How do I love thee? 6.5 million ways!!
Once upon a time, there was a defenseman.
And he played in Ottawa - in the land called Canada.
And he was good.
Not great. Good. Not "faaaab-u-lous". Just "good".
And the rulers of Ottawa were wise - and they took counsel with themselves and said "Lo - let him go to the unrestricted free agency! For we have seen him play, and he is not worth the ransom he wants to continue to play here in Ottawa, in the land called Canada".
And lo - unto unrestricted free agency he didst enter.
More - after "the jump".....
And the rulers of the New York Rangers looked at those entering unrestricted free agency.
And they coveted this defenseman. Greatly.
They said: "LO! Look at this defenseman!! He is 'the best first passer in the game !!' We must have him here in the Garden of Madison, Square! "
And they proclaimed their desire to this defenseman - and lavished him with promises of riches beyond compare, and a long contract, and even a Clause of No Trade !
And the defenseman, humbled no doubt by this attention, agreed.
And the Rangers Rulers loudly proclaimed at the announcement of the agreement:
"He is our NUMBER ONE GUY!! He is the best first passer in the game!!"

Haha. It would be even funnier if it happened to a different team.

I disagree about one thing though DB
Redden WAS amazing at one point during his career. There were points and times when I would have killed to have him on the Rangers. From 2000-2001 to 2005-2006 he was a great defender. Not no more however. Oh how the mighty have fallen …

to your point joe i think we forget because of how freaking bad he is now that Ottawa chose to bring him back and let Chara go to Boston.

You’re correct – and I don’t dispute that. He was excellent at one point in time.
I was focusing strictly on the point in time when Ottawa let him go to UFA and the NYR signed him…

What’s funny, his last year in OTT was one of his worst.
Sather overpaid for a guy coming off a below average year. Oy. And gave him 6 years to boot.

Tragedy or Comedy?
All in the eye of the beholder. In our eyes, tragic. For 29 other NHL Teams…Priceless Comedy.

well then he would have missed the net like usual last night instead of scoring, for us at least.
