, killing penalties, throwing hits, and providing energy for the whole team. I can see why teams are always asking for Calli in trades and I am sure if Drury was more reasonably priced he would be a pretty hot commodity. If any contending team was able to add 1 or both of these players at the deadline I think they would seriously increase their chances.

Completly agree
I said it once and I’ll say it again they are not 1st or 2nd liners…at least not at this point in their career. Them two playing as well as they are in Canada shows how they might be two of the best role players in the league today. I will say this about drury, since the first game gabby missed from the laceration before the break he has turned it up. I don’t know if he was excited for the olympics or whatever it may be he has turned it up a little.

I also completely agree
It’s not so much anymore a shocking statement to make about Drury, but it seems to be shocking when said about Callahan. I have always believed that Callahan was never a first or second line player. His game and style of play is your classic third line grinder who can score a couple of goals here & there. I think because he is so loved by the fans (much like Graves was) the fans feel like he should be at least a second liner. Callahan is very similar to Graves as a player but Graves was able to score a lot more than Callahan does. I’m also not a big fan of Callahan being a first PP unit player either. I don’t dislike Callahan, but I think the majority of fans out there think he’s more than what he is. Unfortunately we have very few players to actually fill out the top two lines so Callahan by default is placed there. Hopefully through another year of experience, a smart FA signing, or a prospect ready to make the jump to the NHL, can this team begin to solve their current offensive problems.
Callahan on first PP unit
I agree that he shouldn’t be on the PP unit. Voros should be able to, but has proven incapable of playing in front of the net on the PP, a la Tomas Holmstrom on the Wings (the best at it in the league, imo). But Anisimov or Lisin should be given first unit PP time — both have better playmaking and puckhandling skills that should complement Prospal/Gaborik and take pressure off them. With Prospal, Gaborik, Anisimov, MDZ and Rosival (yes, I said it, the R word), our PP should be very effective.
On the other hand, I agree with Steeeve — why would we even consider moving Callahan — he’s had the chance to be more than a 3rd line grinder and proven he can’t produce at the higher level so his contracts going forward should be a relative bargain, given the incredible work ethos and energy he provides.
Callahan and Drury
were both Awesome the last 2 games! I wish Drury could play like that for us when he comes back. Maybe he should just stay on the 4th line.
he had been much better on the 4th line.

I know Drury’s contract is a monster but if a team like Washington, Chicago, or San Jose could add these 2 I think it would be lights out. Adding guys like Kovalchuk, Phaneuf, or Souray may be a “sexier” move, but these are the types of guys that win you championships.
P.S- Thanks for promoting me to the main page.
If they'd help a contending team
Why the hell would we trade them?

That doesnt mean we wont be contending next year
Are we supposed to trade them now then trade back for them later? Why give away the pieces we already have? Might as well get rid of Hank and Gabby too, seeing as we arent contending this year.

i have said it all along put cali on a team that has a true first and second line and he would fit in great on the rangers hes not a good fit cause all our lines suck
Callahan MIGHT be a 2nd line player
if he continues to play really well and work really hard. He scored 22 goals on a team that didn’t score goals last year and hes gonna do the same this year. He is a guy that ANY TEAM WOULD KILL TO HAVE. Period.
Blueshirt Banter: Covering the New York Rangers the only NHL team with three home arenas.
MAKES sense
to actually put them on the third line in order to find proven scorers. sure, drury may be overpaid, but hes there to do what he does best. theyre great 2-way checkers, not proven goalscorers.
i can see cally as a top 6 guy.. if he can put up 50 points a year or so he can def. be that.
but yeah hes a great role player to have. any team would love to have him.
drury is all a great role player. great pker.. and is a real good defensive player. its not his fault sather gave him the contract, it justs hurts the team a lot
LET'S GO RANGERS!!!
At this point the best thing the Rangers can do is either trade these big contracts or act like they dont exist. Just because Drury gets paid a boatload, it doesnt mean he should get more minutes then a better player getting paid less. Rangers have to settle there top 6, because there bottom 6 can potentially be great.
