Rangers to wear Alternate Jersey in 2010-2011 season
The Rangers are one of 11 teams rumored to change or alter their sweaters for the 2010-2011 season.
Among the Rangers are Anaheim, Buffalo, Calgary, Columbus, Dallas, Nashville, the Islanders, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Toronto.
While there are no details at this time from Reebok as to what this third jersey may be, our friend Greg Caggiano may have some insight. From him, reportedly, the new jersey will have "NEW YORK" written diagonally across the front, similar to how the Rangers currently wear their sweaters.
For the full article, and information and speculation on the new sweaters for all 11 teams, check Icethetics.
Here is the part from the article about the Rangers' new jersey:
NEW ALTERNATE JERSEY Reebok verifies the news we've all been dying to hear. The Rangers will wear an alternate jersey next season. But will it be the Lady Liberty logo make her glorious return?
POSSIBLE RANGERS THIRD?
Reebok doesn't specify, however, Rangers blogger Greg Caggiano recently claimed to have the inside track on the new thirds. He says he's been told they'll be nearly identical to the current home jersey with NEW YORK replacing RANGERS across the front.
Caggiano doesn't specify a source so it could just be guessing. I think it would disappoint a lot of Rangers fans and Icethetics readers. The Rangers arguably had the best third jersey of the '90s with that Statue of Liberty logo emblazoned on the front.
Those navy blue sweaters were so popular that in 1998 the Rangers even added a white version for a short time. They were used up until 2007 when Reebok took over the league.
The Rangers previously wore a blue jersey with NEW YORK on the front from 1978 to 1987. The team's home and road sweaters will not change next season.
Now until Reebok confirms the design, we will keep speculating. But in my opinion, Lady Liberty all the way. If there is one great thing we should all take out of this, it is this fact: The Sabres will no longer wear their hideous "buffaslug" uniforms.

I hope the Liberty
I have the Liberty Navy blue Jersey from the 1st time, and I’m not as skinny as I was then LOL So I would love to buy a new one. the New York one looks too much like the original, bring back the Liberty !
Pretty lame
If they’re gonna hock an alternate jersey to pad their bottom line, at least be the slightest bit creative. I was never a fan of the navy liberty jerseys (the white liberty, on the other hand…), but that would be a much better choice. Who is even going to buy a nearly identical jersey for that kind of money?
Not that any of this matters, because we’re all going to stop buying Rangers stuff until they change the front office, right guys?
RIGHT???

Liberty Jersey = Greatest 3rd jersey of all time
I don’t care if it its the blue or the white or both, I want the Liberty Jersey back. If you remember the NYR had the New York jersey back in the 70s but it is too close to our current home jerseys. I’ve been waiting for a long ass time for the return of the liberty jersey so Reebok don’t dissapoint.
Navy Blue Liberty – 1995-96 – 1997-1998
White Liberty – 1998-1999
Navy Blue Liberty – 1999-2000 – 2006-2007

I will be upset if the New York is our Alternate, I say go with the Lady Liberty again and add all the cool little stripes and stuff that the reebok edge allows. look at florida, colorado, isles, etc. That would be sweet

No Lady Liberty please
Something new and creative. Let’s just jack the Pens baby blues like the Panthers did.
How is it new and creative
if we’re stealing something from other teams….?

The Panthers thought they were being creative. Can’t we do the same thing?

One of the best jerseys in all of sports, don't muck around with it too much
Navy Blue Lady Liberty, hell yes.
White Lady Liberty, hell yes.
Not sure what to think about ‘New York’ going down diagonal, I love that the Rangers go with vintage jerseys that ACTUALLY existed. And don’t make mock-vintage jerseys like some teams. Whatever it is, I hope it isn’t the following:

In Hank we trust.
One of my personal faves
I always used that for the Rangers in NHL 09.

I am a Jersey-born Ranger fan too
But you cannot deny the association of Lady Liberty with New York City. It is a powerful symbol and icon of America that has little to do with its true geography and much more to do with what it stands for. Which, as the name suggests, is liberty. In my opinion the Statue of Liberty is much more apart of New York’s identity than it is New Jersey’s… then again I’d argue it is better deemed part of America’s identity. To further confuse us all here is what wikipedia has to say about where Lady Liberty stands. (I had to check it out, I’m a history major).
“The built portions of Liberty Island (as well as 3 acres of nearby Ellis Island) are under the jurisdiction and are part of New York City. They are bounded completely by the municipal borders of Jersey City, New Jersey, which retains riparian rights to all its portions of the Hudson River and the Upper New York Bay. Historical circumstances have led to the unusual situation of Liberty Island being an exclave of one state, New York, located completely within another, New Jersey. The dominion of the island has variously been a subject of (or directly affected by) a land grant, a government directive, an interstate compact as well as several court cases and US Supreme Court decisions.”
In Hank we trust.
Glad we cleared that up.
If nothing else, I’d say many people would consider that portion of New Jersey closer to New York City than some other parts New York!
And lets not forget, the NEW YORK GIANTS/NEW YORK JETS are in Jersey, and the NEW JERSEY NETS are about to get shipped to Brooklyn…so there’s really no lines anymore.
Now if we could just get them to stop taking over the Jersey Shore…

Wow..I'm shocked to hear the appeal
for the Lady Liberty Jerseys. I’ll be honest, the NYR crest would make a nice jersey in the navy blue colors as well. I’d pay the money for that one, indeed.
