NHL News: Brendan Burke, son of Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke killed in car crash
Brendan Burke, the son Toronto GM Brian Burke, was killed earlier today in a car crash in Indiana.
The incident occurred in Wayne County, Ind., when a black Jeep lost control and slid into the westbound lane of U.S. 35 and hit another vehicle head on.
Police told the Toronto Star that Burke was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee when the vehicle slid sideways into the path of a Ford truck. Burke's friend, 18-year-old Mark Reedy, also died in the accident.
Below is a statement from Dave Ogrean, executive director of USA Hockey, on Burke's passing. Brian Burke is also the general manager of the 2010 U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team. Brendan, 21, died tonight in an automobile accident in Wayne County, Indiana.
"Our heart goes out to Brian and his family in this very difficult time. We know the prayers of the entire hockey family, including our Olympic Team, are with the Burke family."
We here at Blueshirt Banter would like to send our prayers and thoughts to the Burke and Reedy families during this difficult time.

I'm sorry excuse my language...
But Jesus Christ. This is absolutely horrible. No body deserves this, especially a family like the Burkes’. Everyone just take this into perspective and just realize sport from real life. My prayers go out to the Burke family.

That's terrible
I’m currently distraught over the loss of my dog. I cant even imagine losing a son. That has to be the absolute worst thing in the world, losing your own flesh and blood.
RIP.

Ohhh No
This is horrible, no one deserves to bury their own child. At this point words can’t describe anything as to how tragic such an event is. I just wish and hope everything turns out alright for the Burke family.
Eesh
I remember reading this article about Brendan just a few weeks ago: http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/columns/story?columnist=buccigross_john&id=4685761
It was so hopeful about Brendan’s possibilities in hockey and following in his father’s footsteps as a great hockey mind. It also showed how close he became with his father in recent years.
This is really a tragic loss for hockey and the Burkes. I know that all of our thoughts and prayers are with them.
R.I.P.
Very sad.
Sometimes I think the general statements passed out are getting a bit old. A girl died at the local school the other day and the principal spoke as if he never even knew the girl saying something along the lines of “We are saddened by the death of a wonderful person.”
Next, a teacher came on and gave this beautiful speech about how great of a person she was and in times of trouble this should not be happening that one of the few good people out there is taken away. He listed specific instances where she was in inspiration, it was very moving.
Maybe they didn’t know Brendan, but I wish the statements would start to be more insightful and caring than just a “thoughts and prayers with the family”
