Why Sell?

I know this is the hot topic on everyone's minds, I just wanted to offer my two cents and see what the other members of this blog think.

I know a lot of you guys feel the Rangers should be selling off players now, but I ask you, who would you guys like to sell?  I am sure most of you realize that a good portion of the Rangers NHL roster is under 26 years old and still developing, right?  Why not hold on to to the only sell-able asset, Prospal, and see what this team can do in the postseason?

Did we all forget that last year's team, which is much less talented than this year's edition, had three chances to knock off a very strong Caps team?  The Rangers have the best GK in the game.  When you have a guy like Henke between the pipes you can steal any series.  At the very least it's some exposure to playoff hockey, best case scenario the team cobbles together a couple of series victories.

Over the past four years the Rangers organization has shown, year after year, that they can take a mid-first round selection, which is likely what they will end up with again this year, and turn it into a quality NHL player (e.g. Staal, Cherepanov RIP, Sanguinetti, Del Zotto).  Just be patient, let Torts build a team with his players, let Drury, R&R go away and let Staal, Del Zotto, Anisimov, Lisin, Callahan, Dubinsky and Girardi develop further and give some time for Saguinetti, Stepan, McDonagh and Grachev to join the NHL party.  This team is *loaded* with quality young players.  I have never seen anything like this in the 26 years I've been a Rangers fan.  Sather does have a plan, it's a *very* long term plan, but it is indeed a plan.

Thanks!

Problem is Drury, Rosival and Redden

aren’t going away any time soon. And those are the players we want to sell anyway…

Sather has a very warped long term plan as he’s the one who signed Brashear, Redden, Kotalik, Gomez and Drury (these 2 I liked tho….)

He just gets himself into a mess then has to pull off houdini trades in order to make them right.

Sather runs in neutral with his ’plan" entirely too much.

Rectum? Damn near killed em!

Yeah, but the idea of selling is to give up something of value that hurts your team now and helps down the road. Dealing Rozsival would help the Rangers tremendously. He’s become immobile. His mobility allowed him to create space for himself to make great breakout passes. Now Rozsival is so slow, opposing wingers on him instantly and all he does is flub the puck.

And just so you know, Rozsival only has two years left on his deal (and since his contract is frontloaded a team trying to reach the annual Salary Floor would love to have him after this season), Drury three and Redden … well I’m not going to go into details of the Big Sulk. Hopefully Redden does the honorable thing like Naslund did and retires soon.

Yes, the Brashear deal is inexcusable, but still, it’s only $1.6M in cap space next year, not crippling, just stupid. Kotalik, much like the Gomez deal, Sather fixed the problem and ultimately might have found the PP QB he was looking for in Jokinen. If Sather doesn’t resign Olli then you really can’t say a bad thing about the Kotalik deal.

Brash is 1.4 mil.

No one is talking about selling the young. I’m talking about selling Prospal for more picks as he is a FA that if they want him back could bring him back anyway. I’m talking about selling Girardi if they dont think they are going to sign him anyway, especially since Girardi’s game has regressed in Tort’s system. Also seeing if there is a market for Rozi to clear cap space. that’s it, so let’s not act like we are talking about trading away the young guys.

Can we create solid players out of mid-late 1st’s sure, but let’s remember how we got some of them as well. Staal we traded up to get at 12, Chere fell over KHL fears but was a top 5 talent, Sangs hasnt proven anything at the NHL level yet and while a great offensive player when he came out was seen as a defensive liability. There is a reason guys like Sangs are there at 20 and guys like Doughty arent. So instead of adding another pretty good piece, many of which have taken 2-4 years to get here other than MDZ why not have a true top 5 talent that could be ready this year or 1 year from now. Look at how players like Duchene are playing as rookies, or look at Stamkos as a 2nd year guy, so let’s remember why some guys go mid first and can be very solid players vs franchise players that go in the top 5 most times.

Only way we get rid of Prospal is if we get a 1st round pick for him… and that’s only if the only way we make it to the playoffs is if we buy tickets to see it.

i would trade prospal and girardi

i hate girardi and if we could get a 1st for prospal i would do it.. we will likely make the playoffs no matter what we do but i do agree with most of what you said

LETS GO RANGERS!!!! SECTION 405!!!!!

No way .............

in hell we get a first rounder for Prospal… Do you know how valuable a first rounder is in the NHL. There is no possible way we get a 1 for Vinny. Hes good but the 2010 draft is oozing with talent. Maybe a second or third rounder like the Antropov deal…..Good post caonenine.. I agree totally. The kids in our system are good young players. Unfortunately most Ranger fans think the team is supposed to win the cup year after year. This team is gonna be really really REALLY good in say…..3 years.

lol

yup, we’ve heard that story before. Win the cup every single year. Yup, 1 stanley cup in 70 years will set those kind of expectations. Get the fuck off your horse.

People

Dont realize that our scouts have done a rather good job with our past few drafts. Sometimes kids dont work out but you need to give them time to develop…. Everyone gets on Duby. Hes 22. He will be a good scoring NHL center in a couple of years and he battles every night to make up for his shortcomings.
