Rangers New: Larry Brooks tweets that Enver Lisin and Aaron Voros are on waivers
Wow, very interesting move here by Sather.Larry Brooks has tweeted that the Rangers have waived Enver Lisin and Aaron Voros:
Voros Lisin on waivers
Just a moment to make a comment here but John Tortorella and Lisin never really clicked. I always liked Lisin, I always liked what he brought to the ice, but for whatever reason he was always on Tortorella's "bad side." I thought that Lisin was good for this team, I thought that he cared about winning, and I always loved his speed. Regardless the Rangers didn't seem the same things, I guess, and would rather have the cap space and the roster spot.
This move, of course, now makes the Lauri Korpikoski trade seem like yet another head scratcher.
As for Voros, what can you say? The guy was never used, and his best asset was definitely his personality. You had to figure he was out the door when the Rangers traded for Jody Shelley.
By the way these are the moves I was talking about the Rangers making in my post about an hour ago. Obviously these moves are for cap space.
Voros makes 1 million which will come off the books and Lisin makes 790K. There might be a trade in the works too, but again, that's just speculation. It just seems odd for the Rangers to make these two moves for "nothing."
Thoughts?

first thought is bringing up their salary is misleading since their value from this point is approx 1/4 of that, but yes it will save the rangers 400K or able to take back an extra 1.7 season cap hit in a move which makes me more nervous when dealing w sather that he will buy a player with a large without making a team take back a big hit.
also we cant send them both down and have enough forwards can we?
they were waived. Not demoted (yet) – and can’t be until they clear.
Until they clear waivers they’re part of the Rangers NHL roster.

understood, which is why i said misleading as well. question is if you are going to waive voros now why didnt you do it before the break to save more days on the cap?

Who cares about saving money/cap?

Well – to your point – if he really wanted to buy – why didn’t they get waived pre-Olympics? That would have been an extra $129k available on this years total cap hit….

round robin LOL
My somewhat satirical/sarcastic question was to point out the schizophrenic nature of the organization…..

Same thing happened to Voros last year at the deadline. He was waived, cleared and never was demoted to HFD as I recall. They he cleared recall waivers.
If Lisin was waived, it’s because there was no interest in him in trade discussions. Someone might pick him up – but I consider that a long shot too

here’s my thought and maybe you think it is crazy. do you think it is possible they are waived today and could be part of a deal to a team that wouldnt want them on the nhl roster but would be free to dump them in the minors as soon as they got there?
by Michael Gleich on Mar 2, 2010 12:26 PM EST up reply actions
I can’t imagine the scrub we’d get in return, though.
by stonecoldcory on Mar 2, 2010 12:28 PM EST up reply actions
obviously i wasnt talking about in a straight up trade but part of package deal
by Michael Gleich on Mar 2, 2010 12:29 PM EST up reply actions
Maybe a prospect of some sort? Maybe a team that thinks Lisin could be worth something.
by stonecoldcory on Mar 2, 2010 12:31 PM EST up reply actions
Well – that’s not so crazy. I’m just trying to figure out what we’d get in return, and what team would even want to do that?
It would probably need to be a cap clearing move by the other team. This is where it gets really complex – and we’re sure to be blind-sided….

right im thinking of a scenario where we would presumably have to use voros or lisin as cap filler because otherwise we wouldnt be able to take on the new salary and stay under the cap.

Waiver confirmed by the only source I trust
@TSNBobMcKenzie
Today’s waivers: Brad Lukowich (Vcr), Ryan Oulahen (Det), Enver Lisin and Aaron Voros (NYR), Anders Eriksson (Phx), Chelios (Atl)..
I’m presuming that Chelios is recall waivers….

i thought that Atl signed Chelios today.

but if he didnt have an nhl contract, since i thought he had a minor league deal waiver would be unnecessary.
by Michael Gleich on Mar 2, 2010 12:32 PM EST up reply actions
I don’t have time (or desire) to look it up, but as I recall any player with NHL experience who’s over the #games limit to be free of the waiver requirements, must clear recall waivers if they sign an NHL contract.
If Jagr was released by the KHL and signed with an NHL team, he’d have to clear recall waivers.

Please see the discussion further up in the thread.
Until Lisin & Voros are demoted, they remain on the NHL Roster and are eligible to play. Waiver does not equal demotion – they are two separate “acts”.

well thats why i put them in for tonight..
but how long does a player stay on waivers until they are sent down?
LET'S GO RANGERS!!!
waivers is 24 hrs, send down is up to the team

Should this happen I feel bad for Lisin. I thought he was a good player..sort of a mix of Freddy Sjostrom and Zherdev…bit of hustle + natural talent (when he wanted to)…but he just never got a chance.
I doubt he’ll ever be a great player..but I also wouldn’t doubt if in a couple years he’s outproducing Dubi and/or Cally.
Real shame.
…Voros, who cares. Well..aside from Hank and Avery. Who would they hang out with?
Master of the squeegee
how do you figure that high a number? didnt they have approx 400K in cap space?
by Michael Gleich on Mar 2, 2010 12:44 PM EST up reply actions
i was figuring more like 3.5-4 mil if as db said they actually go away.
by Michael Gleich on Mar 2, 2010 12:46 PM EST up reply actions
uh huh…they can before this according to cap geek could take a 2 mil full season cap hit, so how does lisin and voros throw that number up to 6.5 mil?
by Michael Gleich on Mar 2, 2010 12:50 PM EST up reply actions
sorry, just not seeing the math, if you could help i would appreciate it.
by Michael Gleich on Mar 2, 2010 12:53 PM EST up reply actions
Capgeek shows – as of today, a prorated contract of ~$2mm being possible.
Since Lisin and Voros combine for an annual cap hit of less than $2mm, and have been on the roster for the entire season, there is clearly a “math challenged” element going on here. The max I can see is just under $4mm (closer to $3.8mm) annual.

maybe greg’s inside source says 6.5 mil cause we are dealing redden and gilroy for souray that saves 2.8 mil and gets us there, ;)

@NHLSourcesSay Source: “Flyers/Panthers close – Vokoun”, could this be the deal the Flyers are close to finalizing? Vokoun would have to waive NTC.
this could be a gamechanger imo.
I don’t really see a fit there, who would the flyers be able to send back they have no prospects, picks or cap space. They also said they won’t trade Carter.

Gagne and Briere have both been thrown around in rumors, either would help a trade. Could see Giroux in the deal also. They have pieces if need be.

that means they gave up something valuable or more than 2nd rounder.

my guess says unlikely, but is technically possible for him to get there in time.

TSNBobMcKenzie .NYI have traded defenceman Andy Sutton to Ottawa for a second round pick that previously belonged to the San Jose Sharks
the extra 2nd pays off.

I like Lisin, but its difficult to produce points when you get 8 minutes a game when you DO get to play, and you play with Voros/Brashear/Boyle types.
Voros, nice enough guy, but with Shelley and Prust, there is no need for him here now. Was a nice try by Sather to get him in the first place, but it just didn’t work out.
Better re-sign Shelley is all I have to say about that.
And if Sather trades Dubinsky, he’s a looney. I want Dubinsky HERE.

Good riddance to Voros, there is no need for him on this roster anymore. I wanted him out since November.
As for Lisin, well, I don’t think he got a fair chance here in NY.
But what really matters is that this clears 2 million dollars off of the payroll so look for another move going forward.
Oh yea, remember the article I worte in Januray about the two players that needed to be removed? Voros and Brashear both gone. Thank You Glen.

Now if we could get Sather to stop bringing these F’ing guys here in the god-damn first place, we’d have a shot to competing for something.
good point lol

Voros was needed up until we got Prust and Shelley, now was a good time to dump Voros(although I really liked him). agree with Lisin as well I was really looking forward to seeing him develop and become a better player.
