Is anyone else pissed that Gaborik saw fit to play injured in a Bronze game and is now too injured to play for the team that actually pays him?! I am.
i expect a lot of others agree with you and predicted this during the bronze game.

Im upset too, but I understand where he and his team coaches are coming from.

I will only be pissed if we still consider ourselves “buyers” and make a bunch of horse shit moves to try to get in the playoffs despite Gabby being a question mark. I know it is a serious long shot, but if Gabby’s questionable status changes the philosophy and causes us to be sellers instead of buyers than it very well may be a huge gift is disguise. We need to get what we can for guys like Prospal, Girardi, Christensen, etc. And then, by the grace of God, hopefully Sather steps down in the off season and we can start the process of building a “team” instead of collecting individuals.
for that to have been in any way realistic we would have had to lose those two games right before the break and be 5 or 6 out of the playoffs with an injured gabby. as it sounds he is only day to day for now. i dont think it can be that bad if he played the entire game saturday night even if he wasnt 100% in the game.

As ridiculous as that sounds (putting so much emphasis on 2 games), that is exactly the shortsightedness that has ruined this organization.
i dont disagree but the difference b/w 5-6 out and 1-2 out w 20 games is significant

This might be an insane idea, but I wonder if the Olympics powers-that-be would consider putting the hockey competition in the Summer rather than Winter Olympics. Kenny Albert mentioned that in the first few Olympics of the 20th Century this was the case. Obviously this would avoid all of the issues that a big mid-season break raises.
how would that work since the games are played in August for the summer Olympics? & the ice conditions are bad enough in june in certain cities for the playoffs when its maybe 80 degrees. I think it would cause more problems, a 2 week hiatus isnt a big deal to me honestly when the best players in the world are all coming together to compete.

I would imagine in 2014 the hiatus will be even longer when you consider that NHL players will have to travel to the other side of the world to compete in Russia. Maybe an alternative solution is to start the season a week or so earlier and/or end it a week or so later so the games aren’t so tightly packed.
This was mentioned...
on Hockey Night in Canada (Sirius Radio). Basically saying that if the season started a week or so earlier and/or eliminating some preseason games. Since players don’t use Training Camp to get into shape but rather come to camp already in shape, I could see this as a solution or at least part of it.

theres a big diff between being in shape and being in game shape....
Conditioning is key for hockey players and you only get that by playing in games not by riding a stationary bike.

Im sorry, look at this line-up! There are no decent line combinations. No defensive parings that I want on the ice. Unless someone steps up, this is going to be a rough one. Get ready for a 1-1 game through 2 periods and a third period collapse
From Larry Brooks blog:
“Gaborik is believed to have suffered a groin pull during the tournament after adapting his skating style in order to be able to cope with the deep thigh wound he sustained in a Feb. 9 practice mishap involving Henrik Lundqvist.”
should we start the countdown to opening day?
or rather, start counting down til the Yankees raise a banner & Jose Reyes pops a hamstring?

i talked about this during the olympics how gabby trying to come back quick from injuries to prove he wasnt fragile (even playing in pitt before the break) was going to lead to either aggravating whatever injury he had or cause a different one.
if it is a pull he should be out a couple weeks and we should definitely sell, maybe a blessing in disguise if that ends up the outcome.

The Gaborik injury is a blessing IMO
Close shop and SELL.
