Around SBN: Knicks 90, Raptors 87: "Shump and Lin wouldn't let us lose."

This TSN article lists the players with highest intangibles for each NHL team. Ryan Callahan is the top one on the Rangers. Interesting read.

Cal’s got the highest “Intangible rating” in the NHL, which is why he is an Olympian and a fan favorite

I found it interesting that Cally was far and away the highest in the league – not surprising that he was highest on the Rangers at all.

What was surprising is how high Girardi scored. For all the trash many of us have laid on him………well – I believe he deserves a break – and I’ve believed that prior to reading the article.

Thanks for posting that link.

The metric is measuring blocked shots, penalties and hits, areas where Girardi is pretty good. To say because of this the criticism of him is unfounded however isn’t really true.

Did you know Girardi leads all Rangers in shots that were blocked @ ES? Interesting, Cally is 3rd on that list also. Of course, he’s had a better season overall than say, Redden.

And obviously Cally is going to lead this list. He’s among the league lead in hits, BS, and he doesn’t take many penalties, and he’s even taken some faceoffs

It’s an interesting list, and certainly could be used as tiebreakers between players I guess (say, the everlasting Dubi/Cally debate), but it’s like anything else, it’s just one reference point in a body of work.
