NOT GOOD...

Per Andrew Gross:

Marian Gaborik just skated gingerly off the ice at this morning’s Ranger practice, favoring his right leg. The team was doing a one-on-one drill and Gaborik came in on Henrik Lundqvist, who dove out to try and poke check the puck away. Gaborik tried jumping over Lundqvist and instead slid face first toward the corner, remaining on the ice for about a half minute as Lundqvist checked on him.

Gaborik then skated toward the bench bent over, holding up his right leg.

the news doesnt seem any better w these tweets:

@stevezipay Lundqvist: “My skate hit his (Gaborik’s) knee”.Told that at first writers thought Gaborik was joking, Lundqvist said: “Me, too.” He wasn’t.

@stevezipay Gaborik won’t be speaking today, team spokesman says

i assume that is pretty normal but it still doesnt sound like a positive sign.

Remember earlier in the season during a Rangers/Coyotes game he left the ice near the end of the third favoring his knee… this could have exacerbated that… God, I hope not… We just got done thinking that his injury woes were over, and he might play 80 games this season _

He missed 2 games.

by Kritikal on Feb 9, 2010 12:27 PM EST up reply actions

If he’s injured, lets go straight for that #1 spot. Trade down to #2 and get Seguin if #1 is taking Hall.

no way we would catch edm.

Don’t have to catch Edmonton. Get to #2 and beat them in the lottery.

well that wasnt what he said, lol. we cant catch them for number 1 in the lotto, but yes we could beat them in the lottery. i would suspect they keep him out tomorrow even if it is just stitches and play him friday at the earliest.

If it’s really just a cut then yeah, he won’t miss much time. If it’s something else, he’s probably done til after the break.

Maybe the Islanders will do something stupid, like pick Campbell (G) in the top 5… follow in Milbury’s footsteps :P

better news:

@AGrossRecord #NYRangers assistant Jim Schoenfeld said Marian Gaborik suffered a knee laceration and is being stitched.

@AGrossRecord #NYRangers assistant Jim Schoenfeld said, right now, team does not believe Marian Gaborik injury anything more serious than a laceration.

@AGrossRecord #NYRangers assistant Jim Schoenfeld said it’s too early to say whether Marian Gaborik will be available tomorrow vs. the #Predators.

Getting my hopes up for a season tank :(

But I guess Gabby needs to make up for the couple games he missed and the cold streak he hit when Prospal came back.

Don’t take anything NYR management says at face value. You know there’s always a smokescreen.

exactly my thought when schoney hedged about being available tomorrow and them not letting gabby talk today. we will know more if they x-ray/mri him.

Sounds better. A laceration is still a pretty bad cut, but it’s hockey, and hockey players play through everything.

i only worry about where it is on the knee and the number of stitches because placement on the knee could impact flexibility if that makes sense.

by Michael Gleich on Feb 9, 2010 12:45 PM EST up reply actions

Still possibly good news though, I’ll take a laceration over structural damage anyday.
